They welcomed us in the morning and made a separate saloon available for us and catered really well for all of us  including our friend who is a wheelchair user. Nothing was too much trouble and the Sunday lunch and other food was lovely. Also provided a lovely vegan lunch. Thank you

Friends’ trip - lovely lunch and overall experience

Surprised to see bad reviews, but my guess is they have taken them on board.  All.the food was very good, and I know my food!!! Burgers were amazing, though they should stick to breiosh buns and not make homemade ones.  We had two starters as well, which were brilliant. I'd recommend anyone to revisit or give it a go.  

Very good homemade food 

Here for an evening meal and Karaoke evening.  The food was amazing, freshly cooked, hot and tasty. Our party had mostly fish and chips which had huge pieces of fish in crispy batter with a choice of mushy or garden peas. One of our party had the fish pie which was full to the brim with premium pieces of fish and was very filling. The lambs liver was also served to one of our party, it was cooked beautifully and the presentation was top class!  The karaoke was such fun, the songs varied and all there had a good time.  We would definitely recommend the sportsman’s for a great night out.

Great food and entertainment

My dog and I were made very welcome as we stopped on the Two Moors Way route. Lovely staff, very attentive. Food was great with gluten free and vegan options. Like other reviews, the room did smell of damp and alcohol. But we were tired after walking and the bed was comfy and clean.

Disappointing. The room smelt of damp. Decorations at least 2 decades out of date. It was clean but not nice in any way. Had the room been £50, it would be reasonable, but at £96, I feel way over charged for the  quality of  everything in the room.

Breakfast was quite good mind, so that’s a small plus.

Needs a lot of work.

The room was awful,ceiling had had a leak which had stained the headboard of bed.Holes in walls,bedroom and bathroom where things had fallen down.Shower trickled hot 1st morning.2nd morning unable to use,no hot water.Loo seat broken.Floor filthy with hair etc!!!!! Food not very good.Only had breakfast 1st day!!!!

Not happy! As basic cleaning not been undertaken.It was really awful compared to previous visits.

There were 13 family members and 1 baby in our party.  The owner Bill and the staff were very friendly and very professional.  Rooms were cleaned and replenished every day and were more than adequate for all our needs.  The meals where very good.  You had to order your cooked breakfast that was served to your table.  Toast, cereal, juice and coffee was self service.

Shops and take-aways can be found a short walk away from the inn.

The only problem we had was taxis.  We were going to my sons wedding at Dartmoor zoo and no taxis were available.  Thanks to Wayne of Ray's coaches we managed to get too and from the wedding.
I would recommend this accommodation and would like to thank the staff for making our stay a pleasant one.



Good food and accommodation 

Basic room but bed was clean and comfy. I think room was priced too high (£96 per room per night) for the quality. The full Devonshire breakfast was very tasty. Cereal, toast and juice were plentiful. Plenty of parking at rear. Traditional looking pub was well stocked but we didn’t have time to sample.

Good Breakfast and friendly staff

Very happy with our stay, we had comfortable room, soft bed ( most important) and the meals, both dinners and breakfasts were excellent. I would also like to praise the staff, who were very pleasant, efficient and helpful. Great time had by both of us.

Great weekend.

Spent a couple of nights in the four poster room. Really nice an spacious with its own little sitting area. The staff were really friendly and helpful and the food both breakfast and dinner very good. The hotel also has a large free car park which is always a bonus!
The only downside maybe is that we couldn’t pick up the Wi-Fi at all. Not something I would deduct a point for but perhaps a deal for some people. In all we really enjoyed our stay and will definitely be returning.
