The hotel was ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING! UNHYGENIC! SMELT REVOLTING! (ENVIROMENTOL HEALTH WOULD HAVE A FIELD DAY). zoom in photos to see the months/years of dirt/dust. Broken tiles. Stained carpet. Fallen dirty net curtain. Curtains are too small with curtain rings missing. Broken furniture. Yukky bits in confectionery box. Stains on bedding and towels. Mouldy shower, grubby wash basin, and toilet with years of dirt tucked behind. Broken tiles. The kitchen was even worse.
Booking.com cancelled via email my original booking (The silent Inn, Howarth) on the morning of my stay and after I had set off with two friends, who are also in their 60's. My husband booked this hotel as suggested by booking.com.

Disgusting 

Checked in at the  bar area seemed welcoming enough 

It went downhill fast we were taken to the residence stairs as soon as the door was open there was a very bad smell don't know what it was we were shown to our triple room the door didn't fit in the door frame looking down the landing none of them did one had about a inch and a half gap at the top.

In the room was horrible the carpet was like a 90s disco carpet  covered in all sorts of stains  the furniture was missing handles and dirty the beds looked like they were going to collapse 

The shared bathroom was also horrible and dirty and thanks the the person that didn't know how to flush or hit the target, the shower unit looks like frosted glass but it's not its just dirty 

After seeing that the shared kitchen I could not face 

I would strongly  strongly recommend not booking this place

I could not stay here and had to book elsewhere

Booked for my daughter and her friend  , she checked  in and messaged me to say it looked like a homeless shelter , it was dirty and she felt uncomfortable, she left after about an hour. I have since messaged them and booking. Com asking for a refund,  £ 7.50 back from booking but not even had a reply from the pub. It was only £50 but for two students that's a lot  , but saying that it doesn't matter how much a place costs it should be up to a certain level of cleanliness and comfort, disgusting 

Avoid,avoid,avoid !!!

Whole place stinks of pee in corridors by bedrooms. Music from bar till early hours of the morning.  Rooms dated and in desperate need of up dating. Fighting in the streets outside window. We were booked in for 2 nights but left after 1 night to a travel lodge. It is not fit for human habitation. Should not be on Booking.com. Amazing how it got so many good reviews on Booking.com. Was not fit for a dog to stop. Also they break the rules by charging to use a debit card in the bar.

Absolutely disgusting

Well, where do I begin?!….

The doors don’t fit the door frames; carpets are absolutely disgusting and stained in the bedroom. Out of the three beds to choose from, every one of them had issues!! from blood stains on the sheets to pubic hairs and makeup! The bases of the “white” bed frames were black! 

There were handles missing off of the chest of draws and the curtains didn’t close fully; so the outside lamp light shone through all night. It doesn’t end there…..

Around 2am the owners came up to their accommodation which was attached to the room we were in (With my seven year old son) and decided to have a massive domestic! Swearing, doors slamming for about an hour. 

As soon as the sun arose we got out of there as fast as we possibly could. 

What an absolute dive!

We set out to stay five nights in this place. We had a double room and the family room for our 2and 3 year old grandchildren and their parents.  The curtains in their room were half hung on one side and unable to be closed, outside was a crossing with a constant bright orange light all night that could not be shut out there was also a large crack in the window.  We were shown a kitchen we could use whilst staying there it looked ok.  When I looked in one of the fridges (there were a couple) it was absolutely disgusting and filthy I’m sure something was living in it.  The window frames in the kitchen were minging.  The bathroom was awful smelly and damp.  The double room had a bed with such a large dip in the middle it was impossible to sleep.  We left first thing in the morning telling the only available staff that it was totally unsuitable.  When we complained for a refund we got  two hundred pound out of almost six hundred for the problem with the bed! The manager has been most unhelpful and unyielding.  He is making money out of people because he runs a hovel and knows no person with any hygiene standards would be willing to stay there more than one night.  See attached pictures

Disgusting

Disgusting place bedding never seen a iron from new smell of urine on the passage nearly knocked you out in need of a very good overhaul in desperate need of new beds shower covered in body fat disgusting I couldn’t use it it was so bad and at £40:50 bed only not exactly cheep travel lodge down the road was only £43 room only x

Disappointed

Absoloute horrendous pub, probably the worst iv ever been to, id say its in a good need of a lick of paint but i think its more in need of a bulldozer!! Ps they break the law by charging for you to pay by card, id keep well clear of this place, unless you want to catch fleas or the bubonic plague!!

Evening drinks 

I was enjoying a lovely weekend away and we thought we would stay another night in a different location. The pictures looked okay and we thought it would do for the night. We arrived to a loud pub- fair enough. We were taken to our room and it was disgusting. We had to buy bedding because of how warn and horrible the place looked. The door wasn’t on straight the smell of smoke was horrible. Dusty smiley faces drawn on the window. The mattress was a state you fell in the centre of the bed due to no support and you could feel the springs. I felt dirty stopping there. The bathroom was shared and wallpaper mouldy and coming off. 
Loud music until 1am as in you could hear it  like you was in the pub. The fire alarm went off and no management came to check everyone was okay and that it was a false alarm. I couldn’t breath in the room because it was so dusty and every half an hour a foul smell came into the room. 
This place should not be called a hotel. 

Worst night ever 

Big old boozer - nothing wrong with that if you like that kinda thing. But it's not fit to call itself a hotel. The door leading upstairs to the rooms gives the game away for starters. Tatty, dirty and damaged. As we started walking up the stairs we immediately noted the strong smell of cigarette smoke. Someone - maybe more than one person, was chain smoking up there and the stench was acrid. We immediately complained - and pointed out smoking was illegal and against hotel rules. Nothing was done. The radiator in our room was on full blast and couldn't be regulated. It was warm outside and the room temp was stifling. The windows were locked shut - so you can imagine the atmosphere - smoky, hot and unventilated. Complained again - nothing.

It was late and we had nowhere else to go - so we suffered it for one night then called all the emergency numbers listed in the book - not one answered - some emergency system they've got going there! 

We cut our losses and bailed on in the morning - fully expecting the hotel to do a deal and refund us - eventually they offered us a one night refund - but quickly withdrew when we said that was't acceptable given the issues we experienced.

It's tatty, dirty, unkempt and to be honest not fit for purpose. If you're drunk and just need to get your head down and don't care - go for it. But do not take kids there...ever
