Me and my boyfriend stayed here in the July of 2017 for Awakenings Festival in Amsterdam. Firstly it was cheap and easy to locate and very central to the station, square and everything else so that was a positive. 

At first I was worried about sharing a bathroom but it was no hassle whatsoever was very spacious and clean as was the room we stayed in. 

For trips where’s you need a place to get ready and rest your head it is absolutely perfect. Which is what most people do on city breaks anyway what’s the point in spending all day/night in your room!! Basic, perfect location and clean, what more do you need on a budget?

The host was friendly and helpful and checking in and out was straightforward and easy. 

I don’t understand why there are complaints about the stairs when it is a traditional Amsterdam building which is stated and clear. For those complaining if you don’t like the original features then stay in a bloody hotel. I also thought the view from our window was lovely. The access to the roof was also an added bonus which boasted a lovely view. It was the perfect location for a pre drink and smoke. 

I enjoyed my stay here like I have stated it’s basic, clean and a perfect place to rest your head on a budget. Glad I ignored the bad reviews and booked to stay here :)

Ignore the bad reviews!

We booked a few months later before our arrival in July, they decided to cancel on us a few days before we arrrive. In high season too!  it made a really difficult task to find somewhere in our price range. I've read in the precious reviews they're prone to random cancellations. Will don be using again.

Rubbish

We recently booked here and was slightly worried about the reviews when we got there we found out we was on the top floor (slightly gutted as it was effort) but it was a genuine building in Amsterdam so no lift obvs, rooms where basic but clean exactly what we needed (didn't plan on spending much time in the rooms)
view from the terrace was lovely. 
Very central location perfect for sightseeing and bike rental shop right by the front door.
Mark was friendly and helpful so surprised with the comments about him :-/.

Cash only was not the best but again you are renting a room in Amsterdam you are not staying in a hotel.

We had an amazing time we would stay again but would go the gym and get used to stairs but I could crawl up them when drunk so no biggie. 


We had a ball

I booked a room here recently and had a booking reference but when I arrived there was nobody on reception or access to the hostel. Eventually I called them and I was told on the phone by a rude staff member my reservation had been cancelled without my knowledge. I was left stranded! 
DO NOT TRUST TULIPANA RESIDENCE WITH YOUR BOOKING!

Me and my partner are not complainers and have never complained about a hotel before but this was an experience I will never forget. The night before we were due to arrive, he texted us to let us know we have been updated to the 'deluxe' hotel, which is not true as the one we booked with was closer to the city centre and bigger. Sergio cancelled our booking on arrival to avoid tax, can only pay cash on arrival, we paid £300 then he told us that he would collect the money later in the holiday. He hadn't come on our last day and he texted my partner asking him to leave the money in the  room and the key downstairs which we did, only to come back to Scotland with an angry text stating that we hadn't left the money yet he claims he was there half an hour after we left to clean the room. Who could possibly go into the house, find the key and steal the money all in 30 minutes? Obviously mark or Sergio (the owners) has entered and stolen the money without the other ones knowledge and is claiming that we haven't left the money. Which we should never have done in the first place as the hotel was worth no where near as much. They are very sneaky people, be aware. They seem the type to enter your hotel whilst you are not there. can't stand up tall without head touching ceiling, had to share a bathroom plus it was downstairs, Rooms were not homely and made us not want to go back to the hotel, we had to laugh about it as we didn't want it to ruin our first experience in the Dam, more like a hostel, we booked a double bed room and got two singles and the beds kept separating. There was no mirror but a mirror in the hall? We couldn't access outside. We could hear our neighbours through the thin walls and their was very little privacy. If you want to enjoy your holiday, do not book here. Owner was hardly there. No clean towels and the bed never got changed once after 4 nights. Ew. They try to squeeze every penny out of you. Believe the reviews before you book this hell of an experience. Good riddance!!

Hell of an experience! Be aware

I had booked this room well in advance, the day before the owner wrote me that we had been transferred to another place (residence 85). We arrived and made steep staircase ramps and the owner didn't even ask if we needed help with the suitcases; he accompanied us to the room, very small and with shared bathroom.

On the day before we set out for our trip, we received a message from the owner Sergio that we had to be upgraded at the accommodation (if this was an upgrade, I don't want to know what the actual accommodation looked like). We were given the address of the new accommodation to which we were then to come. At first I found it totally impractical that you had to set a check-in time, so we were nightly very inflexible. At the accommodation location we were not always aware that it was a hotel/apartment/hostel. So we spoke to Sergio, who then came out of the house and heated us up.

What a disaster!

Although we made our reservation in Tulipana more than a month in advance, we stayed in Residence86, an alternative accommodation from the same owner, which was notified to us on the very day of our stay. The location and the internet are the only advantages of the establishment. It consists of two very small rooms and this is very disadvantageous as there are no common spaces beyond the single shared bathroom and a kitchen of intimate proportions integrated into the entrance (yes, the facilities are modern). In our case, the rooms were messy, sucky and tidy, the room was quite difficult to live in, the room was very convenient, the bathroom was a good way to avoid the street (we coincided with the bathroom, for example, where we ate wine, and there was a lot of room for the bathroom).

The location of this house is excellent, everything is very neat, the room is very clean and the owner of the house is super attentive, for those who really want to feel like living in a house in Amsterdam it's worth it, but this house is on the third floor and for that you have to climb many stairs, the bathroom is shared, but very clean.

Well, that's good.

It was a great trip through Amsterdam, super well-located residence, very attentive host, left the Netherlands game at the 2014 World Cup to welcome us, has a sensational panoramic view, next to famous neighborhoods like Red Light, restaurants next to the residence, bike rental on the front street, I'm sure I'll be back.
