Amazing place, great guy! Well worth a visit, food is amazing clean and tidy hotel, worth a visit 100× over! Amazing beers from a Welsh and New Zealand background! Please visit to experience what we have!

Amazing 👏

So nice to see this hostelry coming to life again under new management and serving good food. Limited lunch menu but all freshly cooked and extremely reasonably priced.  We especially enjoyed the home made coleslaw and recommend the vegetable and humus burger. We'll definitely be back on our next visit to Aberaeron.

Just popped in for a pint and ended up having food . Between us we had 2 x welsh burgers and chips, chicken burger and chips, veggie burger and chips , they all came with the best coleslaw in mid wales , the quality of the burgers were spot on, fries were crispy on the outside and soft in the middle (lovely) . There’s a new owner who was very welcoming very friendly and accommodating . 
Wish we weren’t driving as we’d have stayed for longer for the rugby. 
A nice touch as there was a free raffle prize of a Fiji rugby shirt on offer . 
All 4 of us have given a 5 star rating and we’d recommend to anyone wanted a pint and some food or to watch some sports to come here . 

We will pop back next time we are here .

The new owners have not been there long and are doing a great job as there is a lot they want to do to make improvements in the future but for now, they are working very well with what they took on. Things may not be perfect yet but you get a very warm welcome by people who care and who do their best to help you out. 
A great venue if you are doing the Coastal Path and with a supermarket next door, you can get your supplies for the next part of your journey.
I did not have dinner there but the breakfast is amazing. Vegetarians and vegans are well catered for.

Came for drinks 2 days on the trot whilst staying in Aberaeron...as my husband loves Rock music and it was playing on Rock channel.
Awful welcome yesterday....very unfriendly by barmaid. Thought it would be better today as we were returning customers....unfortunately not.
Very very friendly to local people...not the case with visitors.It was my husbands Birthday today and not great to be greeted with such unfriendliness.

We were excited to spend a weekend in Aberaeron and decided to stay at the boutique Castle Hotel. When we entered the bar we were met with an unfriendly atmosphere. A rather grumpy woman asked what we wanted and we explained we had rooms booked. She walked off. We assumed we had to follow her to reception, but there is no reception, only the bar. After being asked for our details in a brusque manner, we were given our keys and told that our rooms were upstairs and that the door separating the bar from the stairwell would be locked so we would not be able to enter the bar! The rooms were clean and comfortable, but with ill-fitting draughty windows. There was no check out-process so just left our keys in our rooms. We were glad that we had not booked breakfast and were very pleased to leave. A disappointing stay that could have been easily rectified by a change in attitude and a more friendly professional approach.

Unfriendly and unwelcoming

We spent one night at the Castle Hotel last Friday. Althought we are regular day visitors to Aberaeron, we had not stopped overnight. We had a twin room [Catrin Star], which was roomy and comfortable. It had a lovely en-suite. Everything was very clean and the bed linen and towels were good quality. The Welsh cooked breakfast was excellent with very good products. The owners were friendly and the lady who cooked our breakfast was great company. Thankyou for our stay, much appreciated.

We booked  a double  ended up....in a twin room  not exactly  what we expected  for our  wedding  anniversary where told that was the only room left when we checked in ....(disappointed ) 
Aberaeron  is  amazing  and we have always  driven through  .

We arrived and not knowing the area I went in and asked if there was parking on site (the booking form said limited parking on-site) A lady was seated behind the bar and very abruptly told me there was no parking but parking at the harbour was free.
Fortunately,  my partner found a space outside. We booked in and were told it was room only. We had thought breakfast was included but we didn't argue and paid the extra. Total now over £150 for 1 night. We were told breakfast was served between 8am and 9.30am and did we know what time we wanted breakfast. We said 9am and were told we couldn't have that as there was a party of 6 in then. We negotiated 8.45 but the lady was clearly not happy. She showed us to the door that led to the rooms and informed us the bar shut at 10pm (in high season in August!) and we were give a code for the side door on the key fob. She was abrupt, unfriendly and unwelcoming.
On entering the room the first view was underwhelming- the website boasts of interior designed rooms- if I had paid an interior designer I would want my money back. Plain room with plain damaged furniture, no pictures, cushions or even curtains, only blinds. Then we noticed a dirty mug on the vanity unit. I took it to the bar and was given a clean one with no apology. The room was not clean- In particular the bathroom- the toilet seat did not fit, it was the wrong shape, leaving several inches of rim exposed. The shower was filthy with hairs and cobwebs. I will not describe the toilet brush and the filth around the rim of the toilet, in case the reader is eating! In the room the handle was falling off the dressing unit and the seat in front of it was unusable as the seat was coming away from the frame. Needless to say, I photographed all of these things.
As we went out we noticed no fewer than 3 fire doors propped opened with fire extinguishers- a blatant breach of Fire Safety regulations
The only reason this is a poor review rather than terrible is that the breakfast was very nice and the lady who served it friendly and polite,
On check out one of the breakfast lady asked if it our stay was OK- I said frankly it was not and showed her some of the photos- she was genuinely shocked at the dirt.
There was a gentleman in the bar and I asked him if he was the owner and he agreed he was. I showed him the photos. He agreed the bathroom was dirty but didn't seem all that bothered. He explained that everyone was having a hard time and the price was the going rate. I explained it wasn't about the price it was about value- cleanliness and friendliness do not cost money! He also said 'I expect you will write on social media and that he didn't care' (he should). I asked about the bar being closed so early in peak season and he said there wasn't the trade- we left The Cellar  around 10.30 and it was heaving!
Such a shame- If you are going to charge London prices that's fine but the least I expect is that it is clean!

Unfriendly and Very Poor Standards of Cleanliness

We stayed in the Castle Hotel to celebrate a few birthdays whilst down in West Wales. All staff were incredibly helpful and polite and explained the check in procedure and the use of the side door if we arrived back after they had shut for the night. 

We were then showed our rooms and we had booked 1 twin room, 1 king sized double and 1 double. All rooms were clean and lovely. Fans had been placed in the rooms as we visited during a heat wave which was a really thoughtful gesture. complimentary drinks were left on the table for us to have also. 

The bathrooms were nicely decorated and also clean with complimentary shampoo, conditioner and body wash. 

Breakfast was lovely and the lady in charge was keen to make sure that everything was OK. 

A fantastic stay and will definitely be back again.
