Visited here in January with my wife as every January we go away to one of Solid Luxury’s sites and this year decided on this one as we have not really explored Fife. On arrival we were met by a member of staff as the lodge we had booked was having water issues but he directed us to our new one which turned out to be an upgrade to the beautiful Cherry Blossom cottage. It was stunning. It was massive inside with a huge bathroom well decorated and a free standing bath.  The hot tub was located to the front but still private.  The only thing we did notice was the last night the hot tub was not very warm but the heating in the cottage had also been off so don’t know if there had been an issue that day when we were out. This site is well located in Fife with only short drives to Cupar, St Andrews and also Dundee.  We went walking each day and if you like a nice challenging walk try Kingsbarn to St Andrews (Walk Highlands website) or for a bit easier there is a nearby walk from Cupar to the Hopetoun monument.  On site there are a couple of llamas and little goats (they love an apple) and there was also some young cattle in the shed. The laundry room also stocks games and DVDs if you need them.  With regards to internet for us there was none.  We just couldn’t get a signal anywhere in the cottage so if you require internet then this may be an issue for you but to be honest didn’t really bother us. The kitchen had everything you will need and the log burner kept us toasty at night.  Only thing we needed was more matches and after calling someone was out almost immediately with them. Great service.  Highly recommend here for a nice break.

Beautiful cottage

Stayed at Hedgehog lodge for 3 nights.  Had the most chilled and relaxing time. Lodge was spotlessly clean and smelled fresh.  Very well equipped lodge, although would have benefited from a small lamp in the living area as we felt the ceiling lights on were a bit too bright. Would be a benefit to have a mop in the lodge also. Enough space for a couple and our dog. Bed was comfortable
Hot tub was great. The scenery was amazing 
We would definitely return here and felt it was very good value for money.

Chilled break

Was in Foz lodge a one bedroom lodge. Had stayed in a 2 bed before so were slightly worried that it would be too small but it was ideal for a couple  and a medium sized dog. So peaceful. Wouldn’t even know we had neighbours. Great place to stay for walks and visits to neighbouring places - St Andrews, Falkland, Elie are well worth visiting. We had an Indian delivered one night from Cupar. All the equipment needed to cook and eat in too. Can’t wait to go back. 
Only negative, no wifi at all in out lodge. Once you walked away from the lodge towards the laundry area we could pick it up. Didn’t affect our stay.

Stayed with family over Christmas. The farmhouse was amazing. Space was amazing and spotlessly clean! Had everything you needed and a nice welcome pack with tea/coffee etc. Hot tub and games room were well used! Nice walk down the the duck pond and lots to do in the surrounding area. Highly recommend

Amazing

We stayed in Douglas Fir Tree. The views are amazing, the lodge was very clean and the hot tub on the decking overlooking fields was very relaxing. There is a working farm behind the property where you can see pigmy goats and cows feeding. Very quiet. Just perfect for us. 

Very quiet and relaxing 

We have stayed with Solid Luxury on several occasions and last year decided to try their accommodation at Balmeadowside. It was so good we came again this year!! We had pre-ordered a bottle of Prosecco (chilled nicely in the fridge) and a box of chocolates, both enjoyed throughout the stay. Coming in February, we like to put on the log burner and you get a nice big basket of logs, kindling, fire lighters and matches to get you started. We stayed for 5 nights so brought some of our own logs, although these are available for a reasonable £5 on site.
The rooms were spotless and the property was lovely and warm throughout. PLenty of space to unpack and spread out. 
The open plan living room/dining is a more than ample for 4, and the kids were able to enjoy their board games on the dining table. There is also a smart TV, which meant you could sign in to your Netflix, Prime etc..
The hot-tub was again well prepared, if maybe needing a wee overhaul, eg, the lifting bar was missing meaning you needed to humph off the lid (do you know how heavy they are??). Nice enough, hot enough and clean; and maintained daily for levels.
The kids loved being next to the deer but were a wee bit disappointed that the llamas had moved to the far field, but a wee walk took us to see them. The young lad feeding the deer during out stay was happy to chat to us and tell us about the farm and the pheasants - didn't get his name, but was a credit to the company - he had only been there a few weeks. Lastly, we need to mention the goats - the kids loved going to feed them, and we got a an extra surprise as there were 3 new born kids that they got to hold. Thanks to the other guy who let us do this and was telling us about them.
Lots to see in the area. Would highly recommend the Scottish Deer Centre, operating a pay-as-you-please scheme at the moment. We also went to Muddy Boots - OK, but the usual not fully operating in the low season, although the entry prices were adjusted for this - and try the cafe on site - the food was excellent. You also need to go to Cupar for a wander in the park or tea, and as the literature says, do not miss out on a fudge donut from Donasldsons and Fisher.
We will most likely be back the same time next year!!


Great to go with the kids - make sure you explore Fife!

We sent three nights in Hare lodge with our pup for our first stay away with our new addition. We were looking for a dog friendly getaway with a hot tub. This place was perfect with beautiful views, clean setting, dog friendly and private amongst the other lodges. Excellent walks on property and friendly customer service when we had a few little issues. We also ordered the venison and it was delicious! Overall, highly recommended.

Hare Wild Woods Lodge… just perfect

We have stayed at Balmedowside a few times, this was the first time with our Guide Dog Pup in training. We stayed in the Hare Lodge, had a great time. Pup enjoyed his biscuits and the walks. He wasn't quite so sure about cows or goats. Would definitely recommend.

Hare Lodge Balmedowside review

This was our 6th time staying at a Solid Luxury property.  We usually stay in the Lodges which we can not fault at all.
This time we opted for Rowan Tree Cottage to take advantage of the enclosed garden.
This cottage has the best views of the countryside  and right beside the deer. However the cottage itself did not come up to the standard thatwe are used to from Solid Luxury.
We felt the living area looked tired the walls could be doing with a freshen up, and chipped paintwork on doors. The rug has seen better days. The hall had a few marks on the wall and again chipped paintwork.. The two bedrooms were beautiful ,light and airy but again let down by chipped wood work on the doors. The biggest let down though was the 'en suite' it is a mess. very small. cheap flooring . woodwork not painted and woodwork not painted. Certainly not wh
at we expected from Solid Luxury.. We love Balmeadowside and would book again but back to the lodges..
