I called to check what rooms were available. The reason I called ahead before booking was because I had stayed in this hotel before and wanted a room with a view over the city. I called and was told they had a cancellation and that I could have a room with a view. So I booked it. On arrival, they told me there had been a ‘mix up’ and put me in a room with no view at all. And it’s incredibly dark. Had I known this was the room they were going to put me I would never have booked it. It’s too late now for me to find something else.
I had been in contact with the hotel more than once today, they had ample opportunity to tell me they had changed my room but they chose not to. Now I’m stuck in a room I really don’t want to stay in.
To the owners - please don’t agree something with your guests and then ignore their request without telling them. People make requests for a reason.

Beautiful room in a beautiful B&B with lovely staff, 5 mins walk to Cathedral, Castle and Town, breakfast was so tasty, view from dining room fantastic, everything about this place is amazing! We will return.

First visit to Lincoln

If there was a 4.75 I would have given it. A comfy room, lovely staff and great cold breakfast with choice of hot eggs including omelette. The small reduction in points is because of the parking. Up a steep drive and then on a steep drive behind others and you might have to move to allow them to get out. Not easy although staff are helpful. You don't want to reverse along the drive to get out!! We are elderly so younger people might cope better as a lovely b and b in a fabulous location.

A Lincoln mini break 

We booked a one night stay here to visit Lincoln Castle and the cathedral. Perfect location, as they had a gate at the end of their garden which allowed easy access to all parts of Lincoln. Rooms were very clean and had everything we needed however very small, was quite tricky getting ready with two of us in the room due to lack of space. However the facilities in the room were great, we had a smart TV and tea and coffee! They offer a wide range for breakfast, and you order this the night before to allow them time to prepare. The latest time is 9.30 for breakfast. It’s a very small breakfast room meaning you sit on a table with others. Which was fine for us. However, a member of staff called in sick leaving them short staffed which resulted in me and my partner eating at completely different times and lack of organisation. We could also hear issues from other table which made the atmosphere very awkward but we understand this isn’t their fault. Just be careful if you drive a bigger car as my partner struggled to get in and out of the driveway as it’s very tight so I’d recommended making sure you check before arriving. It’s also very steep which resulted my partner scraping the front off his car. Overall a good stay just a few issues out of their control! 

Good location with few minor issues

The Populars is in a perfect position, 5 minutes walk from the old town where the castle and cathedral is.
 The hotel has parking available but very cramped, I got blocked in and had to find the owner so I could get out on the day we left. It is also on a VERY steep slope!
The room was spotless but rather small, with no place to store suitcases, no chairs. Tea/coffee supplied.
The bathroom was great, with a drench shower.
Breakfast was lovely, which you pre-ordered the night before but you have to share a dining table with other guests.
The staff were fantastic, nothing was too much trouble and they worked very hard.


Good location 

Hard one to review. It is an independent so I want it to thrive. The owner, Martin, also seemed really nice. I liked : 

The location. Fabulous for seeing the nice part of the city around the Cathedral and Castle. 
The friendliness of the owner. 
The breakfast was a solid 4/5 and I liked that it was mostly locally sourced produce. 
Milk in the fridge in the room. 
Lovely teas in the room from a local purveyor.
Nice and affordable mini bar and snacks in the room, 
The curated soaps and shower products. 
Clean.
Comfortable bed. 
The wifi works well too. 

I wouldn’t stay there again  though. Why? 

Despite directions. Difficult to find without a ‘co-pilot’. Satnav will not be your friend. 
Hair raising driveway . I have a wide car and I could not get in or out without guidance. I don’t like parking on the road, but that is available. Important to me, maybe not for you. 

I did not like my room or the decor of the B&B It is in serious need of modernisation. I might be fussy but it is not for me. It also smelt very mildly dank. 

Lincoln: the castle and cathedral are great. I wouldn’t want to spend more than 1/2 a day there though as the rest is distinctively average. It is also miles from anywhere and a drag to get to. (This was my second work trip). 

That said, if you are going , give The Polars a try if you decide to go because the location is great!

Difficult one.

The guest house is situated up the hill close to the castle and Cathedral.  There is limited parking but can be booked in advance.
The rooms are extremely comfortable with a large en-suite.
Breakfast was a huge range of cereals, yoghurt, pastries, omelettes, cheese and meat platters and almost unlimited toast with a large variety of jam.
I would highly recommend this place to you as a fabulous place to stay in Lincoln.

What a find

You can see why its popular from the initial  enquiry  to our departure the guest house wes exceptional  the owner  was professional  caring and it was blatantly  obvious  he wanted to give his guests the best possible time.the establishment  was absolutely  spotless  warm and comfortable. Breakfast  was extremely  varied   and generous and of the same high standard  parking  space  was valuable  asset and minutes away from quality  eateries and tourists to do lists.
A little taste of paradise nothing  negative  to review and definitely  one to remember  and recommend 

Positive  populars 

Location really good for visiting main attractions, although being Lincoln you have to accept some steep climbs.
Good welcome and gentleman orientated us with a map, and recommended some eateries.
Our room was fine, nothing exceptional. Mattress was a bit saggy in the middle.Fresh milk welcomed. I am sure that the nespresso and fancy teas are welcomed by some guests but coffee bags and packets of tea would suffice. No biscuits though.
We would have welcomed bed side lights rather than wall lights, as it was not possible to turn them off when laid in bed (string too short), had to get up to turn them off. Our room felt a little tired, not like some of the other rooms on the website.
Breakfast was good,nice selection of pastries and jams.
We were charged £10 for parking but not sure why, as no resident pass issued and we parked on premises.
We enjoyed our visit to Lincoln.

Good location

Brilliant location very close to the cathedral , castle and all the local shops bars and restaurants but also very quiet .
Lovely comfy fully equipped room .
All the staff were extremely friendly and helpful , a huge range of options for breakfast , all made with locally sourced ingredients .
Would highly recommend stopping here if you're visiting Lincoln.
