Does not derserve a star rating as the dump is not worth anything as the lady who runs it has no idea who to treat people. AVOID at all costs.

NOT a nice owner. More wrapped about the cats instead of humans and food terrible full of hairs. NO T GOOD!

AVOID the place needs shutting!!!

We've stayed before and we loved it. The location, superb scenery and gorgeous places to visit are ideal for walkers, historians and lovers of nature, but the best part of this stay is visiting Eileen again. 
Eileen is what makes Thornley House B&B unique. A lover of cats, esp big cats, this is a home that is devoted to them. If you don't like cats, then go somewhere else as they are as individually fascinating as Eileen. 
The rooms at Thornley House are very comfortable and spotlessly clean. The breakfast is delicious and prepared by Eileen each Morning. I highly recommend lovers of cats and people who love things a little quirky to stay at Thornley House... especially when Eileen is in residence. 


Purrfect for Cat Lovers and purrveyors of comfort and quirkiness 

Well this B&B is an absolutely lovely find. Full of interesting things and the garden is beautiful. With the added bonus of a baby grand piano which our host Eileen was happy for me to play.  

The house is charming with many interesting objects and pieces of art throughout. There’s also several gorgeous cats, 8 at the moment.

Our room was large and very comfortable with en-suite facilities. Tea and coffee making facilities were provided too.  It was definitely a room with a view and we looked out over the garden into a field with sheep roaming. It was very tranquil and relaxing, a real retreat.

Eileen was a fabulous host and made us feel right at home, giving us a guided tour of part of the immense garden. There were many objects collected during her travels around the world. A very interesting lady. Eileen’s friend Shirley was absolutely lovely and looked after us on the last morning of our stay. 

We would definitely like to visit Thornley House again and thank Eileen, Shirley and the cats for their hospitality.

Fabulous B&B

This beautiful house is hidden down a short gravel road. No shops for miles in fact nothing. Perfect if you want that peaceful rest. Quirky filled with things collected on the owners travels around the world. You might see her cats on your travels. Beautiful wrap around garden with hammocks and places to sit. We slept well in the comfy beds and everything so clean. Breakfast was good too especially the sausages. I would do research before you come as we didnt see a welcome pack of places to visit but there is wifi. Nothing around you but beautiful greenery and only sounds of the local lambs and birdys

Quiet and peaceful

Our room was comfortable, with chairs you want to relax in, all the space and facilities you need and a lovely view out of two different windows.  Bathroom separate but private to our room and again comfortable with lots of space for toiletries and thick warm towels.  Breakfast at a communal table - lots of local food, whatever you ask for, all delicious, with an array of idiosyncratic salt, pepper, sugar etc containers, and a view of the horses grazing outside.  The owner is charming and the whole place just as you could dream of if imagining a perfect English B&B.

We stayed over the weekend (24th august) as we seen this B&B on 4 in a bed and we just had to go since we are cat lovers. Eileen was very welcoming when we arrived, she made us tea and home made scones with jam where we sat outside in her lovely garden with so many nooks and crannys. We done the thornley house trail where it takes you to the pet cemetry. she no longer has the donkeys but she does have two beautiful horses. Now this place is for cat lovers and you will fall in love with all of them. 
The room was clean and the private bathroom and toilet were also clean. Facilities are good. The views from the bedroom window are spectacular . Eileen has this lovely tree in her garden and it was covered in butterflys. For the evening we visited allendale which is only a 15-20 minute walk. (can take longer coming back as its uphill) It is tranquil and relaxing . Breakfast was good, Eileen has fresh fruit, cereals and a lovely cooked breakfast. All in all it was a delight to stay and we would definatley go back

A beautiful location with some lovely furry friends

A lovely B and B just outside Allendale, with the added attraction (for cat lovers) of  three Maine Coons and three other kitties. The house has lovely gardens and lots of character.

Very comfortable and convenient for Hadrian's Wall and other lovely parts of Northumberland.

A Great B and B for Cat Lovers!

My wife and I are rather fond of cats which is good news as our house is full of them! It therefore seemed very natural to seek out a B&B furnished with similar and excellent cats! 

True to expectation we pulled up, saw the cat sign, and then saw a couple of cats! We were then further welcomed by Shirley who, along with several cats, proved to be the perfect host. 

The house itself is full of character (and did I mention, cats…?) Spacious, with a large lounge to relax in and comfortable rooms. An unexpected bonus for me was an Indian take away five minutes away on foot, which is actually very good. So we had a great meal in on the first night. For a pub, you have to try harder but only slightly as again it’s easy walking distance. Again, a very nice place, does food, takes cards.

The cats are very friendly, I had a couple purring on my knee on the first night. Some are more wary than others but when they work out you’re a cat person, they are very keen to make your acquaintance. We also brought our own diabetic cat, and were able to care for her in the room. She even met a couple of the in-house gang. 

The cooked breakfast was fantastic and the surrounding area has many walks and great scenery. 

In summary if you love cats, this is it. It’s great everything is so right on top of that. My wife and I are definitely returning soon. I personally think all B&B’s should be full of cats but not all agree. If you’re reading this, love cats, or if you can’t even go on holiday without cats, this represents the end of your quest for enlightenment – you have arrived!

Wonderful place run by friendly cats and friendly staff!

We booked here for a weekend break because as the website advertises, we are lovers of fine cats! We brought one of our own cats, CC with us as she's diabetic and needs insulin shots twice a day, this was no problem and she settled in fine despite the resident cats being very intrigued by her! We were looked after by Shirley who was very welcoming and did more than enough to make us feel at home - as did the cats! We are planning to return in the summer so we can enjoy the gardens too. We loved the cat themes in the decor and the breakfast was amazing.

We'll definitely be returning!

A very nice environment, quiet, magical garden, beautiful character property well set to explore the surroundings (Hadrian walls + nature park walks of the North Pennines, etc.). A personalized welcome by a highly cultivated multilingual hostess who has seen the world.
