Went to use the swimming pool today, after everyone active Scarborough was fully booked and flower of may was closed we thought we’d give the bay a go. We went as a family of four, 2 adults, a 3 year old and a 10 week baby. When we arrived the reception staff took payment without informing us the toddler pool was closed. No family changing area so made it difficult getting ready. Changing area looked very dated but seemed clean enough. Went out into the pool and realised we had made a mistake. Small pool closed, big pool too deep and too cold mixed with everyone wanting lane style swimming (I know that’s not really there fault) flooring all cracked that had wet floor signs round it made life very hard work we were out after 20 mins and £14 lighter. Went to complain to reception staff but they weren’t on the desk. It was our first visit and will probably be our last.

Terrible swimming visit!!

I booked a superior beach chalet for the weekend. The reception staff were friendly and we found the chalet easily. It was dark when we arrived, it would have been helpful if an outside light was left on on the chalet because we could not find the door, lock or light switches easily. The railway sleeper outside on the drive were also very slippery when wet or icy. When walking round the park I also discovered some railway slerpers were rotten and potentially dangerous.

The provisions in the chalet were limited, compared to other cottages holidays. There was no toilet roll (1 would have been nice) towels or baking tray. The kichen equipment was rubbish, cooking anything would have been difficult. I called guest services, to ask about towels, to be informed Haven do not supply towels. As I had not booked Haven I have no idea what they do, or why this was relevant. If I had of been aware towels were not provided I would have packed some. Better information on what is and is not provided before arrival would be very helpful. Especially for essential like towels. I checked the website before leaving home and it was not clear. I think they do it so they can charge unprepared guests to hire towels. 

On the plus side the chalet had WiFi, something we were not expecting. It also had an XBox, books and games. I now understand that each chalet varies considerably because they are privately owned, so if we booked again we may get something very different. I wanted to book a 2 bed with a double and a twin, but it was not clear which apartments had twin beds and which once had bunk beds. 

I have 2 dogs and they love to explore and The Bay was perfect for them. It was great walking them around the site and down to the beach. The location was perfect for us. When you leave the park to go to the beach we had to dodge the dog poo  it was everywhere. The bottom part of the path to the beach is steep and very uneven. Good sturdy shoes are recommended. 

We did not eat in the pub because reviews on here were not great, but it was nice inside for a drink. The pub is also dog friendly.  

I would book the park again, it's a really nice location, very clean and tidy and the accomadation was spotless and very comfortable. But next time I will pack towels!

Nice......... but no towels!

Booked with Hoseasons but this is actually an Away Resort, we rented a comfort cottage for a family birthday weekend.  It was ok but a few annoying niggles like no towels or bath plug (no help either or anyone to report it to). The pool is in desperate  need of a refurb and no other activities were on despite Hoseasons website promising a world of fun.. also no WIFI!! Luckily we took games,be warned!

Basic stay - could do a lot better

In short: a lovely lodge but not quite what we booked! 
Long version: having stayed at the Bay many times previously in a comfort cottage, we decided to book an indulgent meadow lodge grande as a treat for this trip. The website (Away resorts) showed we would get early check-in, fizz, a crackle log and dog packs for our furry friends; and seemed a lovely post-Christmas treat. I noticed, prior to our stay, that the grading of accommodation and resultant web pages have changed. Upon arrival, our lodge was ready early and beautifully presented. However, there was no sign of any dog pack, crackle log, fizz or even bedside lamps/low lighting anywhere in the lodge. The only master bedroom lightswitch was more than 2 metres from the bed and the second bedroom also lacked bedside lamps. Whilst this may seem a minor omission, it’s actually unsafe to let out a property without any ability to switch off lighting from nearby the bed. 
I asked at reception about the fizz, dog packs and potential for bedside lamps and was told that I must have misread the original booking page (I didn’t and have since spotted that other reviewers have said the same) regarding fizz and crackle logs. I was also told that Away resorts aren’t responsible for what is in the lodges as they let obo owners - despite the booking being made directly with Away resorts - and that most people don’t have bedside lamps these days.  Really? In unfamiliar surroundings? And with no chance of reaching the only light switch? Further, the light sensors in both bathrooms turn off after a very short time (seconds) and take much longer - despite much arm flapping - to switch back on. There is no way (that I can find) to override this auto cut out which made my exit from the bath extremely interesting and unsafe! However, the dog pack (yep, just one despite paying for two dogs to holiday with us) is impressive and a real step up from the previous ones and was delivered on day 2 of our stay by a lovely lady! We have already booked our next stay but, probably needless to say, will be staying in a comfort cottage - all of which (so far) have had bedside lighting, proper light switches for the bathrooms and do not boast (or charge for) fizz and crackle logs!

Great….but

Just arrived home after 3 nights in a meadow lodge. We absolutely loved it so clean ! Had an issue with frozen pipes but came out within 15 minutes and sorted the problem ! 
Area is lovely we had snow and the kids still managed to get out and play ! Beach close by which will be lovely in summer and a little park on the site.
Would highly recommend for a little break with kids !

Fab time highly recommend

The superior beach house was lovely. Bright and airy with lovely furnishings. There was 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, lots of hanging space and the kitchen was well equipped. There was also a dog goodie bag left for our dog which is a lovely touch.
We were going to book the summer but none of the outside areas on any properties looked like they were enclosed, so as the rules state dogs must always be on a lead, we wouldn’t be able to leave the patio doors open or sit outside without the dog being held on her lead, which seemed quite odd. 

Lovely place, would recommend

Just returned from a 3 night stay in a 2 bedroom comfort cottage. Having stayed in the area many times it made a nice change being in a house rather than a caravan and to have a bath.

Doggy guest was spoiled with a goody bag which contained a bag of treats, ball on rope toy, a collapsible water bowl and a blanket...very impressed with this!

Had a lovely meal at the onsite pub and also enjoyed a stroll along the beach to Filey and back. There is a steep slope at the end but it is a breeze compared to the hill at Reighton Sands as it's more gradual until the last bit.

My only niggles were....some items lacking in the kitchen...no spatula, only 2 side plates, only a couple of teaspoons. Only minor but they could do with running an inventory of items that are available. Also the blind in the kitchen was thick of dirt...could have done with a bit of a wipe down.

Would definitely come back, such a great place to chill out and not as crazy as the Haven & Parkdean sites



Comfort Cottage

A break is supposed to leave you refreshed. We came back NEEDING a break.
The bed creaked so badly every time we moved that I could not stand it and slept for 3 nights draped over a 2-seater sofa.
It was as we were leaving that we investigated and found the main support beam snapped through, with a useless repair attempted.
Also, one of the bed slats was snapped and hanging down.
The smoke alarms in both the bedroom and the lounge had been removed, leaving just the frames.
Ducktape had been used to stop the shower screen from leaking all over the floor. It failed.
The lounge wall had an area that had been stained.
The toilet brush & holder should have come with a hazard warning it was covered in so much fecal matter.
The dog was happy at the poor hygiene, as she found a toy left by another dog in the apartment.
Reception gave us a half-hearted sorry.
After this, we will not be booking the week-long Bude break in July we had planned.

No sleep. Broken bed. Poor hygiene

Clean good value Apartment. 
Not enough mugs, dishwasher went  on after every meal.
Enjoyed a lovely walk along the beach  into Filey .
So peaceful and quiet, eventhough we were on the main area and ground floor. 

Good Value January Break

Lovely area, beautiful walk down to the beach but the holiday was let down by the lack of cleanliness in the lodge. We booked a dog friendly lodge, it was expensive but we expected that being the week between Christmas and New Year. 

We paid £35 for the dog, (even if our little dog doesn't even shed hair) but that's fine, we are ok with that. What I am not ok with though was the fact that when we arrived, the dining room chairs and the sofa were covered in white dog hair. I was pretty disgusted with this, we have a dog that does not shed hair, we are paying £35 to bring him with us and I then had to clean up someone else's dogs hair! 

I found the vacuum cleaner and couldn't believe how clogged up it was with dog hair. I literally had to clean the vacuum cleaner out first, before I could vacuum the dog hair. I ended up vacuuming the whole lodge and I took a photo of the bin, once I'd emptied the contents of the vacuum cleaner in to it! This is not how I was expecting the first evening of our holiday to go!

The dining room table had wine stains on it and the microwave door, which was obviously a touch screen, was covered in fingerprints where it had not even been wiped clean. I took a photo of this too! 

The bed didn't have a mattress protector on it so there was just a sheet over the mattress and the mattress was filthy. Luckily we had been staying with friends over Christmas so we had our own duvet in the car. I put our duvet on top of the sheet so that there was a layer between us and the mattress. All in all a very disappointing start to the holiday. 

I told the lady on reception about how disgusting the lack of cleaning was and she apologised and took details but I have not heard anything more from anyone at The Bay, Filey. I have never made a complaint like this before and would not expect a refund but I would have expected at least the offer of the money back that we paid to bring our non-shedding dog when I'd had to clean up after someone else's. 

This was our second holiday at The Bay, Filey but we would not be returning again.
