This is a truly wonderful place  - for able adults!!!!! Whilst claiming wheelchair friendly, I found that it was very UNFRIENDLY, the disabled room is ok with all the necessary needs but is situated the furthest away from reception and up a slope.  The main body of the building moving from reception to function rooms is not possible due to 5 stone steps making access to theses areas involving a trip round the OUTSIDE of the buildings, sheepish tarmac roads which are on a gradient, no real signage as to where to push the wheelchair.  
Generally this is fabulous place, very comfortable surroundings but something needs to done to address the disabled part of the package. Perhaps it would be a good idea to test the system using a wheelchair. 
To me , the disabled room should have been set in the end rooms of the stone paved passage past the kitchen and toilets, allowing FLAT ACCESS from an accessible road. This would allow easy disabled access for wheelchairs. Note also as far as I could see there are NO disabled toilets , my wife severely struggled last Sunday when a visit to the toilet was needed, but too far and far too far away from the disabled toilet in our room.
But as a  venue for able bodied folk I would wholeheartedly recommend the place.

Wedding venue

First impression very nice. Nice clean room then you start seeing the cracks, Stained ceiling, No hot water, Door lock not working, then you get down to the flies yuck. Stayed 2 nights, day 1 at breakfast you are constantly swatting flies away from you plate or your head and don't get me started on the ceiling curtain whivh is used for the weddings because that contained dead flies, I was attending a wedding the following day so informed the staff only to be told yeah we know it will be sorted (with a shrug of the shoulders). Day of wedding were the flies sorted no don't be silly the staff are too lazy. Informed staff again and was told well we had to open the door (what type of excuse is this) and told any complaint talk to Laura, oh guess what she wasn't around. The evening was a shambles, no organisation, staff close the bar when food being served because these staff are used for everythinf the cleaners, bar staff, reception, cooks etc so.not trained in any particular thing. Overworked so cant be bothered. Oh take cash to because you can't add a tab to the room. Also if you're the bride and groom don't expect a room on the night of tour wedding because that's not included in the price (very unusual wedding package). It I was getting married I definitely wouldn't book here. Following day oh guess what no hot water again and more flies on your breakfast. Definitely won't be staying here again !!
Oh another thing to remember you can't book in until 2pm and don't bother asking for an earlier check in because that's a big no no so on the say of the wedding the father of the groom had to hang around a cafe all morning until check in of 2pm but wait for it the wedding started at 2pm, did they care about thay ummm no they didn't "check in is still 2pm" we always want out big day to be special but this place doesn't really do that the chair covers and table clothes look old and dated and just thrown together. Bit of a disappointment.

2 good members of staff, happy and very polite, a young boy working behind the bar on 26th August and the lady at reception on 27th Aug who's just returned from a holiday down under.

Wedding Here - Noooò you'd be mad to

As soon as you entered this building you were greeted with flies everywhere. The room where the wedding reception was being held had the bread cakes already laid and the flies where having a better time then we were. It put you off the food straight away plus the wedding cake was on display also being visited by flies. Needless to say we did not look forward to the meal as who knows what was flying in the kitchen. To say this had a scores on the door of 5 displayed on the door was beyond my belief. When asked about the flies I was told it was the area of the venue with shrug of the shoulders. A fly prevention board should be installed ASAP.  Some of the guest were staying over night and they said there was no hot water in the rooms. I thought no establishment could run without this. Most of the staff were quite polite and helpful others i found to be quite rude. The food was less than adequate one piece of broccoli two small potatoes and a spoonful of beans obliviously not enough food to go round. The evening was once again all about the flies. No way will I suggest this fly trap in all it was totally disappointing.

A Total Disappointment

This is my first stop on the Wolds Way, a National Trail from Hessle to Filey. As the hotel is on a busy road the owner collected me from the walk and took me back the next morning. The room was spacious, well equipped and very clean. Good steak for dinner and an excellent breakfast.    Great views over the Vale of York from the dining room. The staff were chatty and helpful. A very enjoyable stay.

Perfect service

We had our wedding on 28th July 18,we had a brilliant day and so did all our guests. About 20of them stayed the night before and they couldn't have been more helpful especially with one of our family members having come out of hospital the same day Laura, Alison and the team went above and beyond. The wedding day it's self was amazing the staff was so helpful especially Alison she was always there to help. The girl behind the bar was super too. The food was gorgeous, we couldn't have asked for a better day. Thankyou too Laura and her team for making our day so special. Charlotte and Dave x
