Balmedie

My husband and I visited the Cock and Bull Balmedie for his 60th Birthday. Accommodation was amazing, comfortable and warm. All requests for our arrival were granted. Staff bent over backwards to please. The food and service was brilliant. Very homely and a lovely atmosphere. Breakfast menu is up market and was included in our accommodations. Thank you we will definitely return. 5 stats from us.

Short Break

I ordered fish pie which had no fish - just prawns and rubbery kalamari. I mentioned to the waitress that the dish was incorrectly described as “fish pie”. It should have been called a seafood pie which I would not have ordered if I had known there was no fish in it! She apologised but no discount was offered - I thought they could have at least given us a free cup of tea or coffee. Not impressed at all and won’t go back. 

Lunch

Met friends for long overdue lunch in these strange days. We had great selection for adults and plenty on kids menu. Great Yorkshire puddings and tasty sticky toffee. Was busy but safe. Staff very good. 

Sunday lunch - top marks 

Stayed one night in the two bedroom apartment which was quirky and well equipped. Just watch out if you’re tall! Great coastal views and very clean ( vital just now more than ever) and cosy. It’s very handy for golf and the restaurant in the pub is great with a varied menu for dinner and breakfast. Staff were very pleasant and helpful.  Great value too - would definitely recommend if you’re in the area. 

Clean and convenient

Stayed for 3 nights whilst exploring Aberdeenshire. Had an issue with feeling the mattered springs in first room and the staff were nothing but excellent (just hope they changed it). New room was clean and bright, bathroom and shower was a good size and clean. Breakfast choices were good and generous, just perhaps could do with more healthy/fruit options. 
Overall staff were excellent - would recommend.

A lovely weekend away with my girlfriend Roseanne staying in the Ythan apartment at the Cock and bull. Absolutely spotless, really nice decor and brilliant cooking facilities. There is 2 bedrooms, a living area, and a separate kitchen, it was exactly what we wanted. The restaurant down stairs is very unique and was definitely worth the visit, so good that we went back for dinner again on our second night, the staff were amazing and attentive, the food was delicious and presented beautifully. We went in for breakfast both mornings, we had the big breakfast which was up there with the best we have ever had, my girlfriend had asked the staff the night before if they have grapefruit, then when we came in the next morning they had ordered it especially for her. We will 100% be back to the cock and bull in the near future.

I just wanted to write and say what a lovely lunch we had today. After a good walk with our two dogs on Balmedie beach we called in on the off chance for a table in the bar with the dogs. We were made to feel very welcome and offered a table by the fire. They have a great menu for vegans which is always very welcome and a full menu for my husband. The staff could not of been better with the service all running around looking after every table in all three restaurants. I would like to give a special mention to Ethan and Lewis for taking our orders and being very nice to us and the dogs. Thank you to everyone at the pub we will be back x

Lovely lunch with great welcoming staff.

Came out to the cock and bull especially for my daughter’s birthday - came with friends and family. Lovely setting and the lounge area is perfect. Unfortunately the service was mediocre - so slow - staff were pleasant but just not attentive. I had to go to the bar twice to ask for service, and there was about 4/5 staff hanging around. Our main meal took an hour and a half to arrive. We weren’t in a rush which was just as well. The food was ok - nowhere near as good as previous visits - my pate was a bit tasteless and slimy, and the beef dish was tender and tasty but dry (a jus or something would have made it awesome) and it wasn’t easy getting it down! Won’t rush back. 

Disappointing 

Stayed for a night. Room nice & en-suite shower massive! Dog friendly accommodation & pub in bar area. Dinner was good - breakfast ok. The nearest beach at Balmedie is ABSOLUTELY fabulous!!!! Unfortunately the boiler not working for hot water shower although was quickly rectified. Also a tip for owner - your outside area could do with a tidy especially for those walking through to the annexe.
