We had booked 2 double rooms at this hotel for 3 nights 24-26 October.
We arrived late afternoon and were surprised to see only 1 other car on the car park, we thought at that time of day it would be busier.
Initially we were quite impressed with what we saw in the reception area and across to what we guessed to be the dining and bar areas.
Since it was so quiet we commented that we would be getting the best rooms to be informed by Ian on reception that we were getting 2 of their better rooms.
If these 2 rooms were their better ones then we would not have liked to see their average rooms.
All rooms had similar issues. We tried 3 all together because the one had a pathetic hand held shower mixer instead of a wall mounted shower but this room had other problems as well.
With all 3 rooms as soon as you walked in there was a damp musty smell, the general look of the rooms was dirty and tired. Carpets looked worn and grubby, furniture that had seen better days, one room had a wardrobe with makeshift door repair and completely shelved inside with no hanging space.  There were curtains hanging off the rails, a small dresser oddly placed away from the window that when moved back we found it was covering a burn in the carpet.  Not that we got chance to use them but as someone else has said the mattresses felt as if they had  seen better days and that was from just sitting on them.  Then there was the advertised flat screen TV's in each room that were more the size of a small computer monitor.
There are doors in each room that lead onto a flat roof that enable anyone to walk round to any of the other rooms, this could surely be a security issue.
So after a very brief stay in the rooms, around 10 minutes, both couples were in agreement that the rooms were not of a standard that we would wish to spend 1 night in let alone the planned 3 nights and we went back to reception and asked to cancel with a full refund stating our reasons why.
I don't know if this was a regular occurance but there was no arguement put forward to try and convince us to stay and a full refund was processed straight away.
We would like to say that although we would not recommend this hotel as a place to sleep we can't comment on any of it's other facilities because we did not stay to find out.
The only plus point from our short time at the Gwesty Carreg Bran Hotel was how polite and helpful Ian at the reception was, it also turned out that the one other car on the car park was his.
Thank you to Ian but the hotel is one that we definitely would not recommend.
Sadly we never stopped to take photos so that others could see the issues we have mentioned

Bedrooms not fit for purpose

Friendly hotel, remarkably quiet, given the location.
I wonder if they focus on weddings?
The meat in a mixed grill was remarkable, as was a steak consumed by partner.
Decor in restaurant was nice. Staff were good.
Very handy for either Anglesey or Snowdonia.
Will definitely use again.

From start to finish our experience here was fantastic! 
Phoned to book a room and spoke to harry who was so friendly and accommodating, on arrival we were greeted by the manager Mei who again was so friendly and couldn’t do enough for us!
Our room was lovely and we enjoyed a 3 course evening meal which was exceptional and great value for money.
Aziz was the bar man for the evening and what can we say….he was hilarious and good fun not to mention makes a great cocktail.
We had breakfast in the morning before we left and once again the food was amazing!
Thank you so much Harry, Mei and Aziz you guys made our night away and we will definitely be back again soon!

Loved it!

Excellent friendly support to plan our wedding , great venue and the food was out of this world for over 100 guests. Staff excellent, happy to accommodate especially Meilir. Wedding room was beautiful and great outside space for guests. 

Best place for a wedding without breaking the budget

Low stars due to sewage spilling out over carpark, smell was awful, should have been blocked off from paying quests and was.very unhygienic 
£6.30.for a pint of pale ale is expensive, food was good and taste, staff were happy and looked after us well

Some issues need sorting

Checked in wrong room ordered a twin he changed us to a double no problem he was very professional polite and give us some information about where we were going the bed was comfy I slept very well, the restaurant was reasonably priced and the food was very very good 5* hotel is clean staff are friendly I definitely recommend

Weird from the outset. The hotel has seen better days. The reception and bar/restaurant areas are quite nice, but as soon as you descend into the rabbit warren of accommodation things deteriorate rapidly. Our room was poorly appointed and lacked modernisation with mould present throughout. The bathroom resembled something that you’d perhaps see in the shadow of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster with dated decor and poor maintenance. In the corridor outside our room there was a pungent smell of sewage and rotting damp, upon further inspection the rooms along from ours had suffered catastrophic damage and were loaded with rubbish. One smelled like death had recently occurred within, or was in the process of occurring.  

The staff we encountered were a nice mix of pleasant, and clinically insane. With the latter providing endless entertainment even though we didn’t really want to be entertained. 

The hotel does boast an enviable location and the staff however weird are accommodating and helpful. But that’s about it. The bottom line is I’d rather camp without a tent.

Weird from the outset

Visited today to celebrate my mother in law's 80 th birthday. Excellent variety and quality of food, plenty of food for even the biggest of appetites. Staff very attentive but not intrusive. Will definitely visit again. Only took one photo of the food but sweet and savory offerings with refils of tea and coffee pots.

Place looks really nice but, on arrival we used the ladies bathroom no toilet roll and there was feaces on the wall in one of the cubicles my friend reported to staff.apros half an hour later she had to ask them again for toilet roll as the hadnt provided again.  In the bar we ordered a spiced rum the barman said theres only a little bit in the bottle tberefore no more rum left for the evening. Food was nice. When ordering more drinks rhey had no rose wine nor white wine , my point is as its the christmas period and always have christmas parties they should stock up on their bar drinks.

Where to start, our new house purchase got delayed at the last minute and we needed a place to stay with our dog for two nights possibly 3. I explained this and was told as long as we informed them in plenty time then we wouldn’t be charged the third night. On the second day I informed them we wouldn’t need the room and was basically told tough there’s a cancellation policy and was forced to pay for the three nights, we stayed two.. at the last minute our options were limited especially with the dog and in first impressions at reception you think hey it’s not bad. You then move deeper into the hotel, oh my God the place is absolutely Filthy the room we had was disgusting, it’s hard to describe but it appears to be a 70s build and hasn’t had a penny spent on the room we were in since, the cleaners would have a job cleaning the rooms, the carpets threadbare the bathroom floorings disgusting and half broke the bath is a joke mould ridden! The toilet is a chemical hazard with obvious stains everywhere. Dust and dirt everywhere it really needs condemning. I tried to get us in a different hotel but at the last minute we were snookered.. we slept on top of the bed, and went to a nearby caravan park to use the showers. We stayed away from the hotel all day until 9pm and then again just slept. I dealt with two receptionist one who also worked behind the bar was arrogant and unhelpful and the one when I checked out was a different Gravy well presented and polite, he even apologised for the state of the rooms admitted they are a disgrace and the whole place will be upgraded soon. I had to book with a CC and then3 nights bill was taken on the first day even though o had a verbal agreement that we may only need two.  I’ve since read some reviews and the positive ones must have been in different rooms to us or have no idea what a hotel should be. We were so tired and mithered with the house move that we put up with it but I wish I had demanded my money back and slept in the car at least it would be clean.. and to put a top hat on it the smell of cannabis being smoked from one of the rooms filled the entire floor we were on!! The place is a disgrace I was definitely ripped off and on checking out I should have been refunded the third night at the very least…
