I have used this on a number of occasions, finding it more than acceptable.
However March 2024 is the first time I have been able to have a proper meal since the covid fiasco.
Very few places offer rare and well done roast beef.

I cannot stress how delicious the food is here.
The change of decor, and bar changes is inspiring, and the staff are quiet, and competent and I if I praise this place any further, I may find myself unable to book for Sunday lunch! It will packed out!

Highly Rated, faultless.

Not a great experience from start to finish.
When we arrived we were told we’d booked the wrong night and were actually a day early.
‘Ooops sorry’ we said, but no problem as the room was available anyway so they switched our booking over.
When I got the Wi-Fi working in the room I found the booking details and we had booked the correct night so it must have been the hotels error, but all sorted and no harm done so we didn’t mention it.

We then had dinner in the restaurant and it was just terrible. To start we both had rarebit. It was a cold solid lump of untoasted bread with a thin cheese topping. Pretty bland and we didn’t enjoy it.

For the main I had gnocchi and it was just bizarre. When it arrived I stared at it for a while trying to work out if I had the right order. There were about 6-8 small brown things that looked like American tater tots mixed with a load of new potatoes cut into quarters. I could have lived with that if the potatoes weren’t almost raw - not al dente - it was like warm, raw potatoes. I mentioned it to the waitress and she asked if I’d like something instead of the potato but I couldn’t think what - in hindsight maybe some gnocci to supplement the almost invisible pieces in there - assuming that was the gnocci.  I don’t know if they’d run out and just filled up the plate with potato as it wasn’t listed on the dish. It was pretty awful. 

My partner had the celeriac steak and his was pretty unenjoyable too. Lots of strong, slightly bitter flavors that just didn’t go together.

Worst meal out we can remember having and we’re not fussy eaters in any shape or form

Not a great experience

Just had an evening meal in the restaurant. I had the Pork Belly and it was amazing, my husband had the ox cheek and was equally impressed.The atmosphere was so relaxed,  the log burner was on next to us. What a find!! We will definitely be back. Thoroughly recommend.

Fantastic meal

I was tempted to try the new a la carte menu having seen a recent positive review online. Special occasion for me so I wanted to mark it with a good meal in a pleasant atmosphere with my owld dog Max. I was delighted with every aspect of my evening. The meal-stone bass, black rice, cavallo nero, clams (I think?) and the squid ink tuille (a revelation!) was superb, the staff (chef Mark and gals Clara and Verity) were so friendly and hospitable, nothing was too much bother for any of them. I came home feeling very pleased that my little celebration was made such a great experience thanks to all at the Teesdale Hotel xxR

The hotel is in a lovely place in the village but its rooms are quite dated. Having said that the one we had was clean and comfortable.

We booked a table for 8pm to dine at the hotel but we're very disappointed with the attitude of the chef/cook! We sat down and were talking when the first waitress came to take our order we said we weren't quite ready my partner went to visit the toilet and she was back again, I apologised said he wouldn't be long. The chef then came out moaning that we should have ordered within 15 minutes of sitting down, not a pleasant attitude and we felt rushed we told her we would just be a minute she moaned that the kitchen was shutting soon so we said well why allow a table to be booked. She stopped off and we seen her in the bar when we went through. Well now we know why she was in a hurry!
Left a bitter taste in our mouths.

Weekend stay

Absolutely fantastic, as simple as that. The staff, each and every one, were excellent. So friendly and welcoming. Dinner and breakfast were generous and tasty. Yes there is the odd loose door handle and paint chip but don't let those wee things put you off. £ for £ you won't get better.

Excellent value and staff

Reminded me of the Victorian style hotels of my youth. The staircase has had the carpet removed as had a section of the upper hallway to save money? Quaint old door handles and locks - the aunt from the 'Bewitched' series would have a field day (she collected doorknobs). No lampshades in our small room.  Slept well, clean and had all the essentials. We had a meal that was good and the selection of beers was fine. The staff were exceptional and brekfast was a treat, just enough food, well cooked and very tasty. The lady who served us was a true credit to the hotel, polite, attentive, considerate, etc. To top it all she has climbed all of Scotland's Munro's. Prices were good and reflect the standards of the decor. 

Great Location, Good Food, Excellent Staff but Very Rough Around the Edges

The room was very tired & desperately In  need of updating!
There was a damp musty smell which was awful. In several places on the walls & ceiling there was a problem with damp & water damage while there was mould in the bathroom. 
The shower head was so dirty we couldn't use it! The bath was chipped while the hand basin had odd taps & a broken plug.
The smoke alarm was hanging by a few wires. 
The bed & pillows were long past there sell by date!
This room should not be available for people to book we had a very disappointing stay!

Faulty Towers

Position is great with plenty of car parking.  Staff are welcoming and friendly.  Our room 14 needed lots of updating and repair, door latch to bathroom not there even though a notice asked for the door to be shut to the bathroom to avoid the steam setting off the fire alarm

Saying all this the breakfasts were good and evening meals quite good.  A pity we were refused a table on one evening as they were full, not when we looked in they weren’t. Only other place open was the chippy opposite.
Good stop for a couple of nights but not much longer.

Needs updating 

Everything was superb. Room spacious, clean and a great long bath, we love to bathe after a long walk and this one was tremendous, loads of hot water and perfect for my tall husband. We had dinner bed and breakfast deal and we thought we'd get standard pub food, I am a fussy food teacher and I loved the meals. Monkfish and scallops to start so good, mains cooked beautifully and high quality. Desserts excellent, flavoured profiteroles and chocolate pudding. Wine list high quality and service excellent. Breakfast was also superb. We walked from the hotel up into the hills and the scenery is stunning. We will be back.
