We went there for our weeding anniversary and we had a great time - the castle is quirky and faboulous - the view from the battlements was spectacular we stayed in the lairds bedroom great place to relax in and the bathroom is awesome   - we intend to come back when the weather is better covid permitting.



Wedding Anniversary

If you want to stay in a castle that really feels like a medieval stronghold, look no further.  The rooms in the barrel vaulted ground floor have rough stone walls with arrow slits (glazed) for windows.  They are spacious and very tastefully decorated with just the right amount of props and a separate sitting lounge that is shared with the other room on the ground floor.  The doorways are low so one tends to develop a hunched over walk when moving between the bedroom, toilet and lounge.

There are other areas the guest can use to sit and relax - indoor and outside - including access to the battlements (4 floors up) accessed by a spiral stone turret staircase.  The view over the Firth of Clyde is wonderful. 

Kim, the proprietor, is friendly and helpful.  We had to catch a ferry early the day we left and she volunteered to do fruit pots for breakfast and left them in the fridge the night before.

(Didn’t meet the resident ghost though!  Maybe next time)

Tastefully quirky

Stayed here 2 nights in the lairds bedchamber for our 11th wedding anniversary anniversary and all I can say is wow the castle is unbelievable and the room or should I say suit is unbelievable you have a whole 1st floor to urself. The
 breakfast in the great hall is amazing with
 gorgeous scrambled egg loads of streaky
 bacon and back bacon mushrooms haggis black pudding and sausage
Thank you for making our anniversary so special 
Had a bottle of procesco in our room as a gift for our anniversary 

Wow wow wow 

Such an excellent find for our mini break to Wemyss. From start to finish the whole experience was excellent. The rooms and grounds are exquisite and hosts fantastic. Breakfast was exceptional. Simply cannot fault it. Thankyou so much Kim and Maria for sharing your Castle with us. Highly recommend.

Castle in the Hood😉

We stayed her for my birthday in the Lairds Bedchamber. Wow, it was an amazing experience. I felt like I had stepped back in time. Our hosts have done a fantastic job in renovating this Castle, right in the middle of suburbia. Every little detail is a delight. The Lairds room was huge, very authentic looking with an amazing modern ensuite. Breakfast the next morning was great and again all the little details in the room kept you looing in every direction.

Such a Cute Little Castle

For our last night in Scotland, I wanted to stay at a castle.  We arrived at the castle and were able to leave our luggage inside while we took a train to Glasgow.  The castle is conveniently located near the train.  Upon returning, we talked to the owner about our need to leave early to get to the airport to return our car and check in before our 10:30 a.m. flight back to the U.S. She informed us that breakfast was at 8:00 a.m. We indicated that we would probably need to leave earlier than that in order to get to the airport.  No mention was made to provide us with fruit and a muffin to take with us.  So we paid a bed and breakfast  rate and only got the bed.  It was very disappointing. So if you are leaving the castle before 8:00, do not stay here or you will be losing money on your accomodation.   Also, no printer available to print boarding passes.

Don't stay here if you have to leave early

We started our tour at Castle Levan and loved it.  However, it is out of the way, so be prepared to spend money on taxis.  Also, dragging your luggage up the winding staircase is problematic (they warn you about it).  Loved the view from the battlement.  Kim was a wonderful host.  A bit treacherous in wet weather, not good for the handicapped.

Nice Place to Stay

For our family's first ever trip to Scotland, something my dad has wanted to do for forever, a castle stay was at the top of our list. Castle Levan did not disappoint. We had the bottom floor two rooms, which were fantastic. Our group ranging from 17 to 74 loved every aspect of this visit-we were in a castle and couldn't have asked for more.  The views from the battlements out onto the firth were amazing. There is also an amazing waterfall on the property, and one night we went to the coop and got cheese and crackers to eat on the side-porch (American term). Lots of space for us to utilize outside of our rooms. The great room for breakfast was fantastic--imagining the history that happened there! The breakfasts were delicious, the hosts fantastic, and the town is really adorable. We drove into town for a fantastic dinner one night and walked around bit to take in the views, and then the next day took the easily accessible train into Glasgow for shopping and sight-seeing. I highly recommend Castle Levan--it set the bar for our first ever trip to Scotland and we've already recommended it to friends!

You want a castle stay? This is it!

Pros: 
1. A unique experience in an authentically restored castle with battlements.
2. We imagined ourselves living 500 years ago surrounded by stone - no motte and bailey here. I stood as knight overwatch while my wife had a blissful bath in the clawfoot bath.
3. Well appointed rooms with good amenities.
4. Good Scottish breakfast.
5. Fantastic internet.

Cons:
1. Location is not near major Scottish sites and requires a car to get to. The castle is in the middle of suburbia. However once inside, the exterior world disappears.
2. Limited access to the "Great Hall" was disappointing. Whilst breakfast was served in the great hall, the hosts could have offered access to the great hall for evening or welcome drinks. Otherwise, all you have is your room, which is fine for one night but no more.

Recommendation: Do it for one night. Take your Knight or Damsel and immerse yourself in the apocrypha of your anachronism.

A fun experience that could be better

Now I can tell my friends we stayed in a castle!  Totally medieval and moody, we had a great time at Castle Levan. Kim and Maria were excellent hosts, gave us a great tour of the castle itself and although there are only 3 guest rooms, it's a great place to stay if you want something a little different. Great beds, yummy breakfast and the sunset view from the ramparts can't be beat.  Don't let the residential location fool you - walk through the gate and you are seriosuly back in Game of Thrones times. We totally enjoyed our stay at Levan, a castle the FELT like a castle!
