Hi this place is very bad it it’s not worth 580 dollars for three Nights at all the shower is very bad it’s either to hot or to cold. It’s to small the hair dryer barely works and no view and the bed sheets keep falling off.This place is a motel.Please don’t come here.

I rarely felt treated worse. The room was so small that the shower water ended up on the bed because the door didn't close even for the slightest space. Stairs to get to the steep, narrow and very dangerous rooms. To get to the fourth floor was always a climb to the top. But above all the rudeness of the owner (or manager) is what left me down. 10 minutes After paying the guy comes to us in the room (with a fiatone) saying he wanted more money for the living room fee.

To be avoided like the plague!

During my trip to Amsterdam, I opted to stay at the Budget Hostel Sphinx for one night, paying 150€ for the accommodation. However, I must say that my experience at this hotel was far from pleasant. I have attached some pictures that clearly demonstrate the disappointing condition of the walls and furniture, which were notably dirty. Even the chair had holes, indicating a lack of proper maintenance.

I would rate the cleanliness of the room a mere 3 out of 10. The floor was gritty, and as I walked to the bathroom, I could feel sand underfoot. Although the bed sheets were clean, the overall state of the room left much to be desired. Neglected areas, such as the corner next to the bed, accumulated dirt, revealing a lack of attention to cleanliness.

Another drawback was the hotel staff's lack of proactive assistance. I had to wait until 15.00 to check into my room, which wasn't the most welcoming start to my stay. Additionally, the hotel building itself was quite small, and the staircase was tiny. This may pose a challenge for older guests or those with mobility issues, as reaching their rooms might be very difficult.

All things considered, I regret staying at Budget Hostel Sphinx and would advise others to explore alternative accommodation options in Amsterdam. A hotel of this standard is not worth the price, and I believe there are much better choices available in the city that would provide a more comfortable and enjoyable stay.


nightmare in Amsterdam

This is hotel is the worst one ever....Staff are terrible....front desk guys were worst and indifferent..they have no consideration...rooms are worst quality...heater is broken and beds have bugs in it...gloomy ambience...it is a mess in the middle of a messy location.and very noisy..the reason I book is the pictures that was provided witch does not look like the reality .fake pictures ..otherwise guys don't book this hotel at all...even no wifi .

stay away Worst hotel...bad experience...indifferent staff

We've been staying in this hotel for two days and the experience is bad. The ground floor semi-room, which is accessed by a steep, narrow and dangerous staircase, especially for the elderly and children, the dirty room, the bathroom without a door or at least a tent, the room and bed not repaired or cleaned, breakfast if you can call it, very poor and bad, unfortunately, having arrived on the first day of the year without booking, we're ready to adapt, fortunately our stay will be over in 3 days.

Hotel Spinks Amsterdam

Owner, Fung, was absolutely nice! He understood what I was requesting and was generous enough to accommodate my need. The rooms are tiny and walls are thin, yes, but his kindness and awesome customer service just makes everything better!

Location is great too! Walking distance from so many restaurants and shops. There’s even a supermarket at the corner. 1min way!

The owner is nice!!

First of all the location was fantastic, 10 min walk away from Rembrandt Square. The rumours about the steep stairs were true, may cause some issues if you're elderly or overweight. Didn't know what to expect after reading some of the negative reviews but the room was absolutely fine for 5 guys who didn't sleep much. I would recommend bringing earplugs if you want to get the head down for a few hours. Decor could have done with freshening up. The shower itself decided what temperature of water you got and the handle seemed ineffective. The window opened fully so you could climb out onto a makeshift balcony next to the fire escape for any smokers. Didn't encounter the threatening cleaner who was mentioned in previous review.

The Sphinx Hotel which we dubbed "The Cecil Hotel"

- Room on the fifth floor, very steep narrow staircase - room was about 3 square meters high, we couldn't even put our suitcases on the floor because there was no room for them - a tiny roof window = even if you open it up completely overnight, it doesn't cool down in the room, it was extremely overheated - dirty - bathroom was glued - the only advantage is the good location. We didn't expect much, just a place to sleep.

It's a disaster!

We were robbed by the hotel staff if they made each other.. no cameras.. no defense!! Be careful of the cleaning staff.. the rooms that are in the basement!! the walls are ruined.. the television in and above us were robbed of a lot of money.. we filed the complaint and well Thank you.

Little good has this hotel to offer. Our experience: The room was on the fifth floor by stairs that they had very little to spare. The room was a bed and a chair, literally, dimensions 3 x 3, plus that being on the last floor, the ceiling came over us. Clean, poor or zero. Even on the third day (of five) they went to change the towels and towels, but only they took them, no new ones because they didn't have them, when they came to request, the employee replied, I showered every day and my antecedent told me to get a towel, for two.
