We arrived at 11pm in Madrid and decided not to stay in the hostel, despite having been paid for the two nights and having only been returned the second. We did not expect any luxury, but minimal hygiene conditions. The cleanliness shone by its absence. Already on the entrance stairs we found all kinds of garbage (including ear sticks), the reception walls were black with dirt and grease accumulated over the years without a handful of painting or cleaning. The pan was not very encouraging, and the guests were confirmed upon entering the room, whose receptionist door did not dare to be cleaned or opened in front of us (and we should not be surprised, we complained about the shame of the face of the hostess).

 Asqueroso!

It was impossible to sleep, if you could hear everything from the rooms it looked as if they were talking in your room, in the same hallways, even if they were sleeping together..... the unique location is in a central area.

Too much noise to sleep.

What started out a nice stay, went drastically wrong when the key would not work for the door leading to our room. By a stroke of providence a guest returning at 0015 let us in! 

Otherwise it would have been a complete disaster!

Locked out at 1145pm!

Dwarf rooms and even smaller bathrooms. If you hear the screams of the other rooms, and from 8am the screams of the cleaners. They knock at the door and scream for you to leave the room before it is placed in the reservation. At the reception if you are lucky you will find someone. For this price he does not sleep in Madrid in any hotel or place like this. The breakfast is a bit unusual and you have to go down to a street cafeteria where, yes, they are very friendly.

There is no volvo or drink.

I understand it is a budget hotel... at $88/night. Consequently, I accepted the fact that the room is small, the bathroom is also small.

But they could have installed space saving things like shelves and hanging cabinets to put our personal effects. There is no soapdish inside the shower. The showerhead is loose and you need to hold it to take a proper shower and rinse the soap off your body.

The door lock on the way to our room is quite tricky to open.

On the plus side, it is near to the major sights.

Could Stand Improvement

The best location. Strange reception, booking by Booking 2 nights having paid the first, the receptionist demanded the payment of the second before entering the room. Right room the small closet but had some good perches, bathroom too small. There was a lot of noise, and not the guests... but the cleaners, who are dedicated to pumping voices from end to end of the hall without showing the slightest respect for people who sleep on a Saturday at nine in the morning.

Hostel clean, to get out of the way.

Something horrible, I lost photos and jobs of a lifetime because of these people. They didn't want to take charge, they didn't cooperate at all and for a while they had the security cameras off.

I'm wearing a dress.

I stayed in this hostel for 3 days and it was pretty cool if you don't mind sleeping anywhere, so be careful because in this hostel they are friends of the outside world and don't take responsibility for what happens in the room.... don't take valuables... it's terrible, it's not recommended at all.

Cutre... attention, friends of today!

What a hole! Literally! The crappiest hotel I've ever stayed at! This rather hostel cost us almoat $100. Super dirty, worn out furniture, such a tiny bathroom that it's just impossible to turn around (I'm not exaggerating!), and the walls are so thin that you hear how people turn in bed behind the wall. Yu can even hear people talking several rooms away. This is really a hostel, not a hotel, and shouldn't cost more than maybe 30 bicks per noght at most. Crappy, dirty, overpriced depressing hole.

I’ve used Hostales & Pensiones in Madrid before and had a variable experience. Hostal Florida is one of the better ones, representing great value for money & a superb location for sightseeing. 

Some reviewers seem to compare this with hotels, which really isn’t a fair comparison considering price.

The room was very clean and quite basic; double bed, ensuite shower & toilet, small wardrobe. Yes, the Walls are a bit thin, so some noise from late night revellers, but in my experience that’s the nature of hostales. 

The location is great - 1 minute walk to the Tirso de Molina metro station and Plaza Tirso de Molina where there are great bars and restaurants offering good local food at a good price.  Other destinations (Puerta del Sol, Plaza Mayor, Palacio Real) are all within 10 minutes walk.

I’d definitely use it again if I just want a sightseeing base and don’t want to pay over the odds.
