Nice basic hotel

I found the Farmhouse Inn perfect for a stay whilst working away. Rooms perfectly suitable with everything that was needed for a night or two.

Staff very friendly and food home cooked.

Would definitely stay again.

Perfect for a work stay

Needed a place to stay at short notice having arrived to Stansted Airport  before an onward journey to London. Arrived to the Farmhouse Inn to be greeted by a rude landlady who did not make us feel very welcome. Shown to room talk about a time warp very dated 1970's decor. Felt awkward about going to the bar resturant for some food and drinks so decided just to stay in the room. Could not wait to leave.

Great place to stay. Lovely food and very relaxing the owner is very welcoming and my wife and I really enjoyed our stay. Will be returning for a short break later in the year . Setting is stunning Essex countryside and the hotel has a nice relaxing atmosphere

I read a review on here from Jan 2016. Nothing has changed. 

Shared a room with my young son on a weekend road trip around North Essex / Cambridgeshire. The TV did not work (US Open Women's Tennis Final). The shower did not work, at all. The beds were so hard I could barely sleep from 2am onwards. Breakfast was 'extra', on a £80 a night room which has probably not seen any upgrade for over ten years. 

I have no idea how 70% of reviewers have rated this place either 'very good' or 'excellent'. I am incredulous at that. Really this place is in desperate need of an upgrade and has little to commend it except perhaps cold beer and the fact that Stansted Airport is 20 mins away. If B&B for two in our room comes out at £100 (which it did) I really despair at where we are going in this country. Ridiculous. Utterly ridiculous.

Comically Poor - Rip-Off Britain

Stayed here at last minute as we needed a flight early hrs of the morning was welcomed by Ed and shown around and was greeted by the the family who own and run this fantastic Inn we was in need of alot of help with booking onto our flights with covid paperwork and they helped us enormously with printing out test certificates and vouchers and fed us really well and kept us well watered with alcohol at a really reasonable price and to top of a great night one of the locals called Robin gave us a lift to the airport at 4 in the morning thank you all once again for your help will definitely call in again xx

Emergency hotel near airport

Stayed 2 nights at this comfortable and welcoming pub.  The staff were friendly and accommodating; the rooms although dated, were perfectly fine.  They were well appointed with strong wi-fi connection, which was free, plus a good supply of tea/coffee and biscuits with kettle.  Quiet room with an excellent cooked breakfast which you ordered the night before.  Being picky, the mattresses were a little soft and the shower water just warm enough but otherwise, good value for money and we would return.

Stayed in the inn and I appeared to have entered a time warp. The decor is dated and simple inexpensive upgrades to lamps, rugs, curtains, etc should be done. This is simply boring and the price, I guess reflects the lack of interest from management. It's a shame because the area is beautiful. The exterior is nice and so are the staff. A little updating is definitely required. 

Boring

Arrived about 7.50pm. No one behind bar. No ambience whatsoever. People in there staring at us as if we were aliens. No warm welcome. Barman turns up (he’s serving, waiting tables etc bless him). Got a drink and asked for a menu, only to be told “Menus are on shelf around corner”. Go to table with menus. Heart FM playing on the radio through speakers, lights way too bright. Really naff. Ordered ‘wholetail scampi’ (with salad, coleslaw and chips and a ‘cheeseburger with skinny fries’. Food arrives. Every scampi on the plate was uniform in size and shape, indicating that it wasn’t wholetail scampi at all. The cucumber on the salad was dried out, and the salad was scraps from end of bag and covered with balsamic dressing. This wasn’t mentioned on the menu. The fries looked as if some of them had been re cooked as they were very different shades, from golden to burnt. Cutting into a scampi it was grey and certainly not a single wholetail. The burger had liquid dripping out of it, and was tasteless and bland. I complained to the cook about my cucumber not being fresh to be told she had sliced it herself at lunchtime!! Hmmm, not freshly sliced at all then. I was also told that the scampi is bought in as Premium Wholetail Scampi. Nothing premium about it at all. So disappointing....no atmosphere, bright lights, radio, terrible food and a landlord that didn’t even address the issue. I was given a refund for my meal, which I was loath to pay for. Felt very sorry for the barman as he was doing everything. Absolutely one of the worst places I’ve been in a long time and my one and only visit, that’s for sure. Avoid if you can....

Absolutely the place to avoid....

We pulled up not having any expectations but we're bowled over by the food and friendly staff. We met others there who came for years and they love it too. So I guess it's pretty consistent.
