Previous reviews were spot on. A hiden gem, a friendly warm local, the staff were so helpful and accomodating. We stayed overnight in a well appointed, spacious room and could not fault the comfort and cleanliness. An abundance of tea, coffee, and spring water, the room was silently airconditioned, and the en suite was spotless. After an evening meal from a 'cant decide what to choose' menu which was cooked so the flavous grabbed your taste buds, and a chat with a few locals round an open fire, we retired to a bed which just hugged you as you drifted off. Highly recommend a stay over but if you dont have the time definitely book a meal and spoil yourselves, you wont regret a thing.

Amazing Experience

What an amazing place, contemporary and classic all at once.

We travelled down for the office Xmas meal, so booked a room to make more of an event of it.

We received the warmest of welcomes from every single member of staff we met, a simple check in at the bar, and we were being shown to our room.  I know I paid a premium as it was a busy night in party season, but I'd say it was still great value.  A lovely bed, plush cushions and a neat bathroom.  Plug sockets, storage and a TV.  Everything you'd expect.  Tea and coffee and some cookies left for us that were home baked.

On to the meal, we went to the bar a little early for a drink before everyone arrived.  There is an extensive wine list and lots of beers on tap.  We enjoyed our drink by the log fire.  Our party of 18 arrived and we were accommodated with ease and friendly smiles from the staff.  All three courses came out with ease, with servers on hand to ensure we were all eating together.  Nothing was too much trouble.

Then the food... Absolutely great.  lovingly presented and nice portions.  I enjoyed everything from the Mushroom Parfait to the Kentish blue on the fantastic local cheeseboard.

Don't do what we did and book an early ferry... Enjoy this lovely hotel, have a leisurely breakfast and enjoy the quiet countryside.

Just a couple of slight negatives (so you know this is real) it's a warm hotel.  I run hot anyway so was a little too warm downstairs.  There is Aircon in the room and thermostatic radiators too so dis get comfortable for sleep.

The bed was quite high, even for me at 6 foot.

The shower was a little lacklustre.

None the less, we will be back for a cozy retreat in the new year.

A modern classic

We took the dinner, bed & breakfast package which was great value. The place had 3 or 4 fires lit which added to the warm atmosphere. The food was great quality and plentiful. The room was very cosy with a cool roll top bath. We highly recommend this venue.

Great place to eat, drink & stay !

Booked this place for my husband's birthday (room + dinner package) - our room was ready when we arrived at 15:00, which was great. Check-in was smooth and the staff very friendly. Our room (Everden) was well-located at the side of the hotel - ok, no views, but we had a patio, which was great. It is a dog-friendly room, so the added bonus of the patio was great as our Frenchie could enjoy a bit of fresh air.
The room is beautifully decorated, the bed very comfortable and there are good amenities. One thing I would change/improve is the lighting. As much as I loved cozy, dimmed lighting, the room could do with being a little bit brighter just for the practical side of it. 
The room was fairly quiet too - no road traffic noise, not too much noise from upstairs or the corridor.
Oh, and there are dog bowls in the room - and a welcome bag with some food too! Our Frenchie was well impressed!
We stayed here for my husband's birthday - the towel art and message in the room were a nice touch.

And now onto the food: DE-LI-CIOUS! The food is beautifully presented, beautifully cooked and so tasty. The ox cheek is possibly the best dish I have ever had! Would have it as my starter, mains and dessert, it was so good. 
The service was good too. Good choice of drinks. 
Loved the decor - and of course, dog friendly!
I had been told that as it was my husband's birthday, his dessert would be served with a Birthday Touch added to it.. .This never happened. This was the only disappointment....

Would I go stay there again? Definitely. Would I eat there again? We will 100% be back!



Wonderful experience

We had a table for 6 for belated family birthday, food was very good, but for some reason we were put in a table away from restaurant main area, and although it was very comfortable & we had plenty of room, we felt a bit forgotten. At least 2 or 3 times we had to go to the bar to order extra drinks etc. The main waitress did take off the service charge, & we still left a tip, but the tall gentleman behind the bar had no interaction with us all & even we apologized for making a small complaint he just raised his eyes. Def not as good an experience as our previous few visits


Great food, shame about some of service

Stayed and ate here found every part of my stay welcoming . Room was good . Ordered the salt and pepper squid which was stunning and could have been a main. Then had lamb rump which was the tastiest lamb ive had for years. All staff we encountered were extremely friendly and attentive.

Excellent Pub serving great food.

This is building has been beautifully restored with no expense spared   The staff are enthusiastic and friendly and the facilities excellent. The food was quality bistro and the wine list extensive but would benefit  from some old world classics at sensible mark ups. Will and Sophie were brilliant and we will be back

A lovely country boutique hotel

Both of our roast lunches were tepid to say the least. No effort to rectify the situation or apologise. We were originally seated near an open outside door because of  a smoke problem from an open fire. I am not sure if requesting another table went down very well. Not the best experience and not somewhere we will be re-visiting.

Could be better

Stayed here last weekend for a friends wedding nearby at the Old Kent Barns. We had a really lovely stay, the room and breakfast were perfect! All the staff were very welcoming, polite and made checking-in etc effortless. Loved the freshly baked cookies in the room. The attention to detail is first class and the whole place has a really warm and cozy feel (especially with all the Christmas decoration and lights). Thank- you Marquis of Granby. I would highly recommend. Only wish we could have stayed longer for dinner - Our cab driver to the venue told us that the food here is sublime!

Welcoming and cozy…

Little gem in the countryside. We went here for lunch for my husbands 50th. The pub is beautifully decorated and warm and inviting. The food was all superb and we had a really knowledgable and friendly waitress Izzy. We will definitely be back and hope to stay overnight
