Had a lovely one night break at this beautiful hotel. Really exceeded all expectations in every area; lovely room, comfy bed and wonderful breakfast. The decor is tasteful throughout and all the staff were very helpful and accommodating. Can’t believe the official rating is only a 3 star, should be at least 4 stars. Thank you. 

Wonderful stay at a lovely hotel 

I stayed during most of the autumn as was working locally. A really great little hotel with excellent food. Yes some of the rooms are small but were actually very cosy, well equipped and spotlessly clean. Thank you to all the staff including all the Emma’s, Kate, Ellie and Michael.

Great little hotel.

We had a family meet up for Christmas. We was put in the snug room. 2 tables for 16 of us. The food was nice , and service was excellent. All the staff was very friendly and helpful.  My wife and I stayed the night in one of the guest. Very nice room. Hot shower was very nice. Tea and biscuits was provided. Nice English breakfast in the morning. . Was more than satisfied with this pub/ hotel.

Excellent Stay! We spent one night in Hertford and couldn’t ask for a more comfortable and cozy accommodation. The staff were friendly and helpful. And the restaurant and bar were great! Definitely recommend.


Great Stay in Hertford 

Lovely building with a wealth of history,  Great staff.
However the experience is ruined by the volume they play the music at.
We politely asked if they could turn it down a bit, but we were politely informed that they couldn't as they were told by "head office" it had to be maintained at a minimum decibel level. We were also told that "head office" would visit to check that the minimum decibel level was adhered to, and if it wasn't they would get in to trouble.
I would love to know who at "head office" makes these policy decisions and what their reasoning is. Such a shame. 

Reduce the music volume please

Refurb has been done really well & the pub niwbhas a new lease of life. Restaurant is great. Food was lovely. Our waitress Libby was excellent - extremely courteous & very engaging. Will be back again . 

Great food, refurb is fab!

The renovation has been very successful in updating the facilities without losing any of the unique character and charm. The bedroom was terrific and the bars are clearly very popular. The young staff were friendly, courteous and accomplished.

A most pleasurable stay!

What should have been a pleasant experience on Saturday, 28th January 2023, turned out to be an extremely disappointing evening.
We were impressed by the lovely refurbishment and have to say it is beautifully decorated with seemingly no expense spared.
Unfortunately, things turned sour once we had been seated as we could hardly hear ourselves speak because the tables had been positioned so close together.  Good for your business I know, but for the customers, it was very made difficult because we had to shout across the table to make a conversation.
It took 40 minutes before the waiter came to take our drinks order and following this we decided to request our food at the same time as we didn’t want to wait another length of time before eating.
My friend and I ordered the turkey dinner and requested that the gravy come in a separate jug with our meal.  When this arrived, the gravy was covering the meal which was not what we had requested.  We asked for it to be replaced and an apology was made.  When the new meal was provided it was barely warm and we had to ask the waitress if she would mind getting it re-heated.  Again, an apology was made and to make it right we were offered the two meals free of charge.  I would also like to mention that the Brussel sprouts were not cooked and could not be eaten.
On finishing our meals, it took one of the team 1.5 hours to ask if we would like another drink.  Also, we were not offered the dessert menu and had to ask for it. When the desserts arrived, they were definitely not up to the usual standard prior to the refurbishment.  They were always homemade and the best around for miles.  My husband ordered the apple crumble, and this again, was always first class, however what was served up was very poor standard, almost inedible and it certainly didn’t resemble the apple crumble that used to be provided.  The lemon meringue pie was extremely disappointing, and it was evident that they had both been frozen and mass produced in a factory.  We felt for a dessert costing £7 plus should have been much more satisfactory than we had received.
The Salisbury was always our favourite place to eat and over the years my family and friends have eaten in the bar and restaurant on many occasions, including special birthday celebrations etc.  
I know things change over time, but the prices are now exorbitant along with a huge decrease in portion sizes and standards alike.
I am not one to complain but I have the say that the service received was very disappointing and sadly after all the years of frequenting this lovely establishment, feel we will not be returning any time soon.

Extremely Disappointing visit since refurbishment - food very poor

We visited for my brothers birthday. A table for 5 was hard to find due to demand, but the team moved us from 2 tables of 4, to a 5 in the restaurant. 
The food was 3/5, the service was 5/5. Emelia was FANTASTIC. 
The refurb is amazing, the service was spot on, but the food not so…
Need to establish yourselves in the kitchen to earn 5/5. Keep going!

Great service, lovely vibe, shame about the food.

Had a lovely Sunday lunch, Pork cooked well but very minimal on the potatoes and vegetables. Was let down further by the Apple crumble desert. Very poor. Very tough to eat, cored out baked apple, small dribble of custard and very small helping for £7.50. Wouldn't choose this again. A lovely environment but some improvement to do.
