We opted not to stay in San Juan de Ortega while walking the Camino de Santiago as we read the reviews of other travelers staying at the albergues there.  We opted for this hotel, not knowing how far off the beaten path it was. No matter, they offered to come get us.  We arrived in the late afternoon, had a shower in the not-too-clean-looking shower stall, and spent the rest of the time in the bar/restaurant area visiting with fellow pilgrims and watching locals enjoy Sunday dinner there.   When it was dinnertime we were given a nice pilgrim meal with wine, slept very well in the quietude, and awoke to a nice breakfast, included in the price.  It was nice actually, not having to go out and find our food, and just stumble down the hall to our beds.   We figured this was the equivalent of a truck stop motel in the States.  Functional and what we needed on the Camino.

Restful

It can be said that in the middle of nowhere appears this hotel, You can walk to the village and very close is Atapuerca. While the rooms are simple, the owner's treatment is unbeatable, as is the food from both the bar and the restaurant.

A hotel that could be a 3-star hotel.

We stayed here whilst walking the Camino, as the nearest alternative accommodation at St Juan de Ortega was full.

The hotel is some kilometres from St Juan, and so we called them from St Juan and a friendly young chap came and collected us.  That's where the friendliness stopped.  The older chap at reception and behind the bar was efficient but very grumpy.

I wouldn't not recommend staying here is walking the Camino, but if other closer accommodation is available I'd look at that first.

SLightly strange place

We just happened to be on our way to La Rioja.Outside the feel of a large but road restaurant; no further from reality, the dining tables are in the cafeteria, right at the entrance, separated by a few biombos from a very large, cold hallway.The food, possibly, is a daily menu of 10 Euros.Obviously for the price, the food is de battle.The truth is not so much the food, but the coldness of the establishment.

Rooms were comfortable but dated. Shower looked like it could do with a good clean. Overall staff were helpful except at dinner where the food was virtually thrown on the table. Would not race back here. 

Would not recommend a stay here

To begin with, it's just horrible.When you get there, you'll see that the hotel is neglected.The reception is all locked up in the bar where breakfast is also served.If you ask for water for breakfast, you'll get tap water with a very suspicious yellow color.The cleaning girls in their dirty shoes are the waitresses, and when you get inside the room, the paint will fall to pieces and as part of the party smell of moisture and tobacco.The price is cheap but it sells quite expensive.We'll never go back.

The hotel fell into pieces.

It's a hotel where we travel annually for work, and this year I was surprised by the little maintenance and the rooms weren't especially clean. The price isn't bad, and if you're going with a family you can have a quadruple room at the right price without expecting luxuries.

Very little maintenance.

I stayed here for one night on the Camino.
On the positive side :  the hotel arranged for us to be picked up San Juan de Ortega which is on the Camino, the hotel being about 5 km off the Camino.
Unfortunately, I found the hotel to be disappointing. It pretty much lacks any charm. It is situated on the main road from Logroño to Burgos and no village with any kind of amenities is within walking distance. The rooms are spacious but boring. The cleanliness of the rooms is acceptable, but the corridors are disgracefully neglected and a dirty sight. The hotel apparantly over time has managed to drop from 3 to 2 stars. Wifi only worked in the restaurant and lobby but not in the room. But it must be said that the staff were friendly. 
The restaurant is not the place you should go to if you want a good meal. 
I would not return.

Not a great place to stay

Although El Hotel is a 2-star hotel and I knew it wouldn't be luxurious, it was much worse than expected, dirty, no, sucky, the breakfast buffet consisted of being able to choose between 5 bollos, secos.

Dissatisfaction with the situation

Nice clean comfortable hotel, off the Camino, but the host will come and pick you up from San Juan de Ortega, and drop you off again in the morning (as long as you don't want to leave too early). Restaurant on site is good, and we had breakfast included, even at the early hour we requested. I would recommend this place, if you don't want to make a very early start.
