On arrival the hotel seemed a bit more modern than many other buildings nearby. As the season seems to not start until May, the local area was very quiet. We got to the hotel a little early for check-in. As the room had been booked by a friend (we were there for his wedding), we were unaware that reception did not open until 12.00 or 13.00 depending on the day. That being said, as soon as a staff member saw us, they opened the door and checked us in. Fortunately they did this with minimal interaction from us, as there was a significant language barrier here. Most staff speak no English it would seem, although one man did know a bit of English. This is to be expected really, as I think the area has predominantly domestic tourism. In hind sight, I could have tried German, but I think Russian would likely be reasonably well understood.

Despite the language barrier, we ordered lunch (helpfully the menu is translated into English, and has more choices than the website would have you believe). The pizza was nice enough, and was what seemed to be a very good price (worked out at about £4.50 for a large pizza).

Retiring to our room for a nap, we found the walls to be quite thin and thought heavier curtains or blinds may have helped keep the light out. There were a couple of things I was not a huge fan of: the bed was pushed up against the wall, so one of us had to crawl into bed from the foot of the bed; the TV was a 14 inch CRT TV (we didn't use it, but still...); no bedside table; sliding shower doors popped off the runners a couple of times; temperature control of the shower was an issue, with approximately 2 microns between arctic cold and surface-of-the-sun searing heat.

That evening we ate at the restaurant again, and the service and food were both very good, despite the language barrier. Over some very reasonably priced drinks, we made use of the pool table, which was fun.

The following day we had breakfast, which was the typical meat and cheese affair. The coffee resembled rocket fuel, the pot of tea had only 1 tea bag in it, and the honey was rock solid. Sadly the following day there was no honey, as this was the only part of breakfast I enjoyed (I've never got on board with eating cheese at 9am).

In the afternoon of day 2 it was my friend's wedding. The reception was held at the hotel, and featured a 9 course meal and plenty of vodka. The food was very good and the staff worked tirelessly to make sure everyone had a good time, which we did. Amazingly by breakfast the next day everything had been cleared away, which must have taken several hours. Our return flight on day 4 was very early, so we found out the checkout procedures before bed on day 3. As the front door would be locked, we had to exit through a fire exit and deposit our keys in a box by the side gate.

All in all, we had a great time, despite the language barrier, and would probably go back again.
