This is a charming family owned "old Mexico" hotel on the outskirts of San Blas.  First impression is the lovely lobby, manicured grounds and pool area.  The front desk and bell service is excellent.  We had a king suite, which was quite spacious, with lovely marble and wood decor.    The room was kept impeccably clean.  Unfortunately, the sofa, bedspread and drapes are old and tired - badly in need of updating, and  this took the room down from lovely to just ok.  Chef Betty, the chef of the hotel's restaurant El Delfin, is apparently famous in Mexico as a tv personality.   We ate in the restaurant several times, for breakfast, lunch and dinner.  We are foodies, and found it to be a bit hit and miss.  We had a one extraordinary entree (seafood relleno with tomatoes, ginger and saffron), several very nice ones, and a few disappointing ones (the seafood soup was a bit bland and the chocolate cake was dry!). The service was always impeccable.   The menu is small and the hours are short, so plan ahead.  The wine list has decent Mexican wines, and they make a great margarita.  Since the restaurant is priced much higher than anything else in San Blas, our expectations were high.  Overall, if returning to San Blas, we would stay here again.  I do hope they will update the fabric items to fit the otherwise wonderful atmosphere at Garza Canela.

Best service I’ve received at a hotel in years. Staff learned my name. Friendly and super attentive.  Food was outstanding. Accommodation was terrific. Highly recommended. Pool was a nice benefit. Excellent value. Safe. I will return soon.

World class comfort, service and food

The hotel is old, the beds, the sheets, the worn towels, it is clean, the area of the beautiful pool.The food in the amazing restaurant, MUY MALA, is only famous for chef Bety Vazquez.I think there is much to improve, the hotel is the same as it was 30 years ago when I first met it.

There is no fulfilment of expectations.

Worst service, Worst treatment of staff! Super rude, despotic, and horrible food! Don't go with the show's finesse! The food is mean and cheesy, and it's the most rude and pedantic person that exists!

There is no money to spend!

Excellent and picturesque hotel, serviced by its owner Chef Betty and her sisters, room with balcony, beautiful gardens, a pool, a chapel, delicious restaurant... well located to go to the pier of san Blas, the mangroves and beaches nearby.

The receptionist's treatment was very rude, she called me twice when she asked her a few questions from the hotel and she always answered me reluctantly. The rooms are okay but the price is very high for what they offer, the one I touched was old, the ventilator caught it and it seemed to be falling, and the air conditioning didn't have to regulate the temperature. The restaurant was the most disappointing, I expected something exquisite for the price and for being the restaurant of Chef Bety, but it wasn't, the men have the presentation of a colonial foundation and the voices sound vivid with flavor, the only rescue was the charged restaurant, and Doris loved the hotel because the price was very low, and if the hotel was very cheap, it was very cheap, and if the price was very reasonable, the village was very expensive, and the hotel was very expensive.

I had high expectations and was disappointed.

The only nice thing the hotel has is the lobby, our room full of urine, the beds with horrible beds, old sheets (it seems like they're about to break, the air conditioning is bad, it just has a temperature that they tell you to turn it off if you get cold).

There is no regression.

NO VOLVERIA NEVER, very bad experience, the lack of better treatment of its customers, are the owners and their mules, discouraged with their guests, the restaurant nada extraordinario y muy CARO, little sensitivity with its diners, definitely a change of staff.

Hotel well, management staff and restaurant very bad, not very simple, despotic, unkind.

It is a nice quiet hotel. Whta is worth is the restaurante, since is managed by one of the best Cheff in Mexico (Cheff Betty). I was on a business trip an stayed there, having a great sorprice whith the menu. Octopus with dried apple is a most try. The Ceviche is a classic. Give yourself time to enjoy thier food.

Una agradable sorpresa Pulpo

We spent several nights at this hotel as arranged by Mark Stackhouse who was leading us on a birdwatching trip. We were very happy with our experience. We wanted a king-size bed which meant an upgrade as the regular rooms were double beds only. It was worth it as we had a very large corner room with a large bath and closet. The weather was cool enough to leave the windows open but on a couple of weekend nights there was too much noise from the common areas for that.  The fan of the air conditioner stays on, which was useful for blocking that noise.  The hotel is on a quiet street and was generally quiet overall.
We ate at the restaurant several times and enjoyed it very much. Everything was very well made, some dishes were unique and creative, and the staff was attentive without being overbearing.  The drinks were well-made; we particularly liked having margaritas by the pool.  The waiters spoke English as did Josefina at the front desk. It is very well located, with an easy walk to the plaza.  We would definitely return to Hotel Garza Canela.
