Great pub with excellent rooms  . Superb food and very friendly staff and locals. Would love to have stayed longer.One if the best places I’ve stayed in.Will definitely return and recommend to anyone.I had Sausages and mash with onion gravy which was delicious.

Great pub with lovely rooms and food

We have been coming here for over 10 years, always been very satisfied with the Service and coziness. Hat was, so to speak, our English hangout. Of course a visit could not be missed this year during our visit to the UK. However... the company has been taken over and there is really nothing left of what we always experienced before. The case has been refurbished and it looks good at first sight.

Due to Charles' coronation, we (my son and I) wanted to stay an extra night on our way back from the Cotswolds. That was only possible if we took a more expensive room because it was full. Anyway, for € 180 per night you can of course expect a pleasant end to a week's holiday, so yes said. When we arrived, however, it turned out that only 1 room was occupied and the story was therefore money out of pocket.

During dinner the music went off at 21:00, we were the only ones in the restaurant, and we got an annoying feeling that they preferred us to go to the room. Very annoying. The other couple (also father/son) came in at a little after 9pm and was told they were already closed so they also went back to the room angry. When we left the restaurant not a glance or comment could be taken as we walked close to the staff. Back in the room I was not comfortable and I went back to the owner / manager and I complained. I got the impression that he didn't mind, I told him everything and told him to take advantage of it and that I would like an answer on the room rates and the story behind it. When the mini mini bar opened, perhaps there was still something to drink for us, unfortunately .. The mini bar was full of bags of mayonnaise! What should I do with that in the room?

Because we had to be at the boat in Harwich at 8 o'clock after the 2nd night, I had asked by email if we could get a breakfast package, which was no problem. I indicated this to the owner, but he said that this was not possible at all? There was no room in the fridge for a package with a few slices of bread??? I showed him that e-mail and he said that he might come earlier on Sunday morning to serve breakfast, but it was clear that he was not interested in that.

The next morning we went for breakfast and I must say this had nothing to do with the photos on the site. There was NO ham, cheese, yogurt, or anything (see photos). The floor was still full of leftover food and there were 2 old coffee makers that we had to find out how they worked. WORTHLESS!

The food in the restaurant and the rooms were fine, although we were in a room for the disabled where the sink hung very low if you are not in a wheelchair.

Then the dinner on the 2nd day, there was no beer of our favorite brand after 1 glass and no new keg? My son ordered creme brulee because he liked it so much the first day, that wasn't there anymore!!? This while the restaurant was almost empty again.

We also canceled breakfast after the 2nd night and had a great breakfast on the Stena Line. At least the owner could have a good night's sleep...

At checkout no response to my question about the room rate and my previous comment.

I think with this service and commitment this place will not last long, no one will put up with this.

In short, absolutely not recommended!

After more than 10 years the conclusion is that this will be the last time, very unfortunate for the previous owners who had made such a nice cozy pub.

Dramatic experience and bad service!

So today me and my wife went for a little lunch date and the kings arms was the place we had in mind....... wow what a place...... the pub is newly refurbished and looks fantastic the garden and grounds that sits on is stunning..... FOH staff really professional and friendly.... the food was a solid 10 out of 10 its really well worth a visit....... we'll definitely be regular from now on

Stayed in the old rooms above the pub.

Found the room clean and comfortable if a little tired but I don't mind that as it adds to the character. Can't comment on the new rooms which are beside the main building.

The room does look out over the front of the pub which means the busy A120 is close by. There is some traffic noise but I did not find it effected my sleep.

The show produced a decent supply of hot water.

Breakfast was cooked to order and was decent.

Overall a decent venue for an overnight stay.

Lovely rooms, very well equipped.
Great breakfast, friendly staff, a lovely place with an excellent beer garden.
Would definitely recommend and would stay again.
Shame it was only for one night but it was a great location for a nearby wedding.

Stayed here for two nights for work. The Double superior room was very spacious with room to work and the bathroom was also big although it's a shame about some poor quality tile work.
The bed and pillows were super comfortable and very quite away from the bar. The rear door giving access to the carpark also leads to the smoking area which was a bit loud on one night as my room was at the back.
The breakfast was excellent and if I hadn't had early starts I might have made even more of it.
The evening restaurant menu is very nice but the quality of cooking was a bit variable with a very overcooked sea bass while the accompanying seafood risotto was delicious and well cooked. 
My favourite pudding is Creme Brulee which tasted delicious but wasn't set. It's good to see a nice local hotel really trying to do things well it just needs to be a little tighter to be even better.

We stopped here on our way home from Stansted Airport for dinner. The food was very good traditional pub food, great service and a lovely pub atmosphere. I would definitely stop there again. Highly recommend it.

Excellent dinner and atmosphere

We had an excellent stay. The room was equipped with everything you could wish for. The breakfast was exceptional. The owners & their staff could not be more helpful. All should be very proud of them selves.. WELL DONE.

THE KING OF COGGESHALL

Old English pub still open, that's a rarity in itself.  Good pleasant rooms, excellent pub, good choice of beers and wines and spirits.  Excellent food and a wide variety.  I was b+b so breakfast was lovely, I had full English but you get a choice, fresh fruit if you want, cereals etc.  The price was reasonable for what you get.  So if you want 5* then go and pay for it.  If you want great staff, fantastic landlady and landlord, then come and stay.  As stated these old and charming places with charchter and charm won't be here for long so don't miss out.  Forgot to mention they have a lovely garden to sit out in and chill. 5* recommendation from me.

Great Gem To Stay

had a lovely roast dinner here , big portion, good value , lovely pub with character, friendly staff ... thought the desserts was a bit pricey though  ...garden area with small tree play swing  for kids .
