Lovely pub and very nice friendly staff.  But the food I ordered was appalling.

It was just slop served in a tin bowl.  It was on the specials board and described as a Winter Warmer.  I didn't know what it was.  IT came with a side of soggy vegetables which were clearly from a frozen packet.  Honestly the worst food I've ever had in a pub/restaurant.  Its such a shame because the pub is very special and the staff absolutely great.  If the food was amazing too, then it would be a great place to visit.

Lunch visit. A venue living on past reputation. Visiting on glowing recommendations, we were very disappointed. Our two lunches lacked flare. The steak pie had hard pastry and the meat was chewy. The pasta was bland with a dry chicken breast. Both dishes could have been hotter. Seating not good, we were pushed into a corner with no Christmas atmosphere. Shame, we will not be returning. Not considered to be value for money.


Not what we expected.

TLDR: Decent room, but operated by inexperienced staff, with many many irritations. Breakfast weird.
Long version: Wadworths do what they can to get under your skin. Every time you reopen your computer or phone, they want you to complete a survey (Which of these beers do you like?) You have to check in from home on the internet to avoid the check-in rush. (There are five rooms! You have to tell them your email address three times). Ditto check-out -- got a text before the breakfast service started to check out on line (yes, to avoid the checkout rush). 
We emailed in advance to ask if there was a/c -- my wife suffers with the heat. No response. We arrived and a young man "showed us to our room". I am 77 and was finding it a struggle to get the luggage up the stairs. No help offered.
There was going to be karaoke, as well as live rugby on the tv. I asked if we could have a quiet table for evening meal. No problem, we agreed a particular table. Came down to the meal and there was another couple sitting there.
Full English breakfast: not wonderful. The (one slice of) toast was actually under the fry-up. No butter, no jam.  

Too many irritations

Fabulous stay at this lovely pub/hotel. The location was fantastic! The room was a good size with windows overlooking the front of the building.  There were complimentary bottles of water in the room as well as tea and coffee making facilities. The bed was very comfortable. The en-suite was small but modern and the shower was good. We ate in the pub in the evening and our meals were excellent. The same can be said about the breakfast which had a lot of choices. Staff are friendly and helpful. We would highly recommend a stay here in this beautiful village.

Fabulous stay in a beautiful location!

We had lunch here during a guided tour of the area and wow, were we impressed! They were grilling burgers outside on the BBQ and we decided to take advantage of the day. We both had the grilled burger and sides (slaw and potato salad) and the meal was awesome! I sampled some local beers and they were great! we love the Lacock Red Lion!

A Tasty Lunch

Definitely Cosy and Characterful! Whilst -9° outside, our room was cosy, the whole building is Characterful, as was, for me, mattress! BUT, hubby slept well! The food was amazing! We had Shrimp popcorn with Lobster mayo and Chicken Parfait, followed by Ham, Egg and chips (treacle glazed, yum) and Beef & 6x Ale pie, yes it was hubby's, but I did quality control 🤣 and it was excellent! I  topped off with Treacle Tart and Marmalade Ice Cream... no words!! The STAFF were amazing! Fully attentive and responded to all requests. Great village, great Inn and fantastic stay! Thank you Red Lion! A memorable stay! 🥰

Lacock, film set yes, but so much more!

We visited with friends and were made to feel so welcome. The rooms were in good decorative order and the quirkiness of sloping floors and sash windows added to the charm. The staff had great senses of humour and joined in a couple of lighthearted jokes and pranks among our party. A thoroughly relaxing break!

Relaxing and welcoming

We spent two nights here and found the pub comfortable and welcoming. The rooms are basic but clean and functional. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The food was tasty and good value for money. The breakfasts are substantial and set you up for the day. Our room had a lovely view of the town which is peaceful and quiet when the day trippers have left. An enjoyable stay

A warm welcome in Lacock

Stayed here as a last minute arrangement.  Really lovely.  Yes it's a bit tiered around the edges but the willingness of the staff and its location out weighs any internal design misgivings.  A bit of time and a planned maintenance programme will sort all of that under its new management.  😀 

Very nice stay

This used to be my favourite pub, we always had to visit when we visited the in-laws who live in the village… Well that’s sadly now over.

We prebooked a table on a Saturday night for 7:30 - came in & the pub was silent! Not greeted at the bar we had to wait whist the staff talked amongst themselves & then told to sit anywhere.
Took 20 mins to get drinks & have our food ordered, friend asked for no minted peas - still came all over his plate. 
Ordered dessert, took 3 times to order a sorbets as they had no idea what they had - the Eton Mess was ONLY CREAM on a huge plate!!!! 2 pieces of tiny meringue & 3 slices of tinned peaches! We complained & they took the plate, came back & had just chucked so much meringue on top & said ‘we haven’t just put meringue on the top’?!? Didn’t eat it, that is NOT healthy & should not be allowed to be sold. Then we were told this is what Eton Mess is like we were idiots.

Heartbroken as like I said this was our favourite pub & we raved about it, hopefully the management will change again so we can come back.

No locals, no other tables eating or drinking on a Saturday night so news must be spreading!
