A picturesque and well decorated place with a strategic location in front of the Catemaco lagoon, the staff is super friendly and attentive, and the desserts, coffee and breakfasts are undoubtedly the freshest and best in the place.

If you want to taste a delicious coffee, grown in the Tuxtlas area, you should visit Café Oro de los Tuxtlas, delicious taste, aroma and acidity. It also has coffee bags for sale, with a variety for all tastes, ranging from the softest flavor to an exclusive espresso coffee and a strong flavor like Turkish coffee. They also have a caramel coffee, coffee with a unique drying process, which gives it a fruity flavor and sweetness to the drink.

The place is very nice and cozy, it is not a 5 star hotel but it seems to me that due to the costs they manage it is a very good option for adventurers and young people, they have a very rich cafe and their service is very attentive.

It's a lovely place to visit.

I love the concept of a restaurant, because the decor is original, and it's in the region. The breakfasts that are made are delicious, the quantity served is impressive, and the price is excellent. Don't stop ordering American coffee and/or the pot to accompany your breakfast, lunch or dinner; because the flavor is unmatched, there are also coffee bags to take home, buy it, they won't regret. They sell bottles of white and red californian steel, the latter is fine silver: Cabernet-Malbec with 13% alcohol, good body and ideal for matching with red meat or chorizo; a good ice cream; or a piece of fine cake.

Super rich, super service by Ceci, Juanita and Héctor.

The staff is very friendly and the location is very convenient, the breakfast service is very good, and the coffee is delicious, the rooms have a pleasant feel and are spacious and clean, but they lack mosquito nets, and it is important that the ventilators work properly, especially in summer.

Well, but it could be improved.

It's the hottest place I've ever been in Catemaco. There are no mosquito nets in the windows and there are a lot of mosquitoes coming in. You literally can't sleep. The sound of the bomb is horrible and you can hear it all night long. The ventilator didn't give you any air, a whole mess. The breakfast, as the price is good, but in terms of quality, is terrible. The orange juice had ants inside, no tomé was good!! The bread looked good, but it was from the day before. I ordered a plate of eggs and they came with pieces of cassava. Mosquitos!! Not only in the room, but also when breakfast. The cleaning and the service of the employees is horrible. The owner never shows up. There is no place to eat or drink in this place.

Terrible cafeteria and hotel.

The cafe and breakfast are very rich.The owner has a great work team but I would only be left with the option of the cafeteria because when talking to the people who stayed there they did not recommend it at all.I stayed in the other business.Casa Rosa and both suffer from the same problem, very noisy and there is no hot water or anyone to look after you.

A delicious coffee.

The blue room turned out to be a room with deteriorating beds, NO air conditioning. Its climate is a ventilator that doesn't do anything. If you have to share the room with the fauna of the place or at least that's what the people who work there say. There are mosquitoes, lizards, ants and spiders. They don't have hot water. And worst of all, if you want to cancel, they tell you that you won't return the money.

It's not a hotel, it's a hostel.

Casa del Café Oro de Los Tuxtlas may look good on its site and booking sites, but all should stay away.  It isn’t a B&B or hotel; it is a poorly run coffee shop that has two hot and mosquito filled rooms in the middle of the cafe. Customers shower and go to the toilet in the same bathroom that coffee shop customers’ use.

Here are the problems with this place:

1. None of the windows have screens, our room filled with mosquitos.
2. The room had weak fans and was very hot.
3. For the 2 days we were there the bathroom had no hand soap.
4. The 2nd day there was literally no staff present.
5. The booking website is misleading since it says there are private bathrooms. The bathroom is shared among room guests AND coffee shop patrons.

When we politely suggested improvements to a staff member we received an email from the owner blaming us for mosquitos and excess heat in the room!

The main reason we decided to stay here was because we were excited to try the coffee in what looked like a fun coffee shop. But the 2nd day there were no employees there until 12 PM, so we couldn't drink any coffee. Yet the whole point of staying there was to enjoy the coffee!

There is no way to make yourself some coffee because the kitchen door is locked, there isn’t even a place to have a glass of water.

It is important to point out that this is not primarily a hotel or B&B, this is a coffee grower and roaster that is trying to subsidize that business by renting two rooms in their coffee shop. This makes things feel awkward. 

When we came back from the beach the 1st day we saw that the building (coffee shop) was all closed up, including all the windows. The building was very hot and the room even hotter. The ceiling fan and floor fan did nothing to relieve the heat; we couldn’t stop sweating after our showers. 

We opened the windows and curtains to get some breeze, which was non-existent. But since there were no screens on the windows we were soon dealing with clouds of mosquitos biting us everywhere. You are also on the ground floor of a main street so for privacy you can’t have the curtains open.

With the combination of the very hot room and the buzz of mosquitos, we found it very hard to go to sleep.  The next day we were both covered all over in mosquito bites. This was not a few bites here and there; we were covered in painfully itchy bites all over our bodies.

There is one bathroom for use of all the room guests AND coffee shop customers. The booking website says the bathrooms are private, but the total opposite is true. The shared bathroom is dark and there was no evidence that it was even cleaned during our stay.

In the morning there was a rush to use bathroom because the 1 other room was full with four guests. The coffee shop was not open so at least we didn’t have to also compete with coffee customers. 

There are no mirrors in the room, so after you rush out of the bathroom you don't have anywhere to see yourself apply sunscreen, etc. At no point during our stay was there any hand soap in the bathroom. Even if they didn't have any on site, there is a grocery store behind the hotel so the owner could have gone to get some.

The owner said that the workers that clean the bathroom couldn't come because the road was closed but I don’t see how this would prevent her from cleaning it with her own two hands.

There are trees right outside the building are full of birds doing their bird business, which causes the area to smell faintly of urine.

We decided after the 2nd day (which we had already paid for) to check-out.  For roughly 5 U.S. dollars more we got a hotel room with a private bathroom and a balcony overlooking the plaza. The room had window screens and air conditioning. 

That same day the owner sent us a condescending email saying the tropics are hot and bodies of water produce mosquitos. This is true, but that is why she should put screens on her windows and buy a real fan.

Also, my boyfriend is actually born and raised in Veracruz and I am born and raised in Florida.  We are both very familiar with the tropics! In fact, on this trip we stayed several days with his family and they had screens and a great fan in the their house.

Here are five things that the owner can do right away to improve her business:

1. Add screens to all the windows. This is typical of the area.
2. Add functional fans to the rooms.
3. Keep hand soap in the bathroom.
4. Have staff around during the day to attend to the room guests and coffee shop guests.
5. Provide true information on the booking website stating the bathroom is shared among room guests AND coffee shop patrons.
