Walkerbouts is such a special place. The locals fondly refer to it as the centre of the universe,  but in truth its like going home. From the time you step inside this gem of an Inn you are taken care of by Dave Walker himself, the staff and locals alike. There are no pretenses here, just good people, good food and good fishing. Thank you Walkerbouts for what can only be described as a wonderful experience from start to finish. See you soon.

Walkerbouts- centre of the universe

We stayed in Ash Cottage which is hosted by the Inn.
Cottage was perfectly acceptable, but the gas bottles for the heaters were not. One was completely empty. The other lasted less that 2 hours.
We requested more gas at the Inn & were told a flay NO.
Management at the Inn was not the best.
Very much felt that they thought they were doing us a big favour by allowing us to be there.
Food at the Inn was not good.
No choice. Only pizza on offer & that was not freshly made.
Couldn't recommend.

Give it a miss!

Although we stayed at another selfcatering facility in Rhodes during our visit to this exeptional beautiful part of South Africa, we asked around for a restaurant that serve Trout.  Trout fishing is one of the main attractions for the region.  We ended up at Walkerbouths Inn and met the legend Dave Walker himself.  Although Trout is not standard on their meal menus, he immidiately agreed to prepare Trout for Dinner.   
Dinner was indeed prepared in person by Dave while we relaced in the lounge with some good reads.  
A very special dish was prepared indeed.  This was without doubt the best Trout I ever had.  I ended my meal with a traditional Malva poeding which again was made superbly.  
If ever in Rhodes, a dinner at Walkerbouts Inn (if not staying there) is highly recommended.

Best Trout ever

We spent two nights here. There are lots of interesting things to do in Rhodes and surroundings but our aim was to do the 4x4 routes in the area and we had a magical time in these desolate beautiful mountains. Dave Walker has compiled a useful guide to Rhodes which is on sale in the convivial pub. The food is delicious and the kitchen took note of my husband’s Banting diet and made sure he was well satisfied.

Far from the ‘ madding’ crowd

Walkerbouts Inn is a beautiful, rustic hotel situated high in the village of Rhodes. It has old style charm, great food and a great pub called Thankshalot! The owner, Dave looks like a real life Father Christmas. The rooms were comfortable, the food was great (Pizza) and personal service all round. Will definitely recommend this hotel!

My family visited the place for one night and we we so impressed by quality service of Dave & Mari and our stay was so comfortable. Definitely going to visit the the place again in future

Chasing the snow

Food has been outstanding and very delicious. Location is very cozy, nice restaurant and a nice bar where one can mingle with locals and travelers. Mari is not only a very good chef who does also special dishes on demand, she is also a fantastic host and know very well how to prepare customers a nice stay. I will definitely come back.

The staff are super friendly. The food are out of this world. The environment is calm and relaxing just what a family need after a hectic year. Kids was overwhelmed with all the wild animals. Will definitely be going again

Great place

We were made to feel as though walkerbouts were doing us a favour by being there .The manageress sat scoffing her food and never acknowledged us until it was time for the bill to be paid . Pizza was very mediocre after waiting for an hour.

Shocking service

Although we had phoned days before arrival to book for 10 people the manager never even appeared once during our 2 hour stay. Unfortunately this sad management from the owners attitude permeated throughout the staff, who  were totally disinterested in our arrival.Although we were the only guests there, we quickly realized if we wanted to have lunch at all 
we had better get the orders in quickly as it was apparent service was not on the top of the list! We managed to revive the barman and even got a glimner of service after 20 minutes but the kitchen took more convincing. Two pizzas appeared and at the insistence of our friends we sstarted with  our mediocre pizzas. After 30 minutes one of our friends went to enquire what had happened to the rest of the order? Only
 apon threatening to cancel the other oizzaz appeared in quicker succession.  Such disappointment.
