Located 10-15 minutes walk from the town centre and port, and near some attractive coastal scenery, the Residencia is a good value option for those needing a base in Velas from which to explore the island.  Although we arrived well before check-in time, we were given a friendly welcome which typified the service throughout our stay.  Our interior downstairs room was clean, simply but adequately furnished, relying on a fan rather than air-con. Buffet breakfast, taken upstairs, provided a reasonable range of fresh, cold items.  There's plentiful space for street parking.

Next door the understated Cafe Livramento, which is not part of the Residencia, provides home-cooked specials for two or more people, which are listed on a chalkboard and ordered a day in advance.  Portions are generous and the cooking high quality!

Friendly, good value option for short stay

The building is built on a complex of buildings on several floors. The rooms are essential, very clean and furnished in the style of the 1960s, wifi is present throughout the structure. The breakfast buffet is very scarce.

Very spartan location, according to the price which is low Bathroom in small room and cleaning ok. Minimum breakfast (bread, jam and coffee) 700 m from the center, so in a rather comfortable position.

It's a simple hotel ten minutes' walk from the centre of Velas. The room is modest but very clean, the bed is very small and our window looked out onto the outside corridor to get to the other accommodations. If you can ask for a room with a balcony. The positive notes are the very low price and the kindness and availability of Lydia and her taxi driver husband.

Without too much pretence

A pleasant residence in Velas with a room with a beautiful terrace and a sensational view of Pico, the highest mountain in Portugal! Extremely nice and helpful owner. An unforgettable beautiful island tour with the taxi driver owner. Muitissimo obrigado!

A pleasant stay

We stayed here for 4 nights. I have to say that the rooms that were assigned to us were clean but with a really unbearable stench of sewage and mold. Breakfast is scarce, only available strawberry jams. It's all cinderella and you get noticed for what you eat. As for the person who runs this place, saying that she's disliked, it's almost a compliment. Ps As for the prices... In general for the same money I found places much more dignified!

Good location for bathing areas, as well as access to the roads to get to know the rest of the island. Good cleanliness. Careful and friendly attendance. Fantastic view of the peak of Pico Island. Just pointing out that when you take a shower sometimes the water gets cold.

Good location

Residential near the port of Velas The painting where I stayed only one night was spacious had a view of the Peak with a pleasant atmosphere.

It's simple.

The room was spacious and complete, unparalleled from the balcony on the volcano of Pico overlooking the sea. Breakfast was abundant for all tastes. The owner was extremely kind: she allowed us to stay in the room a few hours longer than check-out, because of the delay in the ferry's departure time.

Maximum kindness and splendid view

Velas, and more generally Sao Jorge, is not a purely tourist area, so I imagine that no major investments have been made in the infrastructure. The residence is rather spacious with three stair ramps without elevator, other era furniture (but well kept) and uncomfortable pillows. The room was clean and large enough, however, with a nice balcony with sea view and Mount Pico, not bad. The bathroom obviously without bidet, and with a shower with tent, quite uncomfortable.
