Río Lagartos

We stayed one night in Rio Lagartos before our flamingo tour. This hotel was rated the best in town.

The good: the room was sparse, but clean. The balcony overlooking the water was spectacular.

The bad: After I made the reservation I had a few questions and emailed the hotel a few times. They never responded. I finally found their Facebook page and sent them a question through Facebook Messenger. They did reply to that. 

No one spoke English and check in was difficult. This was somewhat expected in rural Mexico, but would have nice to have them be more prepared for non-Spanish speaking customers.  There were three of us, but only two towels in the room. I used my translator app at the front desk in an attempt to get another towel. The young guy at the front desk seemed reluctant to get me a towel. After a few minutes of me pleading he left and came back with a clean, but stained, towel. When I got back to the room I noticed each bed had two pillows, one sheet and no headboard. I again went to the front desk to ask for a couple of pillows (to use as a headboard) and another sheet. I got the sheet, but apparently no pillows were available. This was kind of weird since the were many unoccupied rooms in the hotel. We spent the night banging our heads against the concrete walls. We didn't get much sleep. I can’t make any comments about breakfast, as we were not told anything about breakfast at check in.

Overall the hotel was fine and worked for what we needed. On the other hand, the front desk person ( who was a young man) left a lot to be desired.

OK Hotel, Staff Not Very Helpful

We stayed at the hotel for one night and took a tour with the hotel. We were very satisfied with the seriousness and attention of the staff, the tour was really pleasant, we saw many different animals, it was really a calming time. The hotel is comfortable with a beautiful view close to all points of interest!

Nice visit.

I liked the location with the view of the small harbour and near the restaurants. The terrace of the bedroom. The parking lot in the yard. I didn't like: the difficult stairs to get up with luggage but it's the price to pay for a nice view. The lack of soundproofing between the rooms that made us enjoy the TV program from the neighbor below. Breakfast reduced to its simplest expression.

In fact, the people in this small town seem to be very simple and kind. I knew that the Mexican side was very chaotic and would lose things and be robbed!  But when I got here it felt different but the people were friendly and you shared their lives and made good friends over the last few days but it was stolen at the end of the trip

It was very late on the first day of the town. We arrived at the scheduled hotel around 10 o'clock. The staff were waiting for us. When the staff we arrived were very enthusiastic, and the boss was very nice to book the next day's cruise itinerary with the angel under their introduction. The whole process was very happy. We booked the third day to go fishing in the morning. At eight o'clock which Angel's Dad went to sea and fish happily harvested some fish. we became friends
But When we checked out on the next day I counted my belongings and money, I found that the money in my wallet was $1,000 dollars less and my diamond bracelet of about .$3,000 Not recommended to stay here

Very nice family hotel to spend the night in Rio Lagartos, the staff is super kind and very welcoming, please do not hesitate to take Paco as your guide advised by the hotel we spent a great morning in the mangrove.

All right, all right.

It's a nice little hotel. It's not a big luxury. But it's a very good price ratio. It's on the beach with a very nice view. Breakfast is simple but cool. For the price we paid, it's just great. If you're a quick stop in the city, you can try this little hotel.

Very good price ratio

This place could be really nice, because location is great; central with beautiful water views! But the room just wasn’t clean or maintained well. It had residue in shower from dried products on walls and handle. The bathmat had not been cleaned. We were given two towels for three people. The faucet was loose and towel hook fell off of wall. Grimy walls. They advertise they can do breakfast early for those heading to early tour and they said that was impossible. (Just don’t advertise it then.) It’s not necessarily “bad” but just not being given any attention to basics. We prepaid for two nights and left after one.

Just not very nice

The room is spacious, clean, very well located, with a large balcony overlooking the mangrove and the flight of pink flamingos and pelicans out the window.

A great step in Rio Lagartos

We stayed one night to visit the area. The hotel is very well located opposite the dock and the mangrove. The view is very beautiful. The village is quite poor but the place is charming. We were overcrowded on one of the three rooms above the breakfast room. The room was comfortable but quite basic. You don't have to expect a high-performance wifi, the reception of the TV was bad and the housekeeping wasn't necessarily on top. We got a good reception. Breakfast was fine with coffee or plates, tea on the egg and fruit. The parking is free in front of the hotel.

Correct and well situated

This hotel is a bargain priced gem! Our room was very clean with firm but comfortable mattresses and pillows, a balcony with chairs and table looking out onto the water. The room also had good a/c and flat screen TV. There is a small parking lot just outside the lobby and 3 restaurants within a block
