The owner is fantastic and gives you fantastic advice on where you can go to eat, the location is ideal if you need to disconnect for a weekend.

Escape the couple.

My wife and I have stayed at Landarte twice now and both times the experience was great.  The building and views are great.  Both rooms we stayed in were uniquely decorated in a style that was elegant and interesting.  The staff was welcoming and helpful.  We particularly enjoyed Mark's dry sense of humor.  Landarte is an easy walk (maybe 1 km) from town and is a good way to walk off too much food (and wine) after dinner in Zumaia.  If you are considering staying in Zumaia, you really should consider Landarte before it is gone!  Laura and Lee - Ashland, Oregon, USA.

A wonderful place to stay.

We have had a great stay at this establishment, I recommend without moderation, the breakfast is excellent, and above all, the price-quality ratio is excellent.

It's perfect.

A hotel with plenty of rooms in a natural setting but close to the city.The owner makes you feel at home.The room had all the amenities, was spacious and with incredible sea views.There is a basket of fruit, sweets and coffee in each room for an aperitif.The breakfast is great with eggs, toast, coffee, natural juice, bakery...The wifi goes great.

Rural hotel to disconnect

It's a nice rural hotel, very nice and very nice. Close to the village and far enough away to enjoy the tranquility. good wifi connection and no television. inconveniences are in the countryside, if it rains, you miss the entrance and the room and the owner gets very angry.

Very quiet.

LANDARTE is a popular inn in the Basque town of Zumaia, Spain, which has frequent repeat guests, who love the beauty and comfort of the inn, it’s natural setting, ocean views, fruit trees and walking paths. Each of its bedrooms is uniquely furnished and decorated, as are the several sitting and reading areas, and the dining room. Art and history books abound and vibrant oil paintings cover the walls. The owner, Marc, who speaks English, and his friendly staff, prepare a gorgeous breakfast spread, with fresh local fruits, breads which he bakes himself, coffee, eggs and bacon and much more, to appeal to his multi-national guests.  Since we had rented a car, Marc also recommended the nearby historical town of Gitaria, which has one of the top fish restaurants in the world. From Landarte, we also drove to the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao and, another day, to San Sebastian, a large seaside city, with a great old section and shopping. It’s easy to understand why guests return again and again to Landarte!

A TREASURE CHEST OF SURPRISES!

The house is a dream, several hundreds of years old and carefully renovated. Very tastefully furnished, with a lot of pieces of art. We had a big room, very clean. But you hear all from the neighbouring rooms. Good breakfast, good recommendation for a restaurant. 
However, we hardly ever had a worse welcome. We entered the house and were nearly sent back out the house. When showing the reservation (we booked in the morning of the same day), no apologise but we learned that we could not expect that he would be sitting the whole day in front of screen to follow the new reservations. The rest of the welcome was not very much better, a pity because the house is really a dream.

Beyond the comfort of the mattress and pillow, the enclave in which this site is located, the peace and quiet that one breathes and the wonderful breakfast, one of the best of my life in which even the bread is made by itself, you meet someone like Marc who, after a 20-kilometer walk, gives you two ice-cold beers that aren't for sale because he empathizes with you and knows that's what you need.

We stayed for a week in Landarte. We thought Mark was a great host, who looked after us really well and made us feel at home. The room was sparking clean and very nicely decorated with paintings from a local artist. We could walk to the beach and to the village whilst at the same time we enjoyed peace and quiet in the house and its surroundings. All in all we had a really wonderful stay and would love to come back. Highly recommended.

Wonderful stay

We really enjoyed our stay at Landarte. The old villa is located on a hill, with a beautiful view over the sea. The garden is well maintained and has some spots where you can read or relax. Generally, the area around Landarte is very peaceful. We also appreciated how clean our room was. The building itself is decorated nicely, with beautiful art, all handpicked by the owner. Breakfast is extensive (fresh fruit, different sorts of bread, eggs etc.).  We really liked that Mark gives you the feeling he’s personally attached to Landarte and is therefore sincerely hospitable and welcoming! 

We were traveling by train and therefore didn’t have a car. If you don’t mind walking a little bit uphill, this is no problem. It takes about 10/15 minutes to walk to the centre of Zumaia (which is perfectly fine after having enjoyed the local pintxos). There is a beach close by; the other beach is nicer with the Flirsch but is a bit further away (20 minutes walking or so). We can also recommend the various hikes in the surroundings of Landarte, especially the one from Deba back to Zumaia.

We would definitely recommend staying at Landarte!
