Had a great stay here with my dog. Room was very clean with ensuite and bar downstairs. Nice cafes 2 mins away for breakfasts 
Car parking included and friendly staff nice old building high ceilings sash windows comfy big beds no lift but only one floor to climb up

my friends and i found this place when looking for a last minute stay for new years, and what a stay it was, the host was absolutely wonderful and made us feel at home, the rooms was lovely and clean and the beds made me feel as snug as a bug in a rug. would definitely recommend for an affordable yet quality stay.

We stayed in the Superior Double room for 1 night. It was a very big room and the bathroom had a bath and a free standing shower which was great for us as I like a shower and my husband likes a bath.
The staff were very helpful and friendly. The food looked good but we did not eat there  as we had eaten before we arrived. We will be returning for another stay in the future. 
My only issue is my husband likes 2 pillows and there is only 1 each on the bed and no spare ones in the room so he had to use the cushions as a second pillow. That's the only reason for 4 stars and not 5 stars could not fault the rest of our stay.

Over night stay.

Called in for a pint or two with my good lady and the two dogs. An excellent welcome, and good beer. Seating was excellent.
Ordered two meals; the pasta bake and scampi and chips with mushy peas. Really excellent quality, thoroughly enjoyed our meals and do not hesitate to recommend the hotel.

First class.

After a three and a half hour journey we arrived to locked Hotel doors the time was 14.55 check in time was stated as 15.00 hours. A phone call from  a local person outside on the square kindly contacted the owner. The owner responded and said she would be down shortly.
Eventually after gaining access the first thing we noticed was the very dingy, dark and totally uninviting and disappointing reception area. No warm welcome, no friendly smiles, no apologies only questions over our booking. she showed us to our room on the second floor along a threadbare, dirty stair carpet looked like it had never seen a vacuum cleaner in a long,long time. ( disgusting). First response we thought the room was clean, very small not enough space for a chair, no hairdryer, no shower cap. the gap between the sash window and secondary double glazing was thick with dead insects, the window glass was  filthy. Room carpet was new but due to the lack of attention the door should have been taken off and refitted because we had huge difficulties pushing the door over the carpet just to access our room. the carpet came away completely from the gripping and although we informed the owner nothing was done to rectify the problem to a standard fit for purpose, someone came along and had a token gesture of pushing it back under the grip but that was all. We had to put up with this situation which was a danger to any guests both for trip hazard and fire safety, guests would find it very difficult getting out of the room in a hurry.    The weekend was War Weekend for Alford, bunting in the square and a full size Spitfire replica. Menu at The Windmill was 1940s theme served in breakfast bowels Not even enough for a child portion, the evening meal of Lasagna was also served in a breakfast bowl which looked like a dogs dinner, have to say we were not the only guests to complain.

On entering the hotel,our first inclination was to walk back out but we had booked with another couple so decided to stay
The reception area is dingy,untidy,and in need of refurbishment 
Off-putting rather than welcoming 
The carpet to the rooms looks old and not sure if clean
Our rooms were on the second floor so quite a climb up the stairs
The room was a good size and was clean 
The white towels had been laundered but were grey and needing replaced 
The bed was comfortable 
Unfortunately the windows,dirty on the outside, appear to be single-glazed,and there was noise from 5am as the weekly market was setting up 
The bathroom was OK size but there was a leak from the shower tray that left water all over the floor 
On the positive,the people were friendly and helpful, to the extent that when we couldn't get a taxi,the young lady from the hotel took us to meet other friends for dinner
Apparently taxis are very scarce and need to be booked well in advance 
And there is only one bus per week to Louth 
I'm sorry that I can't be more positive as they are very nice people 

Nice staff in a VERY VERY tired hotel

Stayed here for a couple of nights with the wife and kids lovely little hotel staff were very friendly and helpful we had one minor hiccup that we brought to their attention on the first night and the staff were more than helpful and apologetic would definitely stay again and the Indian restaurant downstairs was an absolute added bonus food was fantastic many thanks for our stay.

Little family trip

Stayed for work, and wasn't expecting much, its an Indian takeaway with rooms was the impression I got from reading some reviews. I pulled into the carpark, which was an ample size and secure with number plate recognition. I walked through the bar (a bit old fashioned) to the reception, and I wasn't particularly impressed, it was cheap and cheerful, then I met the staff, and I was blown away by the friendliness, and the charm, it was like being welcomed into a family, I booked in, the hotel was arranged by my employer because it was close to the project I was working on and I stayed for 3 nights. I was on the top floor (room 201), and this being an old listed building there was no lift, but the climb wasn't difficult, I found room to be a bit basic, but there was a kettle and a TV and a large bed and ensuite with a shower, the bed creaked and I wasn't expecting to get much sleep because of it. However it was immaculately clean and tidy.

I freshened up and went down stairs for some food, the menu was Indian (I am not really a fan) with a few English dishes, all very reasonably priced.

I ordered a pinto f lager and one of the chefs recommendations from the menu, a Tandoori Chicken Masala with a Keema nan and rice. the beer was lovely a very nice pint, and then the food arrived, and filled the table I was sitting on, was this all for me?
Wow, it blew me away, it was absolutely gorgeous, not hot(i dont like hot), very mild but absolutely full of flavour, it was some of the finest Indian food I have ever tasted, by the end I was stuffed but had to eat every morsel, I literally rolled my self back to my room. I had a shower and watched a bit of TV and got into the creaky bed, and slept like a baby, the bed was old creaky and I had a wonderful nights sleep, which mention to the staff the following day.

The following evening, I chose steak and chips, its was a reasonable size, cooked perfectly, well seasoned and came with a lovely coating of fried mushroom and onions, very nice indeed, followed by another great nights sleep.

My final evening, I though, push the boat out, I had the set meal for 1, I think it was £15, it consisted of 3 onion bhaji's, pilau rice, chicken tikka, a garlic nan, a poppadum and Bombay potatoes.
Well it just kept coming, I couldn't honestly believe the amount of food I got for the price, to say it was gorgeous is an understatement, the flavours just kept popping out, everything tasted fresh and was cooked to perfection, I have paid considerably more for less amount and lower quality, it really was restaurant quality and then some, my compliments to the chef.

Throughout my stay I was made to feel welcome, nothing was too much trouble, the water was always hot for a shower, the room was spotless, the bed was old and comfortable and I would gladly stay here again, however the food was the icing on the cake, I envy the locals, and its changed my perception of what good Indian food should taste like.

Surprisingly Good

Nice family hotel with friendly staff in a picturesque village. Our room was spacious and  clean with a large tv.
The Indian restaurant within the hotel serves top notch food and in-house pub is nice to chill out in at the end of a long day.
Alford is very nice, lots of craft stores to explore, places to eat and only a 15 minute drive to the coast.

Value for money

Stayed here with husband 7th (sunday) September. Room was unclean , toilet was dirty husband had to clean with toilet brush !! We looked elsewhere if we had not been going to tattersall lakes the following day we would have gone home ! Outdated and unclean !! We stayed here as it was a present with buyagift.com will not return or reccomend....
Will say the restaurant inconjunction with the hotel was excellent and the lady who served us was lovely!
