Such a special place. Great to get away from the hustle and bustle of life in the city to the lodge - so beautiful and peaceful. We were welcomed a package of goodies which were left for us - so thoughtful of the hosts who have clearly put so much work into making the lodge a real haven for people to escape to. It was an absolute pleasure to be one of the beneficiaries!

Peaceful coastal lodge

Two of us stayed in the larger Midwood Lodge cottage for a week in June 2023 and boy we picked well.  The weather was amazing sunshine all week and the cottage was really lovely too.  While it sleeps more we found it ideal for two too.  Its comfortable, spacious and the king size bed was also comfortable, a critical factor in our holiday cottage hire experience.  Apart from a slight initial challenge finding the cutlery drawer in the kitchen (a drawer within a drawer which we did not notice on arrival) the cottage has everything you could want. There was even a lovely welcome pack complete with homemade cake and other treats.   The cottage was well presented and clean.

The cottages (Midwood Cottage adjoins but does not intrude) are in a great location with easy access to the main roads yet are quiet within a large sheltered woodland garden so are not overlooked by other properties.  They are only a few yards to the river Aln and shops and bars are only a few minutes’ walk away.    There are great country and especially coastal walks from the door.   They have off street parking for more than one car each if needed, a rarity in Alnmouth.  

We did some nice coastal walks along some of the country’s finest beaches and yet relaxed in the peace and tranquility of the cottage, also catching up on some Netflix on the Smart TV.  We visited Howick Hall with its amazing gardens and tea room,  Bamburgh with its most photogenic castle and beaches, Seahouses (nice fish and chips) and Alnwick Castle (and town where we did some shopping).  Overall, it was a fabulous stay and we’d definitely go back again.

Also great for two

Alnmouth Cottages, as the name a suggests is a little cottage set in the stunning seaside village of Alnmouth in Northumberland. The cottage itself is set in its own grounds with a lovely garden with outdoor dining areas and tree house if you have little ones. There is ample off road parking at the cottage and lodge which is quite rare in Alnmouth being an old village dating back to the twelfth century and having narrow streets. On arrival at the cottage a lovely welcome message from the owner Christine awaits along with a welcome pack of milk, biscuits, homemade cake and a couple bottles of something special (prosecco and local ale). Fresh flowers are also placed which is just a beautiful touch giving the feeling of being home. The cottage is well stocked with all the pots pans and utensils needed for a stay and a supply of washing things for the dishwasher and washing machine available along with tea towels and really fluffy bath towels. Not all cottages provide these things but Alnmouth Cottages do. The bed in the cottage is a super large queen size much bigger than a king or double and is incredibly comfortable as are the sofa and chair in the lounge. A really comfortable stay in a beautifully decorated home from home. We’ve stayed a number of times here and have recommended to friends who have also stayed and been incredibly impressed. 
The cottage and lodge as said sit in the beautiful village of Alnmouth which has it’s own stunning beach in an area of outstanding natural beauty. The beach has it’s own parking at a very reasonable rate but to be fair is only a short 5 minute walk from the cottage. The beach is incredibly accessible with no steep steps or slopes to get on. Alnmouth has many short or longer walk routes available and the cottage has booklets and information detailing these. Alnmouth has a number of pubs, cafes and restaurants where food from good old fish and chips or stone baked Pizza, to more a la carte food can be purchased. The village has a post office / mini market and a delicatessen. It has a lovely gift shop too and boasts the oldest 9-hole golf course in Britain. We love to sit outside the club house, in the sunshine, with a drink and watch the golfers tee off. 
From the cottage there are many attractions to be enjoyed including the nearby Amble which has a wonderful fish and chip shop where my favourite battered haggis is also served. You can also buy Amble rock here which is something we always do as seaside rock is a must to enjoy. Amble has some very fine Ice Cream Parlors too. Howick Hall is just a short drive from the cottage. It’s is the home of Early Grey tea and this is served in the tea shop there along with other drinks, lunches and home-made cakes. Their fruit scones with homemade jam and clotted cream are a real treat. In the grounds Howick has extensive woodland that has been planted with shrubs and plants from all over the world. There is a formal garden to the back of the house and a sensory garden built with Autism in mind near the front. All the grounds are well kept and maps are provided with markers in the grounds that highlight the way. A walk down to the beach is also accessible from the grounds although we have never tried it. Our favourite walk however has to be the walk from Seahouses (which is just a short drive from Alnmouth) to Bamburgh. We usually park the car in Bamburgh then catch the service bus to Seahouses, spend a little time there before walking back to Bamburgh castle along the beach. It’s a beautiful stretch of beach and although getting off through the sand dunes near the castle is a tiny challenge at the end of a walk it is worth it. Bamburgh itself also has some lovely treats in store. Obviously the incredibly impressive castle but also some lovely little tea shops and pubs for a well-earned drink and a bite to eat. Also, the butcher’s shop is well worth a visit and Bamburgh Bangers (sausages) are just yummy. Our favourite place to visit in Northumberland though has to be a trip into Alnwick. Just a few minutes drive from the cottage, it is home to Alnwick Castle and Gardens. The Gardens are just beautiful and so well thought out. We have visited at several different times of year and there is always something in flower and of interest. Of course, the Grand Cascade is incredibly impressive as you first enter the garden but they also have other fountains off to the right where children …and adults I must admit, love to play. The rose gardens are beautiful and just near these is a garden gate made of metal and glass which I have photographed many times. I LOVE it. The gardens has a café area with the usual light lunches, drinks cakes and cream teas. It has a gift shop and garden centre selling many of the plants found in the garden and also has a crazy golf course. In fact, as a player of crazy golf whenever one can be found, I would say this is my favourite course to play on. Very well kept and lots of fun. A walk into Alnwick itself will find a number of shops and an occasional market but our favourite treats are to be found at The Chocolate Spa chocolate shop and Lilburns Bar Restaurant where they serve some absolutely beautiful food. Every single meal you see come out of the kitchen is stunning in presentation. Real works of art. All incredibly reasonable in price too. 
So, in short, I would say, do something special for yourself today and get a stay in Alnmouth Cottages Northumberland booked. You really won’t regret it. 


Our favourite holiday cottage home from home

We have stayed at the Lodge several times now over the past  few years with both family and friends and have never been disappointed. The Lodge and adjoining Cottage are in a superb position to explore Alnmouth itself and there is space for parking in the driveway outside which is a great boon as the village is usually busy. 
Inside, the Lodge is spacious and comfortable with everything you need for modern living. This is essential for us as we prize our creature comforts. 
The beds are comfortable, plenty of fluffy towels are provided and the kitchen is well equipped. 
Outside there is a choice of garden furniture to pick a sunny spot to sit in, a lovely big garden and a tree house - although I didn't explore it myself.
It's splendid to sit in the garden listening to the birds and if you retire quietly to the conservatory you can watch a wide range of them visit the garden. 
We loved watching the greenfinches that were nesting in the hedge.
There is always a lovely welcome pack with a superb home-baked cake and Christine is always helpful on the few occasions we have had any questions. 
All in all this is one of our favourite holiday cottages, visiting always feels like coming home and we highly recommend it.  

Great holiday cottage

We booked both Midwood Lodge & Midwood Cottage for 3 nights at the late May Bank Holiday Weekend for our family, who joined us for my Husbands Special Birthday as we were already staying elsewhere in Alnmouth. Can highly recomend booking these interconnecting properties they were just perfect for our families needs, plenty of room, well equipped, childrens outdoor play equipment galore, could not want for anything.  The lovely welcome cards from Christine with wine, beer, biscuits ect was warmly received. Thank you for a wonderful stay and the weather was perfect also, we were able to bring our own portable Barbeque for a family meal, plenty of parking too. P.S.Christine thanks for the Birthday Card & chocolates a lovely thought.

Christmas Break 2022

Great welcome for the weekend as usual. Our friends first time in Alnmouth and they were most impressed by the accommodation. Very cosy and nice to have the wood burner after arriving at various times. Excellent first night with a meal after not seeing each other for a while. Weather was cold all weekend but spent a couple of days walking along the beach to various places. Think they will all be back. Thanks again Christine.

Excellent as usual.

This was 4th visit to Midwood Lodge. The house is absolutely perfect for us - really spacious and comfy with a really well equipped kitchen. The location is great - just a couple of minutes from all the pubs and shops in Alnmouth. There are loads of little touches which make the house even better - cake, prosecco, ale. The host is really helpful and responds very quickly to emails and queries. We will definitely be back ASAP!

Perfect house in Alnmouth

The cottage is very comfortable, clean and in a great position with essential parking. We love the area and this is the best accommodation we’ve had and why we keep coming back. Everything seems to have been well thought through with some great little touches which are very welcoming. Christine keeps in touch after booking and it all works like clockwork. We’ve already booked to return and bringing some friends along.

Efficient and friendly contact made it easy to find and great parking. Excellent welcome gifts and super accommodation which was very clean. We wanted for nothing and were very comfortable over the whole weekend. Lots of nice touches around the lodge too. The garden looks really attractive although we didn’t spend much time in it as we were so busy.
