Río Lagartos

We stayed two nights here, as part of a self-drive birding trip around the Yucatan.

The hotel occupies a good location, close to town and with great views overlooking the vast lagoon with lots of birds to see. 

Our room was spacious with clean and comfortable bedding, but it was a bit tired and grubby around the edges with rusty doors. The shower flow was adequate but the heat reduced quickly.

The poorest part of the stay was breakfast which consisted of some unappetising bread toasted on one side only, no butter (only jam or honey despite them knowing one of us was diabetic) and a bit of fruit e.g. a few slices of pineapple and one banana between the two of us. There was only just enough coffee for two small cups and it was painfully weak.

The card machine would not accept my credit card card which worked everywhere else (except one hand-help machine) during seven weeks in Mexico & Belize. 

Given the promising reviews, we were disappointed with our stay here.

Good location but tired room and poor breakfast disappointing

Great spot in Rio Lagartos!  Right on the water with a great view..  The owner is very nice and accommodating.  The room was basic, but clean and comfortable.  The best thing is that the proprietor’s nephews are guides that can take you out into the lagoons and mangroves to see the birds and wildlife.  They both speak English quite well and are very knowledgeable.  Highly recommended!!!

Great spot on the water!!!

Nice, small hotel. Great spot for taking a boat tour to see the wildlife of the lagoon with flamingos, crocodiles, etc. The hotel rooms are spacious, well equipped and clean. Friendly and hospitable owner

Clean and great location

We were traveling with the family in a rented car (me, my husband, and our adult son) in mid-October 2022 (very low season) but the manager refused to accept the payment per hour. Unfortunately, we had booked the hotel on Hotels.com before our trip. But the manager welcomed us when we arrived around 3:00 p.m. but then we were told that the hotel hotel coffee booking had not been settled. Hotels.com had said that the hotel would accept the payment per hour. However, the manager refused to accept the payment per hour. Unfortunately we did not find the hotel hotel in the middle of the day. But we finally found that we could not get a very small amount of cash from the hotel. But we were hoping that we could get a very small amount of money from the hotel. But we were hoping that we could get a very small amount of money from the hotel. But then we could not get a very large amount of money from the hotel. So we had to get a very small amount of money from the hotel, so we decided to go to the hotel.

It's a snoring and voyeur manager, air conditioning is broken, bad smells.

It's a little old, but nice and very quiet. Beautiful terrace overlooking the lagoon where we have a basic breakfast. The boss advises a captain for the boat tour but once the deal is over, he puts us on a boat with someone less qualified, so I don't recommend finding your tour by yourself.

It's a quiet, friendly little hotel, a family room with three beds.

Had a fantastic stay at this hotel, the owner was simply fantastic. We arrived in our hire car and drove straight to the shore and turned right knowing our hotel was somewhere in the awesome small town. Found the hotel immediately and right outside, easy. Rooms simple and nice, views are amazing, nice terraces.

We had no Rio Lagartos tour booked by the owner within minutes has his friend and tour guide arrive and we immediately booked a night tour and morning tour. (The night tour was amazing strongly recommend. His mate the tour guide gave us a great price so all good. Owner then recommended us a place to eat before our night tour, best place we ate all holiday, 200m from hotel on seafront. 

In the morning we were delivered breakfast which was simple, coffee, fruit banana, but all we wanted prior to our tour, after breakfast we chucked our stuff in our car and left for our tour, when we got back the owner caught us and wanted to know if we wanted a shower before we left for our journey back to Playa Del Carmen, we didn't inconvenience him but what a nice and lovely gesture. Cannot recommend enough.

A lot (I think all) businesses in Rio Lagartos don't take card, take plenty of cash, there is also no ATM so take cash, likely you'll travel via Tizimin so get cash out there.

Fantastic Location and Service

Modest and economically good, its fare includes a modest breakfast served in the room, the Sunrise suite with a view of the mall, a very comfortable two-bedroom suite and its own balcony.

We stayed at this hotel in the heart of Rio Lagartas very clean, very special host good breakfast, essential room, facing almost the lake of Rio Lagartas great

We had a terraced room with direct view of the lagoon. It was simple but perfectly suited to what we were looking for with a shower room and a toilet in a contigue. Bed king size very comfortable. Excellent breakfast served on the terrace of the room Very friendly owner who knows well the area Tour of 2h/3h possible in the lagoon and meeting with crocodiles, pelicans, flamingos...A not to be missed Only bemool the air conditioning during our passage did not work well. Simple and clean hotel as we like to meet on a trip(35€ about for two with small breakfast) A recommendation.

Very nice little family hotel

It's a nice little hotel in front of the lagoon, friendly staff, impeccable and comfortable room, parking is convenient on the street in front of the hotel, everything can be done on foot, breakfast buffet mode with cereal, fruit, toast.
