We loved this place!  We had an entire apartment to ourselves, and the rooftop views are awesome.  Amine was very helpful, he met us at the bus station and walked us to the riad, which would have been quite hard to find otherwise.  Well located within the Medina, quiet and clean.  Great place for the money!  Would come back.
Be aware that many places in Morocco don’t take credit cards due to the high fees, so be prepared to pay cash.

Beautiful Riad, great service

Haughty reception on our arrival, dirty room, hygiene problem, by far the worst stay I've ever been given to spend in Morocco while I love this country where I've visited it many times, to discourage!

Disastrous stay

The Riad was lovely (it's the former home of a Jewish merchant) but unfortunately our room was on the fourth floor up several flights of narrow stairs.  The manager was very helpful in assisting with our luggage, but it was still quite a climb for those not used to stairs. The bathroom was quite small and the ceiling of the shower room was about 5 1/2 feet tall, so it's pretty challenging for someone tall.  However, the view of the sea was beautiful, and we very much enjoyed breakfast on the balcony the next morning. The Riad is very conveniently located next to the main store and there were plenty of restaurants to choose from.

Authentic Moroccan experience

After reading some reviews on this site, I decided to start booking the upper room (Josephine), despite what had been said. Well... I did well despite everything! Certainly, this room deserves it because there are 78 stairs up (yes yes, I counted!) which are very high so not necessarily for older people but the view is so beautiful up there! The bathroom is indeed very low (about 1.70 m.) but I stood up! and above all it is full of charm since it is an old hammam! Amina is nice, discreet listening. But we loved breakfast on the terrace, relatively close to the cupboard!

A very pleasant stay

We have two decorated rooms on the first floor, a very nice bathroom. The breakfast on the panoramic terrace is fabulous, the air is wide. Amine is very attentive. The location is ideal, just at the entrance to the Medina, away from a small door.

Exceptional

Accommodation on the 1st floor (1 adult 3 children), 2 beautiful clean rooms and a beautiful bathroom. It is very beautiful, Amine is very useful, ideal location at the entrance of the medina.

Sublime

I chose this place for the view of the sea, the central location, the panoramic terrace and above all the wonderful rooftop room with a beautiful large window opening on the horizon and its own private terrace. I loved this beautiful room bathed in light, I loved listening to the sound of the gulls and staying on our private terrace where we spent hours grooming. The bed was nice to wish for. The staff is very caring and kind. This was my heartbreaking during my trip to Morocco.

My heart sank as I entered the room. There were no signs of any care, the overall impression was one of wear. The double bed (2 singles pushed together) had worn springs in the mattress, which was damp - no comfort. The sky light slid back for entry onto a private roof terrace, which was difficult and cumbersome to open as it kept coming off of badly fitting runners. There were large holes around the frame, wouldn't take much effort or cost to fill. There were two dirty plastic white chairs on the roof terrace, one of which I later found was broken,when I went to sit on it and fell back. The toilet and shower was a few deep steps down from the room, the door was tiny and led into a space which required being bent to move in, the door frame being lower than the low ceiling resulted in whacking my head a few times before adjusting myself to the space. After a couple of middle of the night loo visits I created an alternative, for safety reasons. I asked for toilet paper replacement once, after which I didn't bother and provided my own. There appeared to be no real service other than breakfast time. Had we paid a much, much lower price then I could understand the lack of care but at the price being charged at this Riad I would suggest looking elsewhere, there are places close by which are run well, quite beautiful and much cheaper - enjoy!


Dissapointed stay at Riad de Mer

It is out of the question with a very suggestive view, but one must absolutely avoid the last room, which nevertheless seems to be the most beautiful and panoramic: too many stairs, very humid and no heating (summer it will be a hell), no privacy because on the same level of the terrace - in short, the hotels are at your house lorsu'il take the p'tit-j! - and SURTOUT! a bathroom from the room and with a very low ceiling, one must lean in to enter it, with a shower on the floor, without windows (the sink is in the sink, there is nothing), and it is not impossible to tell the customer about this situation and it is a trap and it is really impossible to give the customer an air and it is a trap:

When charm matches cheap (not necessarily good)

My boyfriend and I stayed for 3 nights at Riad de la Mer in Essaouria, located just perfect in the hotspot of the Medina, close to the shops and just a few minutes walk to the beach. Our room on the 4th floor with our private roof terrace was very cozy, light-flooded and lovely to sleep in! As there is a mosque tower nearby and the praying pretty loud, we woke up every morning at 5 o'clock.

Diane, who is managing the booking and also our pick up from Marrakech did answer and help very quickly - we were just wondering about the explanation why there would be spots and marks on the bedclothes and towels: She said in advance that it's because of the poor marrocan water quality but curiously we haven't found spots or anything comparable in the other Riads we stayed at in Essaouira and Marrakech .. The other thing we were disappointed about was the missing information about the low-ceilinged bathroom (height: 1,65m), in which my boyfriend had to sit for showering. 

The breakfast was delicious, fresh orange juice, pastry, pancakes, bread, best of marrocan coffee and jam - traditional marrocan breakfast served on the roof terrace.
There was no wifi connection on the 4th floor but a good one in the entrance hall.

Altogether I'd definitely recommend this Riad in Essaouira. Our room was beautiful but its not in a good position for elder and tall people (because of the bathroom), better choose a room on the lower located rooms.
