A lovely hotel that always ensures a warm welcome. The staff bend over backwards to ensure that all your needs are catered for and the food is excellent. We have stayed at Maesmawr Hall on several occasions and will continue to use the hotel in the future.

Not the best experience, a place to avoid.

£17.70 for a pint of (not very nice) bitter shandy and a wine spritzer - seriously?  What a rip-off.

Starter - prawn cocktail.  Simply a square of prawns set on a square of lettuce.  Not so much a cocktail as there was no Marie Rose or cocktail sauce whatsoever.

Main course - roast beef.  Excellent roast beef.  The vegetables were undercooked, massively, and were served barely luke warm.  My partner had salmon, which also beautifully cooked, but the same poor vegetables.

Dessert - lemon tart.  Excellent.  However, my partner had Baileys crème brulée, of which there wasn't the slightest hint of Baileys, nor was there any brulée, it was just a small bowl of mousse with zero caramelized sugar.

Rest assured, we won't be coming back.

A mixed bag - drinks a rip-off, and 50/50 for the food

Ancient characterful building, extremely friendly and welcoming staff, clean room and comfortable beds, nice food and wonderful breakfast. I would recommend this hotel if you are looking to stay in the area. 

Very enjoyable stay with friends

Really disappointing and rude welcome, arrived at 10 to 3, told to 'go over there and wait'. Sat in car then was told room was ready (no sign of housekeeping team).

Room very average, cramped and sink took ages to drain. Bathroom poorly designed.

Disappointing and Rude

Had the pleasure of staying for a birthday getaway, Hotel is absolutely beautiful with open fire in the bar area. We stayed in room one which had lovely views of the garden to the side of the property. Rooms are clean and very comfortable with everything you would want, Evening meal in the restaurant was fantastic as was the breakfast. We were very surprised about how reasonable everything was priced. Will definitely be going back. This is more a 4 star hotel than the 3 it holds.

Hidden Gem

I had wanted to stay at Maesmawr Hall for several years after calling in during a journey home to Pembrokeshire for tea, and found a warm welcome in the bar with fantastic service, tea and scones in front of the fire. I came to stay at last to celebrate a friend's birthday and to have a brief but relaxing night away and Maesmawr more than lived up to our expectations. We loved our rooms and I cannot agree with an earlier review who said that my room was small and the bathroom cramped - it was warm and cosy and perfectly adequate. Everything was very clean and comfortable and I had a great night's sleep. Staff were lovely and welcoming as usual and the food was excellent. Sadly we didn't see the ghostly Roman legions marching past during the night although there have been reported sightings! We would definitely stay again.

Lovely mini break

I cannot recommend this hotel enough.
From the moment I phoned with a query prior to booking through to checkout, they could not have done more to accommodate our particular needs and make our stay special. All of the staff are very friendly and the hotel has a wonderful atmosphere, it has so much character and you are welcomed on arrival by the warmth and smell of a beautiful log fire in the lounge. Our bedroom was beautifully decorated and our bed was very comfortable with lovely pillows and all exceptionally clean. Our room was at the back of the property with a lovely view of fields and the flood plain of the Severn River.
On arrival we had cream tea - freshly baked scones that were warm and melt in the mouth, I would highly recommend having this.
Our evening meal was also excellent, and they could not have done more to cater for my particular dietary requirements. The food was of a very high standard. Breakfast was very special and also of a high standard with a great choice of hot food cooked to order.
I am not usually inclined to write reviews but felt I should  do so because Maesmawr is a very beautiful and special place run by a team of people that provide an exceptionally high standard and make you very welcome. I am sure I will return and have already recommended it to my family and friends. Highly recommended!

A beautiful old bulding run by wonderful staff to a very high standard.

Booked for 50th wedding anniversary lunch, just a small group of close friends, and were allocated a private dining room which was lovely.  Great bottle of champers to kick things off, and the food was great as was the service. All in all a memorable occasion, thankyou Maesmawr Hall for making it so.     Had lunch there prior to Xmas with different group of friends with a similar excellent experience.

Excellent celebratory lunch

My partner and I thoroughly enjoyed our 4-night stay in a Superior Room.  The standard of the breakfasts and dinners was high and the cosy atmosphere in the bar and restaurant made eating and drinking very pleasant.  The hotel team were all very friendly and helpful.  It's nice to have plenty of parking space right outside the hotel which is in a very quiet location at the end of a long driveway.

Lovely experience

We don't stay as we are local but as I cannot find the review section for the restaurant and in order to counter the absolute tosh people are writing about the food at Maesmawr Hotel I am going to say without reservation it is of the highest quality and the best I have ever had in a long life. The service,ambience and setting of the Nessfield dining room is also without parallel. Sitting in the bar  afterwards with a roaring open fire on a cold winter day cannot be beaten for the sheer enjoyment.
