We booked this hotel in march 2023 as we were attending a wedding in the area on new years eve . Everything seemed fine until 6 weeks prior , the new owners wanted to double the price of our stay . We had lots of phone calls and emails about the increase in cost which left us with no alternative but to look for other accommodation . A few other guests we knew were staying too and had their rooms cancelled or increased 100% .

We booked very last minute for a Group Birthday dinner.. They were very welcoming and managed to squeeze us in for the Hog Roast evening. We arrived too very friendly staff, which made the whole experience wonderful. We look forward to going back again this year.

Welcoming local Pub

We were booked for 2 nights for our wedding anniversary.  This is a beautiful building for a hotel stay.  The Great Hall and bar area are very welcoming and lovely. 
When we arrived we had a warm and friendly welcome, and we were shown to our room which was lovely and nicely decorated.  Only downside was it was over the bar area and it was noisy! 
There was a lack of information in the room about timings for breakfast and the smaller touches were missing the finer detail - we had to find someone and ask and as the hotel has no reception just a room off the Great Hall we struggled with that. It was a busy period for the hotel as it was Christmas and they had group bookings for dinners.  Which also meant for  us that we couldn’t stay for dinner on the second night or easily just have a drink in the bar.  On the first night we did book dinner but unfortunately due to a staff accident it was cancelled, but the hotel found us somewhere else which we thought was excellent of them. 
An unfortunate incident happened where the barman came into our room unannounced as water was coming through the ceiling into the bar - my husband was in the shower so there must have been an underlying plumbing issue.  He did apologise but was a bit shocked!
The young lady that served us at breakfast both days was very good and nothing was too much trouble!  
Overall, we had a nice stay.  We will not return again, as we were disappointed, but reading the other reviews people have had a wonderful stay.  We did say that it would be nice to stay in the summer as they have a nice courtyard area. 



Anniversary Weekend Away

We booked a two night Christmas stay with this establishment via Booking.com in September 2023.
Today, 17/11/2023, out of the blue, they email us to say they are increasing the price by 100%.  Pay up or, well, nothing really...
We have cancelled.
We could have questioned the legality of this, but decided we'd rather not stay with a company with these ethics, 
Considering we also visited the hotel between the booking and now to confirm all was OK, it appears strange.

Stunning hotel with fabulous history and loads of charm situated in lovely Cotswold village that has ample parking. 

Bedrooms all tastefully decorated with super comfy beds and high end bed linens. 

Andrew and his Wife Ann Marie are excellent hosts and are supported by a first class team of staff.  Locals from the village pop in to use the bar in evenings which gives the place a nice buzz/ambiance. 

Cooked breakfasts are all freshly cooked to order and use locally sourced produce.  Sunday lunch was probably one of the best we’d ever had so would highly recommend

Great stay in a very charming hotel

We stayed on the night of 18th Feb. We had no problems from start to finish. 

It was my partner's and I's first night away by ourselves for a few years and the 24 hours we spent at the Shaven Crown made it really special. Jerry and the staff made us very welcome, nothing was to much trouble and the atmosphere was relaxed and comfortable. The room was lovely and the hotel itself was really in keeping with Cotswolds.

In short we would definitely recommend and we hope to stay again in the not to distant future.

A cracking stay in the Cotswolds

We booked the hotel for a BIG family birthday in early January. From the outset Jerry and Rik could not have been more helpful. They wanted to ensure the celebrations went to our satisfaction and worked hard making sure everything was simply fantastic. Rik’s cooking is amazing- every meal was outstanding, being cooked to perfection and served with style by Julie. We stayed for two nights and had a celebration lunch on the following day. All our guests dietary needs were looked after without any fuss, with compliments all round for the quality (and plentiful portions) of the food. The rooms are comfortable although the bathrooms could do with updating. Overall we could not have found a better place for our celebrations. Thank you Jerry and Rik.

A fantastic place to celebrate with the family with superb food

Had a 2 night break at this lovely hotel during Christmas week. The history of the place is very interesting and our host/hotel manager Jerry was very knowledgeable and more than happy to answer any questions about the building. The bed was really comfy and the evening meal we had there was gorgeous as was the ample breakfast The staff were lovely.

We had booked a last minute stay for NYE and we were really impressed by the cleanliness and size of the room. Bathroom was a little dated but nothing too bad. What we were really amazed by was the chef went out of his way to source us the most amazing vegan breakfast. I called up two days prior and asked if they could do us a vegan breakfast to which they said they definitely could. He arranged vegan bacon, vegan sausages, even vegan halloumi. When we arrived for breakfast they had already set a high chair out for our daughter - its those little things that go along way! They had oat and soya milk and home made vegan mince pies too! It was brilliant. Staff were super friendly and polite and went out of their way to make our stay really lovely.
