I have stayed many times at Posada El Rey Sol many times.  The service remains at the highest level.   The rooms are always clean.  I feel safe at the hotel.  The front desk staff are always friendly and helpful. We will continue to use the hotel on our stays in Ensenada.

The place is nice and clean. The staff is very friendly and helpful. You can obtain a fast pass at the lobby for the border crossing. 

The breakfast was good, the rooms are cozy and clean. I will be coming back again.

Leading a large group to an international destination is not an easy task. It takes a strong mind to handle all the logistics of a trip of this size. My biggest concern while planning this trip was the hotel, check in process, and being able to make the arrival as smooth as possible. And this is where Posada El Rey Sol came to shine!

I was communicating with the reservation manager Mr. J. Estrada ahead of time and he was an absolute pleasure to work with. He was able to not only gave us an incredible group rate for our stay, but he made the arrival a breeze. It took all of 2 minutes to check in 19 guests, which included handing them their keys. I highly recommend this hotel, first and foremost because of the friendliness of the staff. The location of the hotel was also a major factor in making that decision. I could literally see the big Mexico flag from my room. Walking distance to everywhere and the breakfast was very delicious. Clean and spacous rooms and overall a 10/10 experience for me and my group. I have already booked our next outing to Ensenada at El Rey Sol and looking forward to many more trips out to this place.

Short weekend stay with a large group.

We were a group of 7 Frenchmen at the Posada El Rey Sol for the wine and wine congress.We had a perfect week thanks to the central location and the Posada teams who did not help us to spend a good stay.We thank you for the good understanding of our needs at the hotel and in particular at the restaurant where I organize a cocktail for 45 people who had a great time.

Perfect service.

The entire motel has been remodeled and upgraded.  We had a wonderful time and the staff, as usual, was helpful and great to work with.   They also still have the fast pass for the border which is the best way to go.  We made it through in only 10 minutes on a Sunday morning.   Breakfast was a new addition as well and the food was great.  Parking is perfect because your car is not on the street and totally visible.  Tony is there too to wash it if you need to.  He is great.

Upgraded and very nice

The hotel is really well situated in the city centre of Ensenada, near bars, restaurants and shops. The rooms are OK and the manager is very kind and accomodating. The coffee machine available in the room is a very good idea. Unfortunately the pool was closed during my stay but it looks very fine!

A hidden gem located in the heart of downtown ensenada… this location is Within walking distance from restaurants and bars. The staff members are amazing and very helpful!!! This hotel also has a restaurant on site.

Hidden gem !!!

I paid twice to stay at this dump so as much as I dislike writing reviews best believe I feel the need to warn other travelers about this place.  We made a rookie mistake booking hotels.com since we haven’t traveled in over a year due to Covid we were a little out of practice.  Anyway, I get to the hotel and they say they don’t have a reservation for me.  No one wants to be stuck in Mexico with nowhere to stay so she made me one at the front desk.  That’s how I got charged twice because I did have a reservation with hotels.com as well under my bf’s name, which she never asked me and I had no idea why when the credit card is in my name and I made the reservation. We tried to resolve it at the hotel TWICE while we were there and several times afterward.  So the lessons here are a) don’t book through hotels.com because they are terrible and don’t care if you stay or don’t you pay anyway even if the card information is not consistent as long as it goes through they don’t care.  Which brings me to b) don’t stay here!  There are so many options in Ensenada and we go often so we know how quickly things can book up, that’s how we ended up here and paid twice for the same horrible room.  First, there is an iron burn on the filthy carpet which will leave the bottom of your socks black.  I say leave your shoes/sandals on inside.  The bathroom sink backs up so there is standing water but you wouldn’t dare touch the drain because it looks like it has NEVER been cleaned and has a full layer of hard water, calcium or whatever builds up it.  Gross.  The shower felt disgusting as well.  Poor water pressure and again, nasty build-up of scum. You almost feel less clean coming out of the shower.  This part I don’t even know how to explain but there is an alley BEHIND the room that has a door going out to it?!  What on earth could this be for???  It doesn’t go anywhere but it is so creepy.  Like having an attic crawl space in a hotel room that is already dirty and scary before you see this.  Well it looks like past guests designated it a smoking area because it’s somehow ventilated through the cracks in the walls.  I only assume this because there was a dirty, old, cut in half Bud Light can with cigarette butts in it along with some dead leaves from who knows where.  This stayed in there the whole time after housekeeping cleaned too so you can tell how thorough they were.  Enough about the dingy dirty room though.  The public space is literally a hazard.  The pool has a hose in it and the Jacuzzi is a demo zone!  I’m talking literally broken pieces and rocks, remains of material, nails, stones, all types of debris.  And somehow it is all still OPEN!  I know Mexico has no rules but this is extremely unsafe and can’t believe the hotel would open themselves up to the liability of having guests in this area.  The pool area is really small to begin with and with the pieces of blown up Jacuzzi everywhere you can’t even walk around it.  Such a mess.  So since my bf got sick (be careful of the adobada down there) I had to spend a lot of my time at this run down motel.  With the pool being a hard hat demo zone I tried the “sundeck” on the 3rd floor.  This furniture is filthy, but it is outside.  There were cigarette butts and beer bottles all over the ground, I hope from the night before, but I highly doubt it because the trash was overflowing with cans and bottles that looked like they have been there for quite some time.  This is barely coming out of Covid so it’s even more disgusting to think about how they don’t clean the public areas that they know are being used frequently.  And by clean I mean they don’t even take the trash out!  How do you let it pile up like that in the hot sun it's so gross!  I wish I had pictures now to show how truly terrible it was but at the time that was just too depressing to have on my camera roll and NOT at all how I wanted to remember my visit.  The photos on the site must be from years ago. 
The restaurant is good with free breakfast if you go by yourself and have plenty of time to hang out, which I did with my bf sick.  We tried to go the next day which was a Saturday and it was complete chaos.  They seated us after a 15 minute wait which was not bad at all considering how many large parties they had, but then we sat there for a full hour and nothing.  We got one cup of coffee and ordered food that never came out after 45 min or more.  Eggs and ham and oatmeal!  I know they were busy but it was just the most appropriate way to finish off this awful stay.  I would go back to the restaurant if time was of no concern, it’s well located and the staff is nice even if they are inefficient.  The hotel is close to everything too, but that is its only redeeming quality and there are so many better options in the area. There is a clean, new Holiday Inn Express across the street.  I hope at least one person takes the time to read this and it helps you have a much more enjoyable time in Ensenada at a different hotel.

Steer clear - it does NOT look like the photos

From our arrival their service has been very exceptional. Quick check in, clean room (every single day), any requests or questions fulfilled almost immediately. And most importantly feeling welcome and shown some sort of importance. This has been a problem at other tourist area hotels we've been to which seem to have some sort or contempt for their american guest. Well, NOT here. This place is great. Great location right in the tourist area of Ensenada, with a smart & final a block away. And the best part of our stay were the kind words and great advice/suggestions from Janeth at the front desk. This added much value to our stay here. We highly recommend this hotel to couples and families.
