This hotel (and cafe) is pretty much unique! If you like time travel (who doesn't) this is the place for you. It feels like going back in time when you go in the hotel part, when you see the room and when you start to notice details (Which, I am told, are not collected items but genuine decor, furniture and fittings from the past).

Don't expect posh, because what you get is charming. You get this from the staff, the hotel, the garden and not least the cockerel who can't tell the time :)

Food was fairly simple but very good. Breakfast was great and such a nice change from the usual buffet.

We would definitely come here again.

Charming and Pleasant Overnight Stay

We stayed for two nights, got a lovely breakfast, the dinner was delicious and the Hotel had an original vintage look with an amazing Staff. Comftorting room with clean bathrooms. Everything you need for a comfortable stay.

Very charming

Charming old hotel room, but uncomfortable and worn bathroom. The bathroom wasn’t very clean, with hairs on the floor (not ours).
The breakfast was of poor quality with very limited selection of products and all of cheap supermarket quality. Reception wasn’t staffed most of the time.

Way overpriced 

Stayed in this charming hotel one night on a short trip to explore the southern part of Norway. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The hotel and room was very charming. It was like stepping a hundred and fifty years back in time. The restaurant had a good selection of beer. The burgers were very good. Recommend to book a room away from the road outside. 

Charming Hotel

Nice cosy hotel with charming old style. Share bath and toilet is something I never like, but didnt mind and this hotel. I was prepared before I came there. Nice clean room, nice staff. 

I work with lights and was missing older looking light bulbs,.... that would be a final touch. 

Lovely personal breakfast made to my taste. Lovely homemade coffee at the fireplace. Yum yum.

Travel back in time.

So the hotel has a whole story to share and you feel it as soon as you step into the big house. The hotel has kept its decoration of the time! but it still stays comfortable! We took a room with shared bathroom and toilet. Everything was nice. The hotel also makes coffee, where a good breakfast is served in the morning.

The hotel dates back to the late 19th century!

Stayed here a couple of nights en route Trondheim. Small comfortable room but main road traffic intrusive. Quaint period fixtures and fittings add to the experience. Staff very helpful which is always a big plus.

Period Piece!

Probably built sometimes in the 1880’s, but without any real charm, by a noisy road. We actually had to call the hotel on the phone to get hold of staff and check in and get our key. Some quirky rooms improved with seasoned furniture and upgraded en suite bathrooms. Breakfast is rock bottom, the cucumber was definitely from the day before, and selection poor, including a melting cheese, but homemade bread and sufficient coffee. Would I go back? Well, probably only for the back-yard coffee.

Quaint, not quiet

A very special hotel that will take you back in time! Everything taken care of in minute detail as in the 1920s. Great for staying a few nights or just to spend the afternoon in total relaxation sipping tea! Very friendly staff (even if the waitress only speaks German it is necessary to work a little hard to understand each other) the place is really fascinating, very clean and excellent food!

A place out of time!

If you like the special, you're right here. You feel like you're transported back to another time. The rooms are small but furnished with a lot of attention to detail. Everything goes very smoothly. In the evening there are concerts in the garden, which are usually visited by the locals. This can happen later. If you stay here, you should be aware that the music and the joyful driving can also be heard in the rooms. We felt very comfortable here. If we are safe again in Lyngdal, we will return to Paulsens Hotel.
