We booked and paid for this hotel before our 8 night stay sadly .  The only good thing to say about it were the staff were all pleasant and there it stops.  The room was spacious and on the surface appeared fine. However, we were not aware that there is absolutely NO housekeeping service. On closer inspection the shower drainer was filthy, full of hairs and stains and mould. 
The toilet seat was flimsy plastic and far too small for the toilet. We had to go and buy bleach and antiseptic wipes and clean the room ourselves.  This is unacceptable and a complete disgrace, especially given the need for hygiene post COVID.   I dropped my glasses one night and had to move the bed to get them. Behind the bed was years of dust and under the bed was the same with rubbish and old tissues etc. Absolutely filthy.

Despite there being tea and coffee making facilities in the room the cups are not cleaned or changed at all. On day three we requested that the room and bathroom be cleaned, bin emptied and cups changed. The "cleaner" did come in and left 1 loo roll and folded the towels but that was all. On speaking to the staff in the bar one of them kindly went and completed the task. She should not have had to do this but there is NO management at this place and the staff, while pleasant, are not managed or supervised. They are all very young and have no interest to knowledge of anything that is available or happening locally. 

We only ate in the restaurant once and had a very poorly cooked meal which was greasy and awful. An experience we would not repeat again. Fortunately the pub just around the corner serves very good food. 

The hotel is a lovely old building with great potential but is very poorly  decorated and has random and inappropriate decor for the age of the building. The "courtyard garden" is a selection of broken down tables and chairs and serious collection of weeds. It is utterly uncared for and neglected.  The gutters are full of rubbish and the sight greeting guests as they leave their room is overgrown weeds, rubbish and bins. 

This is a hotel experience that we would never go though again and could not recommend anyone to stay at this filthy dirty, neglected and unwelcoming place.

Could be better for this price

We stayed here while we went on a evening trip in the Bluebell railway as it’s about the closest. 
The room was lovely with a nice welcome.  We had a slight taxi issue which the landlady very kindly helped us out with a lift.  We didn’t have dinner but did have an amazing breakfast.  Would stay again if in the area.

Lovely pub, fires burning, great service, yummy food! Beef roast was so good. Pud was a tad expensive for what it was but otherwise a fabulous meal out. Would definitely go back 😊 but the menu  was so nice I don’t know what we’ll have 😋🤣

Lovely pub, lovely grub

A really nice meal. supported by friendly and accommodating staff. I had fish and chips and the menu was honest enough to say the fish was coley, but who knew it wasn't cod as it was fresh and cooked to perfection with really crispy batter and proper pureed peas on the side. My wife said her wagu  burger was excellent and our thoughts were echoed by friends. service was perfect- not too fast and not too slow.

A really nice meal

Here for a family wedding in area beautiful pup, room really clean and well presented very comfortable bed staff are all really professional and friendly I didn't get a photo but if your here on a Friday night have the curry option fantastic food and excellent value. Under new management and id say there definitely going in right direction. 

Nice surprise 

Booked in at the Bull for 4 nights when arrived greated by very friendly staff and   offered choice of 2 rooms.We chose a smaller room with what I would describe as a quirky bathroom but suited us for our stay. We were able to open the windows albeit slighty difficult. The breakfast situation was explained to us on arrival and we had no problem whether we had the included breakfast ( cereals toast & pastries) or something cooked off the small but varied menu. Always well served by cheerful staff each morning
 Although there was very little housekeeping service there was no trouble replenishig anything in the room be it fresh towels or tea & coffee
Wi fi was a be dodgy in the bedroom but no problem in the main pub area
We considered the price we paid very good value
This pub is set in a very pretty village and we would stay again if in the area

Quirky

Friendly food and yummy staff, Harvey’s beer. Need I say more.

Apparently I do need to say more. We will come back if they’ll have us. I’d also recommend it to a friend. In fact I think I’ll bring a pal whose a big wig in CAMRA to come for a meal. Mmm.

Nice pub grub

Very helpful and kind staff. A nice small, clean room but couldn’t open a window. No WiFi in bedrooms.
Good continental breakfast.
Overall, a charming pub on the green in the lovely village of Newick and they did well looking after a lot of visitors arriving for a friends ‘Wake’.

Very nice

We visit the Bull every year for a meal before we play in a bowls match in the village, the meals have always been of a high standard, but not this year. A very disappointing meal. We had the roast, a beef and a pork. The presentation was appalling, all looked plonked on the plate. A very large Yorkshire pudding on the side, the meat which was on top of the vegetables, were luke warm. All was swamped in gravy which was congealed at the bottom of the plate. We did complain and the drinks charge was removed from the bill.
