Having never visited this inn before, we weren’t sure what to expect. But we were pleasantly surprised in every way. Nice room, quiet and warm, matched the warmth and friendliness of the staff. 
Thoroughly recommended.

Lovely place, well run, friendly and relaxing

We have just spent Christmas 2023 at this hotel with two other family members.  Never having stayed there before I was a bit hesitant but all fears were quickly dispelled.  The staff were very friendly and helpful.  The hotel itself was well decorated and the bedroom and en-suite were both spotless.  The food was great.  Our only criticism was the mattress which was a bit lumpy.  Hungerford is very pretty at Christmas with lots of lights up through the Main Street.  The walk along by the canal is a treat with several narrow boats but best wear wellies. We will certainly visit again.

The Three Swans is located towards the top of the High Street and is perfectly situated for the emporiums, shops and eateries of Hungerford. 
We arrived early having decided to leave our cases before taking an exploratory wander ahead of check in at 3pm. We can only assume that they were short handed as we were completely ignored for quite some time before we forced the stop of one lady who said that someone would be at reception at 3pm. We confirmed that we knew check in was 3pm and asked to leave our cases. She told us to wait and continued with serving some tables.  At one, we heard her telling the guests that we were far too early, the room wouldn't be ready until 3pm and we would have to wait. 
She did come back, told us how little room they had to store cases, took them and put them in the back office. 
We stayed in one of the rooms at the back of the hotel. Lovely and large,  beautifully decorated, warm and very comfortable. It was an accessible room and we understand that it needed to be as clear as possible should a wheelchair user require it but still found it very odd that there was absolutely no provision made for luggage. We put up the ironing board for one case and used the dressing table for the other. Not ideal at all! 
Also, we didn't need it but there was no chair in the shower should anyone require it.
Breakfast was of a very high quality with a good choice of food. The only suggestion we would make would be to leave a carafe of water with the juices.
We ate elsewhere in the town on our first night and had a lovely meal in a very festive atmosphere. The second night when we ate at the Three Swans was sadly lacking in atmosphere so immediately felt like a lesser experience. The food was lovely and service good but we were not placed in the main body of the pub (it was busy but not packed) and were initially led to the furthest table right beside the entrance to the toilets. We asked for a different table at which we had a chair that had been absolutely soaked, we guessed with a spilled drink, which we exchanged ourselves!
All in all a great location, a lovely room if a little lacking, good quality food and in the main, good service let down mainly by the first lady.

Good location for visiting Hungerford

This place has gone down. Reserved a table as my sister and myself were travelling a distance to see each other. When we arrived we were not expected and they took a table off a long stretch table for us. Then presumably we had not been allocated a waitress and spent the whole time going backwards and forwards to ask what was happening with our meals, drinks etc. We first visited a couple of years ago and then every few months. However we have noticed a marked deterioration in service, quality of food and actually having the food to serve.
We are looking elsewhere now.

Came across Three Swans by chance . 
Arrived not knowing what to expect but was delighted from the first step in . Lovely decor in the Public rooms . My room 110 was a great size , super fabrics and soft furnishings . Bed was very comfortable. Bathroom was vast , only comment would be the bathroom could do with heating . But it didn’t detract from my stay . I had a light dinner which was very good . 
There are some major chains that could take a leaf out of this Hotel company’s books .

Unexpected stay but what a delight

Used this hotel as a base to visit Highclere Castle. It is very well located on the high street with reasonable priced parking nearby. Service was very good and the hotel had a nice buzz throughout the day. Room was very good with all the normal amenities that you would expect.

Arrived too early for check in at 3pm so sat in one of several seating areas and had a glass of wine. Very warm welcome, staff very pleasant and hard working led by manager Sam - they were obviously short staffed but multitasking well.Really nice decor and all very clean with lots of choice of seating areas.
Our room was 101 on the first floor,a good few steps to negotiate but a really nice room - immaculately clean,nicely decorated with good sized bathroom with bath (which was a bonus for me- as I love my nightly bath) also nice products.
We had evening meal and breakfast here - excellent quality produce, good menu choice and reasonably priced.Its obviously a very popular place with locals and visitors as it was constantly busy which gives it a nice feel.
Good parking around the back of the hotel, also dog friendly.
The only negative is that we couldn't pay in cash - everything was card, which I hate ! (I am aware it makes it easier for everyone not having to handle cash but surely it should be an option - money is money at the end of the day.

Lovely stay in a lovely friendly hotel

We stayed overnight on a dinner bed and breakfast deal, booked direct with the hotel. Lovely spacious room with a large ensuite bathroom and a comfortable bed for a great night's sleep. The evening meal was excellent, and so was the service. A good selection of choices for breakfast, all freshly cooked to order. Thank you to Sam and his team. for ensuring our stay was PERFECT. We have already booked another night's stay next month.......see you again soon.

We had a great stay at the Three Swans. Had a couple of days break away and would recommend it so all my friends. S
taff are so jolly and helpful. 
Breakfast was so yummy and we will deffo be visiting again.
Why have i put 4 stars when we had such a great stay. 
Room clean and comfortable.
We do understand that the Hotel is really really old but the floor boards were so noisy they woke up my husband when i went to the loo. Also street noise was heard through the really old sash windows even though there was secondary double glazing. Bathroom had a leaky tap that seemed to be getting worse though i have got to be honest i forgot to tell reception before we left. So if you don,t want to be disturbed when sleeping don,t have a room at the front of the Hotel.
If it dosen,t bother you then gr8.

Worth the pennies, we will be deffo going back : )

I'm a regular visitor to the Three Swans which always hits the spot. The rooms are comfortable, the breakfasts are freshly cooked and the Winter offers are extremely good value. The only minor criticism on this visit was that the policies and procedures for service of alcohol to residents of the hotel are a little confused. Most hotels of this quality are usually able to offer residents the opportunity to enjoy a nightcap after hours. On this occasion it proved difficult and whilst the waitress serving behind the bar was somewhat intransigent, her colleague was more accommodating which confused the other guests
