Pangkor Island

54 guesthouse is super cheap. The room is quite basic (a bed and... that's all)
There are common showers and WC that are quite OK (not smelly or dirty) and a common area with TV.
It's not located near a beach so you have to take a taxi to reach the other side of the island

Cheap guesthouse in Pangkor

Mr Tan is a genial, helpful and cheerful man. The guesthouse us one of three he runs and from what we've seen, they are all really well run.
No towels, so bring your own. But ac and WiFi in the rooms and a communal area with a TV if that's your bag.
Secure accommodation. The village is really nice. Authentic working fishing village, far better than staying in some sterile holiday camp and the beaches are a 5-10 minute scooter ride away.
The Island is rich in wildlife and we would stay here by preference again - or perhaps at his fish farm guesthouse.
Nice guy, nice guesthouse, nice village.

Quiet, clean and secure

54 Guesthouse is actually owned by Pangkor Guesthouse. You can hangout at that guesthouse as 54 is just rooms. We were all alone in our pretty spacious room with a private bathroom. Everything was clean. I would suggest not booking in advance because they have, like, four hostels on the island in all different places (but the fishing village is for sure the best). Just ask them to see their places (especially the one at their fish farm) . The couple is extremely sweet and helpful. They helped us rent a really nice and new scooter with helmets. They gave us plenty of good advice on where to eat. Do try the bakery next door! They also brought us to feed their HUGE fish. They are just a really down to earth couple and we really enjoyed spending time with them. 

Quiet place!

I loved that this place is the only guesthouse/hotel in Pangkor's traditional, genuine fishing village. It offers great food and the lovely half sleepy, half busy atmosphere everyone is seeking in Southeast Asia. 
All the other places to stay at seem to be mainly in Pangkor Town which is the touristy part of the island.
That said, one should remember that Pangkor is a small island (surrounded by scooter in about 45 mins).
54 Guesthouse is very clean and comfortable, the staff are super friendly and helpfull! They own a fishfarm and are happy to show it to you!
Sidenote: No matter what the locals on the ferry try to tell you, do get off the boat from Lumut at the first jetty.
