Strand House is a perfect little gem in the quaint historic small town of Winchelsea.  Alex and Kelly, the new owners, have meticulously restored this old house, with love and care.   Attention to detail with beautiful little touches wherever you look.    Being a charactful 600 year old house ceilings are low - head beware if a taller person.   But this was more than offset by a cleverly designed  room which was spotlessly clean and very comfortable.

A delicious breakfast (wide choice of options) was served looking out to the garden.

Alex and Kelly were very warm and welcoming and nothing seemed to be a problem.  They went out of their way to make my stay as comfortable as possible.  They succeeded.

They recommended places to visit and the local pub, the New Inn, which is a short walk away and served an excellent variety of good food.

I recommend staying here.   If in particular you like quirky, historic, character places accompanied by friendly and welcoming staff, then I very highly recommend a stay here.  I can’t wait to return……

A beautiful little gem

Had an amazing stay at this beautiful house recently refurbished by present owners Alex and Kelly who go above and beyond to make your stay so welcoming. Room we had very quaint and 5 star for cleanliness.  Lovely hot shower and powerful and fluffy towels. The reception  is very inviting with an honesty bar and comfortable seating and lovely little cast iron fire. Good choice of breakfast , delightful dining area with classical music playing. Thank you to Alex and Kelly and good luck in the future with your venture.  Will definitely be returning soon if you have availability . Cheryl

Just returned from a lovely stay at Strand house .

Lovely stay

A fantastic stay and hugely comfortable room. We were beautifully looked after and, in the morning, breakfast was as good as you'd expect. 

We particularly enjoyed the fact that we could get a bus into Rye from right outside Strand House (£2 a single) and the last bus back on Saturday night was perfectly timed. All in all, we could not recommend a stay there more highly

Strand House - a wonderful venue

Strand House is a charming property and we would highly recommend a visit.
Alex and Kelly are extremely welcoming hosts and clearly are passionate about Strand House and want everyone to have a fantastic experience staying, it is beyond the normal BnB experience.  
The rooms are stunning and charming; with low beams, white washed walls, quality bed linen and pillows.  Alex and Kelly worked hard to renovate it and have restored it to a high standard, the beds are comfy and the bathrooms are modern.  We had a lovely quiet nights sleep.
For dinner it's a short walk to a local friendly pub with great options, we would definitely recommend the Moroccan lamb.
Breakfast at The Strand was excellent; high quality produce, veggie options, as much coffee as we wanted, and served with a smile.
The town of Winchelsea is charming and worth a visit.
We felt lucky to be one of the first guests to stay after all the renovations, and would definitely recommend for a romantic break away.
We will be returning.

Romantic night away

What a treat staying in a B'nB that is 600 years old, this is a very quaint place with lovely clean rooms, be careful though of the low doorways and ceilings!!  Breakfast is served in a lovely room overlooking the garden, there is a buffet and also you can order off the menu, it was delicious.  Would highly recommend if you are in the area.

Lovely accommodation

Charming old building but no service or help available. We had a two night stay. Our room was not cleaned and our bed not made, nor were clean towels provided. When we queried this we were given a sarcastic answer from the owner that we should have reported this! How could we when we only saw this on our arrival back to the room at 10 p.m. and no one was around.  No apology from the owners. Due to the bad service we asked for a price adjustment from the owner, which he declined saying that we should have reported this earlier.  We said that this may result in a bad review, his response being, "I don't care about that, I get plenty bad reviews" Suitcases had to be dragged up a narrow steep flight of stairs and no one to assist, in fact our friends had to leave their suitcase in their car and unpack from there. Extremely hot weather and we were told that there was no fan available. Our bathroom was dirty with remains of the previous person's toothpaste on the wall. The toilet seat was loose. Access to the shower so narrow that if you're slightly overweight, you will not get in.

VERY DISSATISFIED STAY

The rooms in the cottage were beautifully decorated with balconies and views of nature. The main house is very corny and also beautifully decorated. The breakfast was good and friendly enough staff Unlike other B&Bs visited, the contact with the owners was not so good, as they were not present until check-in.

Uriges B&B - Old English style

Enjoyed a weekend here in April, close to Winchelsea and Rye beaches. Lovely staff. Only downside was the small car park when other guests parked inconsiderately. A staff member recommended The Queen's Head in Icklesham where we enjoyed dinner on both nights (dog friendly of course).

This is a lovely little guesthouse, full of charm and character. It’s not cheap, but perfect for a one off treat. 
We arrived around 7pm, and at first thought the place was closed. It was very quiet! We were greeted by a pleasant young lady who explained everything very efficiently. It’s a very cozy and homely place. It’s an old house, so probably not best suited for very elderly or infirm guests, or anyone with a disability. Our room was the cheapest at £95 for the night, but was perfectly pleasant. The bathroom / shower room had a very low ceiling height and very little room for manoeuvrability once inside. It was tiny! 
There’s a very cozy communal living room / snug which has a bar and an ‘honesty box’ for you to put money into. A lovely little touch..
Parking in the grounds of the house is free. There are tea and coffee making facilities in the room, and with complimentary shortbread cookies. The breakfast was especially good. The lady serving was quite brilliant - friendly, charming, efficient and extremely obliging. We got the distinct impression that the owners have employed people to run the hotel for them. Not a bad thing in this case, as both staff members we dealt with were outstanding. If you’re looking for something a little different, quirky and quaint then this is the place for you if you can appreciate very low ceilings, very steep stairs, tiny doors, and not a straight wall in sight!
