The best welcome you could wish for which made us keep going back unlike some of the other pubs in Aberdovey. We were a group of 8 and so would all sit in the snug together if no room in the bar area which was perfect. Great atmosphere, cosy, homely feel. We ate one evening - all food is upstairs. Lovely room all Christmassy. Food was excellent and much better than pub grub. No kids in the bar which is also great but kids are allowed in the snug I believe. Gary and Shona are fabulous hosts and deserve a special mention. Also the young staff should have a special thank you. We will go back and wouldn’t hesitate to spend the afternoon in their pub - home from home. Thank you both so much xx

Fabulous food and homely feel pub

Location was fantastic the room was fresh and very clean we stayed for two nights and could not fault it all the staff was lovely and helpful the restaurant food was excellent we will definitely be returning there was a fantastic choice of drinks and seating on the front to take in the stunning views

Peaceful 

My family had an evening meal at ‘the Brit’ two weeks ago. The food was just ok, but I was really shocked to find out that we had been charged £4 for tap water after a long hot day at the beach. My son plucked up the courage to explain to the waiter that we’d only had tap water ( he saw them pouring it) but the waiter told him the manager has told them they have to charge for it - £4!!! 
I believe that this is illegal in England and Wales as well as being a breach of their  license. However, having now read the other recent trip advisor reviews, it appears maximising profits far outweighs customer service at the Brit now🙁. My family and friends were all shocked when I told them and none of us will go to the Brittania again. Such a shame as it used to be so lovely🙁

Charged £4 for tap water!

Really unwelcoming to families, they have a nice upstairs restaurant looking out over the bay ,but won’t let anyone under 18 in there . We were shoved in a grotty little corner by the bar, with a filthy dog bowl of water under our table and the most annoying music  speaker right next to our table, I asked the barman to turn it off or down as we couldn’t talk over the din but the owner ordered him to turn it back on , she then reached over our table while we were eating with another dog bowl from outside dripping water over the table, it is a really unfriendly unpleasant place and very expensive for the basic food, wish I had obeyed my instincts and walked back out , give your custom to a place that appreciates it , this place certainly doesn’t, won’t ever go near it again.

Don’t bother it’s horrendous

Me and a few friends decided to treat ourselves to a nice afternoon lunch because from the outside the balcony looked lovely. However, from the inside I was greeted with a hostile member of staff who wasn’t welcoming, we decided to ignored it as we were very hungry. We looked at the menu and was bagels which sounded delicious. However, that’s all there was for £12. One bagel. No chips, no complimentary side dishes. Not only that but there was no smile when receiving the food. The questionable looking older lady decided to slam the plates on the table as if we just called her a looney (which wouldn’t be far off). We felt as if we were unwelcome. Much prefer the dovey or even the tides if you’re looking for just a drink.

Don’t visit

Have the new owners ever dealt with the public before? Not going into any detail as I hate to leave bad reviews but the owner and his wife need to go to charm school. Have been coming to Aberdyfi for years. Lady in restaurant completely dismissed us. Gary I think is the owner was so rude. Sorry but will give your establishment a miss. Silly man.

Sad but True.

How dare you tell me I should have chosen the Welsh steak when I am a vegetarian, my god you have an attitude, are you ever wrong? I would look after your customers instead of always having to defend yourself

Attitude appalling

Accommodating under pressure, the new owners are still updating the place. We stayed on a raucous Saturday, with Wales winning at rugby, so locals were vociferous. That’s great, but also exhausting for the landlords. 
The hosts were attentive and considerate, the room was fine and fairly quiet at the rear of the building. 
Great range of drinks in the bar.  they squeezed us into a busy restaurant for a lovely early evening meal before their rush. 
Great location - we will return for a midweek stay so we have more time.

On our last evening in Aberdovey we thought we'd try here.. went into bar and ordered drinks and told we could just go upstairs and get a table for a meal. When upstairs met with a poor attitude in the way we felt like we were trash asking for a table. Server was OK..  food was luke warm, at best, and over priced totally.. 9 bookings in the book for the night and we were placed in the darkest corner.  
When leaving we really did smell the exhaust from the kitchen and can agree with previous review on this matter.

Friday Meal..

The place was dirty and smelt of old cooking fat throughout the accommodation. The food extract was outside the bathroom window which left the room smelling of cooking. The bed was not made, clean towels supplied or tea/coffee replenished. Very poor for the money paid
