Very convenient if you travel by car, as you can park nearby for free. Breakfast is fixed by yourself with what is provided (eggs, bread, cereal, milk, tea). 10 min walking distance from the center of Derry.

Excellent option to stay in Derry

Absolutely great value for money. Lovely host who couldn’t have been more welcoming and had really good knowledge of the local area and  Located in a good spot, close to the city. Would definitely recommend.

Lovely place to stay

My sister and I were in Derry for a day, and spent the night at Fairman House.
At first, it seemed weird, because we weren't expected a house, but we found the idea really great.
The owner was very nice with us.
The room was clean and the bed sooooo comfy!
The breakfast was also nice, with eggs, cereals, milk, coffee, bread... the only thing I was disappointed about, is that there was no juices. 
Also, there's only 1 bathroom for all the rooms, as it's a house.. this is understandable, but also to bad..
It was a great night, a great place, but probably a little expensive. Almost 40£ for 2 person.
Anyway, if I'm back to Londerry, I'll probably visit Fairman House again.

Cosy stay at Derry~Londonderry

A friend and I booked the bunk room a day prior to our intended stay and everything was fine. On her online hostel profile/information, the owner/operator, Stella, clearly stated that she was fine with late arrivals as long as we let her know in advance. Given this information, we tried calling multiple times to let her know that, due to traffic, inclement weather, and the fact we were coming from the very south of Ireland in Cork, we wouldn't arrive until around 12:30-1:00am. We called both numbers listed several times and nobody answered. We then emailed her to let her know, at least 10 hours in advance, that we would be late. Someone named Karen (her daughter we later found out) later replied and very kindly said that she let her mother know and it would be "no problem at all." We arrived that night at 12:30am like we had said and as we exited our vehicle we were confronted by Stella who had just gotten there as well. She walked up to our car and asked if my friend and I would be staying at the Fairman house. As soon as we timidly told her yes, she aggresively began to chastise us for our late arrival. She went on and on about how disrespectful and inconsiderate we were for arriving so late. We explained that we had emailed to let them know and were told it would be fine, but she completely ignored everything we said and went on a long tirade about how terrible it was of us to arrive at such an hour. We then led us inside complaining the entire time and gave us a key, showed us our room, and left. My friend and I were utterly baffled that events had played out the way they had. Stella then returned three minutes later demanding to be paid that night, not in euros like she had said online but rather in sterling. We told her we didn't have any sterling and asked if she would allow us to pay her in the morning after we hit up an ATM, she refused and said that if we wanted the room we had to pay her right then. So we then spent twenty minutes trying to find an ATM to get sterlings for her. She was bitter and rude when we returned to give her the money. The next morning, we didn't leave the room for breakfast because we genuinely didn't want to have any contact with her after that point. When we checked out she was standing right there as we left and completely ignored us. Her coldness and overall lack of basic respect was shocking to say the least. Not sure why someone like that is running a hostel. I'm going to try to give her the benefit of the doubt and assume that she was dealing with some recent life tragedy that left her unable to display any amount of warmth or kindness, but I really doubt it. 

I understand that most people don't want to be out so late waiting for arrivals. IF that is the case, write it on your listing!! We do not accept arrivals after XX hours. Plain and simple. And if it actually IS going to be a problem, don't have your daughter write us and tell us that you are fine with it. Even if it was a miscommunication, I don't see how that is my fault in any way. Incredibly cold. Will never stay here again.

Absolutely HORRIFIC -- please read!

A good nicely located hostel, short walking distance from the shops and the city sights. Nice living room and kitchen space. Very much enjoyed the breakfast that's included, eggs, toast and various cereals. Thanks for a great stay! 

*Tip for future guests* bring cash and maybe an extra pillow. 

Good location

The hostel is located on top of a hill, not recommended if you want to walk. When we arrived we waited 20 minutes for the comfort of the owner who was on the phone with her daughter. The structure is old and depressing, the room is nothing special, the common bathrooms were not many. The kitchen is normal but the free breakfast is scandalous. I wouldn't recommend it.

Old and hard to reach

We stayed with my daughter in the last booked room, a nice two-bedroom with a rooftop window with great views of the lake and the city, very clean and tidy with so many beautiful people staying near the city, highly recommended.

I'm going to London.

Very nice little hostel, very clean (perfect bathroom), very comfortable bunk:-) Small enough to feel comfortable in. Breakfast is plenty (milk, coffee, tea, chocolate, jam, cereal, eggs!) From Academy road, follow the signs hostel. Location: very quiet street, in the western heights of the city, but very close to the bogside and walls (15 minutes). The owner gave us all the information we needed to get around the city, plus for the reception that I found very warm!

Very welcome

I'm not used to the hostels and I went there by mistake.... however the room was cozy and clean enough as well as the common bathroom.... little noise at night.... and nice kitchen.... the hostel provides the raw materials for breakfast for free (which you have to cook).... quite good location about 15' walk from the center!!! The owner is nice and available!

Have a good hostel!

After walking two kilometres from Ulsterbus station in the hilly Derry or Londonderry for the most loyalist you finally find on the top of a hill this nice hostel that will not leave you unhappy at the end of the stay. Unfortunately no paper but only cash in this family home re-adapted to hostel by its two owners, a well-rooted, kind and serious couple. The bathrooms are like those in your home as well as the rooms with wooden castle beds. The kitchen faces a courtyard and has everything you need for breakfast and for lunch and dinner. It's nice to make friends with other guests, sitting at the dining room table or on the sofa in front of the TV.
