Return for Sunday lunch which was as tasty and well presented as July when we visited for the first time - enjoyed a cheese board very much - especially the black cheese - nice portion for starter and main meal 

Lunch with family 

We have been going to the Angel for a lot of years and have had some very good meals and service.  Unfortunately our last visit was poor. I ordered 2 meals and paid for them, only one meal arrived, a soup and sandwich with some fries that hadn't been ordered (I had ordered chips to go with my meal, not fries) my husband's food was poor and my meal didn't arrive so I eventually chased it up (third time of asking). My food wasn't good when it did eventually arrive (with no chips). I realised that my meal hadn't been included in the initial order so should have subsequently paid for it but forgot to do so. My husband complained on tripadvisor and the general manager of the Angel replied in terms saying that my husband had been extremely rude to the staff and hadn't paid for my meal.  I don't know if he was rude (he says he wasn't) and I appologise for not paying for the meal that I thought was included in the original order (send bank details and cost) . The fact remains that the experience was poor and I would not recommend this place any more.  I am particularly annoyed that a real complaint has been dismissed and made to look like my husband was in the wrong. The general manager says that he does not feel the need to change based on our experience, does that mean it's ok to completely mess up the order?

A poor meal and service

We never stayed overnight so can't comment on the hotel, but we visited for food and were very dissapointed to be honest, not sure what was going on in the kitchen. We had 2 soups with cheese and pickle sandwiches, these should never have came out of the kitchen to be served, the soup was nice but the sandwiches were practically frozen and the brioche bun was stale and very dry, we tried but couldnt eat them as they were way too cold as if they had been premade and kept in a very cold fridge, the staff did offer to warm them up !! another of our party ordered the fish finger sandwich and they wished they hadnt, the 3 absolutely tiny (prawn sized) pieces of fish were a disgrace!! the side order of chips were nice but there was only 13 small chips..yes I counted them, what a shame as this place had a good reputation for food so I can only assume they were massively under pressure in the kitchen, the serving staff were lovely by the way so thank you to them :)

careful with your food choice!

Dirty and shabby. This was not a cheap room (£140 per night) but the carpet was dirty, the window blinds were filthy and covered in dead flies and spiders. The drain in shower was disgusting and there was a 'drain' smell from back of hotel. the room in picture was certainly nothing like the one we were in which was horrible. The stair carpet was absolutely filthy. We ate in bar and food was not nice. I had a potato and mushroom pie which was like a bowl of soup with a crust on and at £16 was a rip off. One of our party had fish and chips and could not eat the batter as it was really disgusting. She told the waiter who said he would pass comments on to chef - she got no response at all from anybody. All in all we were very disappointed. Good points? well, the staff were very nice!!

Dirty and shabby

We stayed here as part of a coast to coast cycle. We had a spacious and comfortable room above The Angel Inn with everything we needed available.
Staff were friendly and welcoming and the pub closed at a reasonable time so there wasn't any late night noise to keep us awake. We set off early the next morning but were given tasty egg butties to take away as we missed breakfast.
We also ate dinner in the pub and had excellent, fresh, plant based starter and mains.

Spacious and comfortable room above the pub

I had not been to this bar restaurant for a long time, I will not leave it so long until I next visit as the whole experience was excellent.

I had the daily special which was halibut cooked to perfection in a beautiful sauce with accompaniments to complement it.

An added bonus was the low prices and high standard of cooking and presentation.

The staff gave us a warm welcome and were attentive.

I am not usually a fan of pub food, often finding the skills of the chefs to be lacking. This pub stands out as a shining example of how it should be done.

What a catch

We were walking Hadrian’s Walk Way and stayed here one night. It was one of our favourites. The food was the best of all the places we stayed and the rooms were very comfortable. There is a guest lounge with sofas as well as the pub dining room. The staff were friendly. And I had a bath in my room which was very welcome!

Great place to stay

Stayed here in a family room with bunkbeds. Very comfortable, even in extremely hot weather as the room had A/C. Room very nice and bathroom smart. Quiet. Clean. Ate a delicious (vegetarian) evening meal and had a great breakfast. Staff extremely helpful and friendly. Whole stay was perfect - couldn't ask for more.

Fantastic place to stay and eat

Very disappointing to find no cash allowed. Were going to visit with friends from down south whilst showing them beautiful Northumberland but went somewhere that accepted cash as the six of us all feel very strongly about the dismantling of the cash system.

Card only

This place is very tired. The carpet on the stairs is minging and the bar area used for breakfast has ripped seating and a grubby feel to it. We couldn't drink the OJ as it was warm and tasted sour. The breakfast itself was edible but luke warm . Even after asking for extra butter I still only had enough for one slice of toast and only had one type of jam. The room was nicely decorated and clean but no teaspoons and 2 bedside tables but only one side had a lamp. 
Not going back any time soon.
