Cheap and cheerful, the hotel is awaiting a massive renovation but can't at the moment due to the protection of wildlife around the area, so when they are given the greenlight I can only imagine how amazing it'll be. However the room rates are low at the moment because they know they need a little TLC. But that's not why I gave it a five star rating, the staff are so warm and welcoming and a huge credit to the hotel. From check in to check out what a lovely, friendly and helpful bunch of people! A big thank you to them, especially those working on the 18th Oct when I checked in. The surrounding area and wildlife is also a massive attraction, loads of walking routes and very tranquil.

Good value stay.this hotel is about to be demolished in favour of Glamping Pods and sustainable activities but in the meantime grab a bargain in this clean and comfy hotel. There’s a few quirks, bathroom and toilet are separate in the room with the toilet so small the door is in the way, but the room is comfy with triple Ned’s in each, a very small tv but functional all the same. As an ex golf club dining facilities are interesting and be prepared to share a table. The hotel is in the middle of nowhere so is the only dining option available. The food is excellent but there are no starters or desserts on offer, shame as a little more effort would have made this a perfect meal experience. Book direct, it seems cheaper than using booking.com etc

Good value with an odd quirk, sadly soon to close.

I recently booked a Sunday night play and stay break for myself and my wife. We played on the Sunday and the Monday and enjoyed a fabulous break at the golf course and hotel. As part of the deal we had an excellent 3 course evening meal with wine included, a substantial full breakfast and a very comfortable room in this excellent hotel. The whole deal came to just under £100 per person and was fully worth every penny.  Every member of staff be it golf course or hotel, went beyond their need to make sure we enjoyed our stay. It would be churlish to single anyone out as they were all so friendly and helpful, but my wife would want me to mention the chef whose personal attention to ensure her food choices were met and exceeded, took us both by surprise. This place is a gem and we will most certainly be going there again.

A short pay and stay break for 2

Enjoyed a 2 day golfing break with 31 friends, we took over the whole hotel. Staff were absolutely superb, nothing was too much trouble. Golf course is very challenging, no 2 holes alike and set in beautiful countryside.

Would highly recommend, absolutely unbelievable value for money.

Golfing Break With Friends

Really enjoyed overnight golf break with friends. The layout of the course was challenging in places but very enjoyable. A very peaceful location with open views to surrounding countryside. The food was better than expected for the price and our stay was overall excellent value for money.

Great golf break

Just returned from an excellent ladies golfing group overnight stay at Farthingstone.       Fantastic value for money.    It was clean, very well run, the food was excellent and the  staff could not have been more helpful prior to and during our visit.   The setting is delightful and the golf course is  very varied, quiet, with wonderful views.   Thank you.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay!

My wife and I have just returned from a 3 night golf break at what is a tremendous little gem, set in tranquil surroundings and served by outstanding staff and courteous caring members.
Mike, the worldy experienced  pro and assistant were a pleasure to chat with and nothing was too much.
The course, although undergoing some seasonal work was still a pleasure to play and will be more so with time. Testing, pretty, tricky and tranquil, with no pretentions, great to play.
The lodge/hotel is simple, clean and does the trick with a fine breakfast and evening selection, in lovely surroundings and the most courteous staff and management.
Can't believe the negative reviews, that do not tell the real story, thankyou once again from Linda and Chris P, Dover Kent.

Golf Break to relax, thank you

Before I get started just want to say the staff are brilliant here and will do anything to help you. The rooms are dated and haven't changed in years, the bathroom shower curtain was absolutely disgusting it was covered in mould at the bottom, cobwebs all over the place. Beds are uncomfortable and pillows are dismal so take your own pillows. Sadly won't be going again due to this.

Also we ordered food and asked for 2 steaks to be well done, well, well done was just burnt to a crisp, ordered 1 medium well and that was just as burnt as the other 2. 

Rooms are in desperate need of modernisation

Very basic, unclean rooms

Just returned from a two night golf break at Farthingstone. For the price you pay you can not fault this place. 

The bedrooms are clean and spacious in our room we had a 3quater and a single . The room also had a separate toilet and bathroom..

Both the evening meal on both nights and the two breakfast were of very good quality and were served quickly. All the staff at the hotel were very helpfull and friendly.

The hotel in places is looking  bit tired but this in no way affect our enjoyment. 

The golf course is a  challenging par 70 and the tee boxes fairways and greens were all in great condition .

I wouldn’t Hesitate to return to Farthingstone even if you didn't use the golf for £200 for two night dinner bed and breakfast 4 pints of beer you can't go wrong.

Great 2 night golf break

I had high hopes for playing golf at Farthingstone especially at £25 a round, however what I found was a utter disappointment.
 
Starts of with the drive up, the driveway is cracked and broken so much so there are sharp edges sticking out, which could potentially do some damage to an unsuspecting driver. 

I was then greeted with a very dreary looking building, after eventually finding the entrance (signs are limited) we (playing with 2 other friends) checked in at the pro shop, this was the best part of the day, the guy on the desk was very friendly and gave us some info on the course. Unfortunately with the weather one of the holes was closed however no concession was offered for this.

I also found it incredibly annoying that while we checked in early and we were told we could tee off whenever, when we went to practice we were told that we needed to tee off straightaway as there were people behind, even though it was 20 mins before our tee time.

The course itself is incredibly narrow, you’re usually in range of getting an errant golf ball heading your way and judging by others etticate their weren’t many shouts of fore (not the clubs fault) just poor lay out.

The greens are (to be blunt) awful, with lots of moss on them combined with uneven speeds and poor drainage.
Speaking of drainage, the whole course doesn’t handle it well with all the fairways completely sodden, almost unplayable.

However the two most frustrating thing about the course is the lack of signs to guide to the next tees (although a map is on the paper thin scorecard) and even worse is the lack of defined pathways, we had to trudge our trolleys through the mud (a lot of them uphill) to where the presumed next tee was. This cumulated with one of my friends slipping on a hill and injuring his hip and back.

All in all, one of the poorest conditioned courses I’ve played which is a shame and at £25 pounds, it is expensive for what you get.
