Change of policy from previous management.
First let me say we love the Arundell Arms, we have stayed there a few times under both regimes, so do not want to appear overly negative.
However, we travel with our gundogs/ pets. Under the previous owners dogs were permitted in the main building, opening up the larger, more comfortable rooms to be available. 
The new policy is for dogs to be kept out of the main hotel’s rooms, leaving only the smaller less comfortable rooms in the annex.
Obviously it is up to the management how they want to run their establishment and all power to them.
Sadly due to the policy changes we will and have sourced other accommodation for our shooting trips, which is a shame, as the food and general convenience of the Arundell Arms are great.

Change of policy leads to finding pastures new.

I have to say that 4 scallop shells each with 1 scallop  engulfed in sloppy overpowering leek sauce (lots of leeks) for £31 is not my idea of fine dining. What happened to the lovely scallop dishes you used to serve!!

Only just signed up to this trip advisor to do a bad review of somewhere as I really think it needed but as I’m on here I must write one about this hotel in a much more positive light 

We were lucky lucky enough to stay a few nights here in the early start of the year and what a treasure it was

And a generally lovely place full of character and finished to a fine standard fully recommend it here especially if you are away on a sporting break

Faultless

We’re local to the hotel and enjoyed a lovely 3 course meal in the bar . The food was absolutely delicious and the attentive staff especially Amy and Bailey looked after us very well .
Would highly recommend a visit.

Lovely evening 

We stayed in the fishing lodge. Just awesome for 2 friends on a fishing trip. The house was clean, Spacious and very comfortable and complete. On arrival some basic necessary things, like, thee, coffee, milk, bread and marmalade were provided. The saf was very friendly. The guide,s from the fishing department are very helpful and a big thanks to Dave who guided us for a day and gave lots of tips and was very helpful. Definitely a great place to go.


Beyond expectation

There is nothing not to like about this hotel,very professional pleasant staff nothing is too much trouble for them. This was a birthday treat for a member of the family, all the staff made a point of wishing him a happy birthday.At the end of the meal a plate with two chocolates and a birthday message for him. It was booked with a fly fishing package ,the Ghillie that accompanied us was very knowledgeable worth every penny ! The food was incredible clean plates all round! The bedrooms were nicely furnished and the beds comfortable. We hope to return one day.

Birthday treat

Another splendid stay! A brief weekend getaway to relax and a bit of sightseeing. The ever helpful and unflappable Jess booked us in and had arranged a platter of sandwiches as we were stuck in traffic and so had missed dinner. A very comfortable bed, delicious breakfast on both mornings; the smoked haddock is an absolute delight with tonnes of toast, granola, fruit, yoghurt and pastries. Supper on the 2nd night was the best meal we have ever eaten here. Scallops and lobster ravioli was great for a starter but the mains were just perfect. The lamb melted in the mouth and the pork chop was simply amazing, I have never tasted anything quite like it. Luke gave excellent wine recommendations and looked after us as did the fabulous breakfast team and the marvellous Amy. Once again thank to everyone at this institution and look forward to seeing you all  again soon but with a fly rod in hand!

Thoughtful and understated, I adore this hotel.

Went for a birthday meal. Was greeted with a warm response from the receptionist but it was a contrast to the waiter / barman; very cold stern and a feeling of that he didn’t want to be there. 
Ordered food 
My starter was a lobster ravioli was pleasant could have used some seasoning as was abit bland but nicely cooked never the less. 
My partner had the soup, was also very nice but very oily on top from the garnish. 
Mains came I ordered the hake skin was soft and the “bandage” was flavourless mush wasn’t pleasant at all. 
My girlfriend ordered the broccoli steak it was half a broccoli cut in half chargrilled. Very clumsy and not very imaginative. 
Waited 25 mins after asking for the bill no one came so we went to the bar to settle 
Over all not very good wouldn’t go again sadly

Poor needs work both foh and boh

This hotel does not look very impressive from the outside and the bar inside is ordinary looking.  However on closer exploration it seems quite a gem with a varied outside terrace for eating and drinking as well as pleasant service and an impressive dining room.  A good place for a spot of relaxation particularly if you want to charge your Tesla in the car park.  Also full of fly fishing types and you can attend a course there if you wish.

Surprisingly pleasant

Stopped to charge the Tesla. Had lunch in the hotel. Was amazing. I am highly critical. This food here is highly recommended.

Accommodating on late arrival. Clean and well kept. 

Quintessential English atmosphere. 

Back again soon on the way back.
