We stayed for a wedding and everything was perfect. The garden is stunning to sit and relax in, free parking, tasty hot breakfast that you select the night before, comfy rooms and stunning old decor. The house is beautiful. Caroline was very friendly and helpful. We would certainly stay again and can highly recommend this to anyone in the area. It’s superb value for the rate of room too. Loved the 4 poster bed! Don’t miss this gem.

Beautiful stay and incredible value for money!

A great B&B it's a listed building and the garden is lovely. I stayed in the Regency en-suite room it was just what you'd expect from such a building a comfortable bed with great pillows the en-suite was small but spotlessly clean. The cooked breakfast was good and Caroline the host was so friendly and welcoming. Overall a good experience and good value for money

Lovely B&B very quaint

Instructions involving codes for gate and doors, plus an online registration form, made a daunting introduction. I made a phone call before travelling, to find exactly where to park.

In the end, it proved easy. Parking was in a marked area at the rear of the nursery next door, and the various doors were no problem. The old house was a delight, though not quite so good inside.

I was allocated a large single room, poorly furnished and decorated, but well stocked with proper coffee and a 'French press' maker. I could have done without the message that I would be prosecuted if I vandalised the place; I didn't. and I wouldn't have, anyway.

My biggest complaint was the bed - horrible soft, squidgy mattress, scratchy linen. I think they may have changed it, following my moan, but I wasn't sure!

Apart from that, all was good. Breakfast was lovely and plentiful, and served in a fine room. More excellent coffee. The shared bathroom proved no problem at all, and I had a pleasant stay.

I was there to watch a cricket match in nearby Chelmsford, and transport links were excellent. It was also walkable, for someone fitter than me. Great Baddow itself is very pleasant.

The bottom line is that I would happily stay here again.

Mixed bag, mainly good

Stayed here whilst having to attend a court trial in nearby Chelmsford. 

The trial was delayed, Peter the owner, not only understood my plight but also kindly upgraded me and bent over backwards to help. 

The place is delightful, old, creaky and full of character. 

Would highly recommend!!

Hopefully will stay again in better circumstances, and enjoy the building, beautifully kept gardens and village one day.

Just excellent.

Wonderful spacious regency room with en suite. Lovely comfy bed with huge TV and own sitting area with 2 chairs and table.
The property is a lovely period Manor House oozing with charm. It has a beautiful garden and parking. There is a choice of cooked breakfasts (select the night before) or continental again with lots of choices.
Peter is a patient, thoughtful, considerate and most accommodating host. Caroline who is in charge of house keeping does a first rate job in catering to the guests requirements.
Due to personal unforseen circumstances I was there for a month and it was a relief to be able to have such a wonderful base in the area.
Everyone is so friendly and I was made to feel so welcome it was like a home from home for me. I also got to meet many other interesting people during my stay.
I would definitely return and would highly recommend it to family and friends if they wished to stay in the area.

Excellent base for extended stay

Very comfortable Georgian room with a key to a private bathroom. Peter offers a superb cooked breakfast each day. 
Lovely big garden with a nearby park to walk in and dog friendly which was a must for us. Caroline does a great job keeping the house in order and staying there made what would have been a very difficult time for us much easier. 
Definitely recommended.

Great place for a long comfortable and affordable stay

Family run B&B in Gt Baddow near Chelmsford. Very quiet village located very near to wonderful countryside for walks and right on the doorstep of Essex’s county town, Chelmsford with all of its amenities.

The B&B is a period Manor House (Grade II) dating from 1600. The B&B is situated just of Gt Baddow High St and once you enter the front gate there is a wonderful garden and the building itself. 

I stayed in the Victorian room and was met by the owner Peter. The room was lovely and I really enjoyed the breakfast (you must pre-select what you want and leave in reception the night before).

Visiting friends nearby this was the perfect base to visit Chelmsford for dinner, take long walks in the surrounding countryside and, drive down to the Saltmarsh Coast.

Very friendly staff. Great location. I would definitely recommend!

Full of charm and really beautiful setting - Great Baddow’s hidden gem!

Peter is a fantastic host, the rooms and the building are very traditional and comfortable, I’ve stayed there multiple times now and it beats any chain hotels. Breakfast is great and I stayed there during the COVID lockdown and everything was thought of. 

Clean and comfortable

Just stayed here last night. The house & rooms are quaint and in keeping with an old historical house. Very charming. We stayed in the Regency room and it was a good size with a comfortable bed. Lovely tittle touches like fresh flowers, chocolate, water & robes. En suite was a little small but as it’s an addition to an old house I didn’t expect a large salubrious bathroom. However the plumbing was problematic- toilet made a loud noise when flushed meaning you couldn’t do that overnight or early in the morning out of consideration to your neighbours, the shower also drained a little slowly - which the polite sign advised would cause it to leak into the downstairs nursery. However I didn’t find the ad hoc signs displayed in the bathroom to be as friendly, as Peter has called out in response to other reviews. I have no doubt they are warranted but could be a little more friendly eg apologising if damage has to be paid for. The hot breakfast was good, but again like previous reviews was served to you immediately upon your entrance to the breakfast room. We thought that the 9am listed on the breakfast menu request was the sitting and not the exact time for breakfast. Again like others I feel that having breakfast only available to 9am when on a weekend when on holiday is disappointing - sure you want a bit of a leisurely start to your day 😃

Disappointing

A fine listed building early 17th Century Manor House sensitively furnished and decorated in keeping with a building dating to 1600. The Edwardian single room is comfortable, clean with tv, tea & coffee facilities. Not en-suite but shower room just across the landing. For the price and character recommended, would stay again.
