Booked the place for a Sunday Roast lunch. Really excited and looking forward to it. I have 3 years old twin, on the day one of my twins was not well. She was just not herself. Very exhausted and agitated but no temperature. My husband call the restaurant to explain the unfortunate situation and cancel but to our greatest surprise there was no understanding. We were not offered to rebook or cancel. We were informed that we will be charged £36 per person if we don’t turn up and even if we manage to go we MUST order 4 full set menu. Two 2 full courses for my 3 years old twins!!!

We obviously left with no choice but to go and sit there and eat. In their maximum effort they offered us £22 kids size roast instead of £39 full size. It was at least something. By the time we left the place my daughter had developed temperature and her COVID test came as positive later that night. I felt so bad for those sitting close to us in that tiny restaurant as some of them looked quite vulnerable. 

Very disappointing experience overall. Food is Ok far from Michelin star with drops of gravy on the plate and if you ask for more you will be charged! 
Please just do yourself a favour and have your roast elsewhere with the option to cancel if you or a family member get sick. 

It look like the only thing the owner and management care there is MONEY and nothing else.

My Birthday Weekend …At long last we managed to get a table for Sunday Lunch… we were not disappointed the food was absolutely fantastic and the staff were friendly and very knowledgeable about each dish on the menu, it’s not that often I can’t find fault with any part of a meal( having spent the last 40 years in the hospitality industry and a qualified chef) but on this occasion the meal and service  was absolutely fantastic.

Sunday Lunch …….

Six of us visited the Silver Cup in Harpenden for Sunday lunch with great expectations of a Michelin listed restaurant but we were disappointed.  Although the starters were delicious, the main courses were not. The sirloin beef was difficult to cut and tough to chew. The suckling pig was not of high quality and was mainly stuffing. We complained. Alternative dishes were not made available to us but we were not charged for the main courses. There were some good points about the restaurant (wine, starters and desserts) but we were very disappointed about the main courses. The service initially was good but as soon as we complained it deteriorated. The final blow was that our coats were left in a pile by the exit.

Just an update as I have written previous glowing reviews of this restaurant.  My Partner had booked online but then as we thought we hadn't received a confirmation email we booked elsewhere.  On the day my Partner received a text to say that we had not turned up and we would be charged a £70 fee.  On checking his junk mail my Partner did find the confirmation email but to say we feel stung is an understatement.  Most Service organisations that use an online booking service have an auto-send text the day before reminding you of your booking.  This would have been far more useful than a text on the day saying we had been charged £70.  We're now in 'avoid' mode until the sting wears off.

Watch out for the cancellation fee......

Six of us stayed there earlier this year. Unfriendly staff, and very tired room, beds uncomfortable heating in one room couldn’t be turned off. And windows couldn’t be opened, plus many more grips.
Don’t stay there!!

Having booked restaurants (globally - including Michelin star restaurant)....I echo my wife's words which is the treatment before hand was appalling.  You may want to consider training people on telephone manner...understand you are busy.  That does not forgive a poor attitude.

Menu limited (bread classed as a course!!). Manager said no alternative - had got food in especially for us!! Fish tasty but attitude would mean I wouldn’t return and would recommend others don’t visit

We were a team of four for lunch . It’s a set menu with a choice today of fish or chicken. The fish was either plaice or monk fish . 
First course duck ravioli with a clear soup . Very tasty . All the main dishes were superb. As was the pudding , a sort of chocolate bomb with delicious jelly ….Best meal in a long time . Thoroughly recommend this delightful restaurant

The food was amazing, the service was excellent. 
Better than any meal I've had in London.

The birthday fell on a Sunday so a roast lunch for everyone was inevitable. We'd heard the food here was remarkably good but at Sunday lunch time the menu is shortened. There is still excellent fish as a main course. The pint of prawns as a srarter was a great success. There were mixed feelings about the other starters but we all chose one.

The point is they serve roast beef with Yorkshire pudding and all the trimmings, prepared with flair and to a very high standard. The meat is soft, and pink as it should be. 

A far cry from the usual pub roast served at Sunday lunch time.

It's worth going just for that course.

Wine is served by the glass so no worries about drinking and driving.

We were told that from Friday to Saturday evening the menu offers much more to choose from, so we'll go back on a Saturday lunch time.

Always book. We arrived at 12 and by 1.30 all the tables in the small airy restaurant were full of happy diners.
