Den Burg

Quiet location in the southwest.  The restaurant came first, then the 14 rooms some years later.   Simple, friendly, views across the meadows,  breakfast served in your room or (much nicer, weather permitting) on the terrace immediately in front of your room, good restaurant, bicycles for hire – the ever more popular ebikes  too if you ring in advance - (both walking and cycling to be recommended on Texel, horse riding looks good too).  The beach and nature reserve in the SW corner of the island is especially pretty for walking (drive or cycle there from the hotel).  Cycling around the island is a gentle half day. Walking around the island as a day trip is for enthusiasts only – start at 5 a.m. for your 60 km tour. 

In a Corona year there are even fewer non-Dutch tourists than usual (a few Germans dared to travel this July) but this has always been prime short break territory for Dutch tourists (our ex-neighbour Amsterdam dentists were not unique with their Texel weekend house) and is priced accordingly. 

Overall .... location is a real plus, value for money less so, but its uniqueness means I would recommend.

Rural island idyll

Expensive but great location. Breakfast was excellent and served to your room or outside as you wished. Room was very dated and needs an update. Old plain wooden boards for a ceiling is not nice to see in the morning. Shower has no door or screen so bathroom floor is soaking after one person use. No air in the room No fans in the ceiling and windows have condensation in them. You have to sleep with balcony door open all night The curtains have seen better days and so thin they keep out no light at all so wake up at 05.00 with sun in your eye balls here we come. The staff were friendly and helpful .Meals are expensive as is the whole island but tasty. Great view from our bedroom window. We had two dogs collies who hesitated going up the very steep stairs to the room as did we that was a draw back to the room. We had first floor corner room with French doors which opened to lovely farmer field view

Expensive but great location

Super nice hotel. Clean. Nice food. Great location and super warm staff. Definitely we will repeat our stay in this hotel. Close to center of Den Burg and in the middle of the nature. Good price for what was included. 


Family weekend

The hotel was very nice and charming, the rooms very clean, nice and cozy! We enjoyed our stay there a lot. the hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast delicious and the restaurant next by very good!!!

Wonderful fall holidays!!!

Nice quiet location. Restaurant and service very good. Dogs welcome. Breakfast in the room was very nice. Nice walks right at the door. Beach not far away. Everything is available for bicycle lovers.

Breakfast very good for the room

The rooms at De 14 Sterren are all individually decorated and in a block separate from the restaurant and reception.  Our room was on the ground floor, opening directly from the garden and with a seating area immediately by the door.  A very generous breakfast is brought to the room each morning and since we were lucky with the weather, we had glorious starts to the day eating breakfast outside, listening to the birds and deciding what to explore on Texel that day.  Lovely location a little outside the town, which was not a problem for us as we brought our bikes.  There are plenty to hire if you don't bring your own, and Texel is a great place to cycle.  Hotel staff made us feel very welcome.  The restaurant is also very good, and appeared very popular with locals as well as visitors.

Breakfast on our own terrace

Beautiful quiet rural setting next to national park forest and farm pastures. Very good breakfast delivered to our room and we especially enjoyed it on a sunny day on our patio. The room was not large but met our needs for our 2 night stay.

We spent two days at this lovely hotel and should have probably stayed for more. The service, food and atmosphere are fantastic. The rooms are well appointed and it's so relaxing to have the view of the fields. the restaurant has a great vibe and the food was excellent. It was great to have the ability to rent bikes on the premises and be so close to a wonderful beach and the forest land. I would highly recommend if you have a few days to spend. We will definitely come back. We loved having the breakfast just show up at our door.

Great place to relax, eat and enjoy the surroundings

We spent three delightful nights at this hotel on Texel. We had a 'corner room' which opened out to the field beside the hotel and another window looked into the woods. It was a beautiful room that was individually and creatively decorated as only the Dutch know how. The emphasis was on country comfort and atmosphere as opposed to slick contemporary design. It had a very clean and efficient bathroom. A large breakfast was brought to us on a tray and we could sit on our own wee terrace for an outdoor breakfast as we watched the cattle arrive to our corner of the filed for their morning drink of water. The restaurant is excellent and situated inside a restored old barn. The food and the service was lovely. you can also eat in the magical garden which has a small playground for children near by. We had absolutely no complaints. It is the perfect place for a truly relaxed break. It is an easy cycle to the local small town, Den Burg, which has a whole range of other eating establishments. As it is situated in the centre of the island (pretty much) it is a perfect place from which to explore the whole island by bicycle, which we did over two wonderful days. Bikes are available at the hotel. If you want a genuine and unpretentious experience then this is the place for you.

Blissful

We really enjoyed our time there. The whole team was super friendly and the hotel is right on the dunes and you can sleep super well. The food is very, very tasty and highly recommended.
