We were intrigued by the excellent reviews of the Hacienda Buen Vivir, but we were also skeptical of the high expectations that had been raised. This skepticism was resolved at the very first visit - better: we were totally enthusiastic. After our first night in this magnificent facility, we immediately extended our stay and enjoyed every moment: the magnificent facility with the best views, the cozy rooms, the pool, the outdoor kitchens, the terrace... but the best thing is the communicative atmosphere that allows us to make contact or maybe even make friends. Nothing, everything. The sadness of our farewell was eased only by the fact that we are already looking forward to seeing each other again.

We'll be back for sure!

It's a great place with the best view from the island's accommodation. The facilities are okay, not luxurious, but the pool is a big cinema. It's a beautiful garden with lots of plants and various retreats.

Now the Hacienda BuenVivir

The apartment is very nice, with individual space to be on the terrace.It also has a swimming pool for the 5 apartments overlooking the ocean!Everything very clean and Stephan todo un encanto y muy amable!!!!Sure to repeat.

Quiet location and views.

The new owners have made everything even more loving and green! The apartments are newly furnished, modern and cozy, the view is superb, very friendly and helpful all, a garden with lots of green and loose corners to chill out. Super price-performance ratio because the facility is run by a non-profit-oriented club! Comparable accommodation would cost twice as much! You are quickly on the beach and in Los Llanos, and also the perfect base for excursions and hikes. The pool looks great, but it was too cold for us in winter now;--) But the sunbeds are very convenient!

It's more beautiful than it was three years ago!

It is an ideal apartment complex for families and friends or couples. with a well-maintained community pool. with a grill rest area included for snorkeling with friends and family. well-located. quiet rest area. in a few minutes by car you can get almost anywhere. very cozy and recommended.

Super relaxed on La Palma.

The place is now known as Hacienda BuenVivir.
We stayed in a 1 BR appartment in January.  It has a nice view and grounds.
The place is an ok size, except for the tiny shower and bedroom.  It is poorly constructed with ugly (small panes and large frames that block the nice view) single pane windows, that don't keep out any noise or cold.  The entrance door has a 1cm gap under it, and the "hot" (warm) water that only trickles out when it finally does warm-up.

The only heating is a gas/propane space heater, that had trouble warming the place this time of year (it was often ~17C at night).

There is no sound insulation, so if the people upstairs made any sounds at all, then they were easily heard in the downstairs appartment.

Good view and grounds, but poor appartment

LOCATION:

The apartments are located at the top of a VERY steep hill.  We thought we might be able to walk down the 2km to the couple of restaurants on the main road at the bottom, but despite being good (mature) walkers, we couldn't face the thought of walking back up that hill, in the dark.  Taxis are very expensive as you have to pay the return cost, eg a taxi from Restaurant Las Norias at the bottom of the road cost 12 Euros.

On the plus side - the position offers fabulous views to the coast and the mountains and we have never experienced such peace and tranquillity - the only sounds being the insects and birds and the occasional passing car.

It's less than 5 minutes by car to Puerto Naos, which we visited most evenings for food.

ACCOMMODATION

We booked a 2 bedroom apartment which was VERY spacious.  Beds were comfortable and the kitchen had lots of utensils, although no oven or toaster - we had no problems cooking a couple of meals there during our 2 week stay.  It isn't 5 star accommodation and some of the furniture, décor is a little dated but it felt like a home from home and I understand that the apartments are being upgraded.  Everything was spotlessly clean.

On arrival we found water (which we did request), wine and basics in the kitchen - washing up liquid, t-towels etc.

A safe is provided in the double bedroom and the hairdryer was EXCELLENT!  

INFORMATION:

The information cards provided were in German - the lovely lady next door translated for us the following day - which was just as well as we had no idea that we weren't supposed to put paper down the toilets!

WIFI:  We had no problems with the WIFI in the apartment - overall I would say good connection,

DIRECTIONS:

The directions provided were mostly in German and Spanish - we took our SatNav and also printed directions from Google Maps.  The roads in La Palma are mostly very good with great signage and the SatNav worked fine until we were within 15 - 20 minutes of the property.  By this time we weren't sure where we were.  Arriving late at night you appreciate how dark this island is, and this made navigation very difficult.

At the point we were completely lost, we had to phone Stefan for directions and he "guided us" there over the phone.

Arriving at the property it is signed BUEN VIVIR and not La Hacienda as we expected.

Overall a lovely place to stay and explore the West coast of the island - so many great places to explore by car, we will definitely recommend.

Peace and tranquility on La Isla Bonita

It is now called hacienda El buen vivir, was bought in October 2015 by a group of beautiful Austrian German friends. It is preferable to have a car (45min from the airport) although there is a bus stop at 500m, a large denoveled access to the hacienda. The house is really like on the terraces, the terraces have 2 closets,1 to the east, the larger one to the west, Tilumbre has chairs and tables all 2 (new equipment) 1 umbrella on the west, magnificent mattress on the swimming pool and ocean. Very quiet location. There is a slightly hard access to the hot tub after a few minutes from the hot tub. It is quite easy to get back to the ferry to the Brequitos station,1 to the other, larger one to the west, with a large chairs and tables all the way to the beach.

A Refuge of Peace

It's a club-operated facility in a very nice location. Very quiet. Car is helpful, but there are also buses. Fine pool, nice apartments, but not new furniture, rather typical of the country. I'd love to, but next time we want a perfect sunset. The view is right for that.
