Old and expensive as we like the elevator, it's not air-conditioned. We're not happy with anything. Bad colchon. Even though they were nice to us. Central area but very noisy. We understand that this hostel doesn't work with booking so that customers can express their opinion.

Old Caro reality of this hostel.

Went with my son Adam about 3 years ago. Loved this place. Typically Spanish in the centre of Madrid. Mother and son hosts were brilliant. Would definitely recommend.I would go back there anytime. Loved it.

Great place to stay

The exceptional staff are very attentive and friendly with the guests at all times. The room is very clean and cozy, the bed is quite comfortable. We will definitely repeat again.

We felt like we were home.

I have been to stay at Hospedaje Romero now six times and I would recommend for couples who want a long weekend away or business. The owners are very welcoming and the rooms are always clean and safe.

Pleasant family run accommodation

It wasn't what I expected but the service was pretty good, the room was regular, they could improve on many things, the prices weren't very much in line with what they offered but they also had their upside.

I wanted a place in Madrid that made us feel like home, the Hospedaje Romero exceeded our wishes! The building is old world elegant, complete with a wrought iron cage elevator located in the middle of the heart of Madrid. We walked everywhere. The owners, Charo and her son Raul could not have been more attentive and welcoming. Our room was as pictured, comfortable and clean. At one point in our trip, I left my wallet in Sevilla and I was comfortable just having it shipped while we were in Granada and held by Charo until we returned to Madrid for the last few days of our trip. We were able to leave our luggage several times during our trip and enjoy the city unencumbered with helpful guidance as to where to go. This experience was the perfect way to begin and end our 18 day journey into Spain. 

Excellent experience

For a bargain price you can stay in the best location in the city.  The Gran Via has easy access to the metro and bus systems.  Our hosts (mother and son) made sure we were comfortable.  My son and I stayed in the room in the picture.  It was the superior room with a mini fridge, closet, toilet, sink and shower.  It was worth the few extra dollars.  I had to leave Madrid at 5:00 AM to get to the airport.  My hosts got up before I left to turn on the lights for me so that I would not have to leave in the dark.  Great service!

Such nice innkeepers!

This is a pretty good bargain if you are good with staying in a simple, decent room.  A very large apartment has been converted to an inn, and it feels like you are staying in a room in someone's apartment.  The building has some great historic charm -- which means that, if you love things like an antique elevator, you will be charmed, but the property is OLD, though well maintained.  As others have commented, the landlady speaks no English but we communicated anyhow -- her son speaks English.  Rooms was quite modest but clean, quiet, comfortable, and had all the basics.  The location in central Madrid is awesome, and I was completely satisfied with this bargain.

Good value

We stayed here for a week and everything we wanted to visit in Madrid was within walking distance.  The Metro is nearby for places further afield e.g. getting to an from the airport or railway stations.  The owner and her son were very friendly and helpful, always wishing us a great day as we set off each morning.  The room was clean, compact and had everything we needed.  There were good Tapas bars nearby.  

In Central Madrid but quiet and reasonably priced.

The room was a little old, but it had its charm. Excellent care. Very good reception and very pleasant. Full confidence. Very good cleanliness. Very centralised, well situated although it is a sixth with elevator. Good quality-price.
